Mobile phone HTC Wildfire S. HTC Wildfire S - Specifications Mobile phone htc wildfire s

Advantages of the phone:

Today's price - I took it last year for 3990 without any contracts or agreements. The device may be old, but for such quality workmanship it’s an extreme deal!
+ Metal frame at the base, soft touch throughout back cover, nice design (especially the earpiece, it resembles a car radiator grille) and precise fit of materials - I don’t notice any play.
+ I specifically wanted to find one of the smallest Android smartphones with digestible characteristics, and I found it - a 3.2" full-fledged smartphone in my pocket, and because of its swollen shape it fits like a glove in the palm of my hand.
+ Hard 3.5mm audio jack! The device flew out of my hands a couple of times and remained hanging calmly on the headphone cord.
+ HVGA screen (320 x 480) - not stupid QVGA on the most budget droids, the software is drawn as it should; A fairly high-quality matrix for such a price (it inverts from 140-150 degrees, but loses color and brightness at angles). Plus, the screen seems to have a polarizing filter for anti-glare. There is no oleophobia.
+ Sense covers almost all the shortcomings of the old Android, especially the part that is responsible for calls. In addition, Android 2.3.x runs surprisingly smoothly here.
+ 512MB random access memory For such a screen resolution it is more than enough.
+ Fast 3g, especially for such a small phone.
+ The quality of both communication reception and direct transmission of conversations.
+ A good 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash (which can be turned into a flashlight on custom models), but the quality is highly dependent on the lighting.
+ Lasts quite well when used as a dialer and player.
+ Fully charges in just over two hours.
+ In the settings there is an energy saving mode when a critical point is reached, which is convenient.
+ The external speaker is loud enough, but it’s better not to block it with anything.
+ Combined charger (block + Micro-USB).
+ FM radio!
+ Well, a 2GB SD card is included - seeds, but it’s nice for the first time until you buy a new one.

Disadvantages of the phone:

Old Android (2.3.x) - can be updated to Cyanogen 10.1 (4.x), I personally installed Cyanogen from OWL Project (4.2.2): a bunch of additional goodies, standard interface, but still no FM radio and camera Stock pictures are much better - I rolled back to stock.
- An Estonian-made processor with an armv6 instruction set - most toys won’t work at all, but the device likes to think.
- VERY little built-in memory for applications (user-available ~110MB, of which updating Google services will take up to 40MB!; if this memory becomes less than 20MB, then a cunning utility comes out, the only purpose of which is to remove my unfortunate 6 applications from internal memory. How manufacturers used to save on matches!
The problem is solved by creating an ext partition on a memory card to which applications can be transferred (but you need root). On stock rooted firmware I use Link2SD from the market, and before that I need to re-partition the SD into two partitions (fat+ext) through recovery.
- Stupidly processed internal edges of the case (those adjacent to the display glass), which is why dust and small debris can sometimes get clogged there.
- 3.5mm hard socket! None of the plugs went all the way in - tenths of a millimeter remain, which is why sometimes the plug can “go one contact” out of the socket - one channel plays, the other is turned off. But it won’t completely fall out on its own, because the rest of the plug still holds on very tightly.
- The audio path is so-so, you can correct it a little with an equalizer, in particular, PowerAmp.
- Micro-USB on the side of the device.
- God forbid you forget to turn off the connection to the Wi-Fi networks device, you will be frantically looking for a charger in the morning.
- By the way, the charger is short.

Problem solved

Advantages: 1) Workmanship; 2) Small dimensions, fits comfortably in your hands and practically cannot be felt in your pocket; 3) The sensor is very sensitive. But it’s better to immediately cover the screen with film because small grains (sand, dust, blah blah blah) can still scratch it (personal experience) 4) There are no brakes; 5) Android... since June 2011, the phone has never frozen; 6) Reading books is very convenient; 7) WiFi works well; 8) The screen in the sun has auto or max contrast and everything is clearly visible and readable. Behaves very adequately in the sun; 9) Android market - a sea of software. 10) Grouping SMS messages by subscribers and their responses is a small thing, but nice. Reads like correspondence. 11) I was afraid it would be inconvenient to sit on the touch screen in ICQ... I was wrong. Quite normal and convenient. Although with buttons it was still possible to print without looking. p.s. originally it was icq, now it’s qip - I’m happy. 12) And much more :-) It’s better to take it and see for yourself than to read dozens of reviews. After all, how many people - so many opinions;-) Disadvantages: 1) Battery... like all smartphones of this generation... With active use, calls / ICQ / skype / book / music (rarely, because there is an mp3 player) eat up the battery tough and merciless... barely enough for a day:(2) gps navigator It kills the battery, no matter how sad it is: - (I always recharge in the morning after a run. 3) The volume is not very good. n73 was much louder. When I'm cooking in the kitchen, I turn on the phone as a player through a speaker, because it's very quiet. Comment: The phone was bought to replace the good old, but outdated Nokia n73. The difference between these two devices is big, in favor of HTC. I chose between Ace / Optimus One / HTC WildFire. I liked htc more in terms of size / 7 desktops (now I actively use only 6) / there is no sharpening like the Samsung for Apple / I was also pleased with Bluetooth 3.0 / I don’t remember how it is with other devices, but on htc the screen is covered by glass. When purchasing, I saw wildfire s... looked at the parameters, the resolution is higher than that of its predecessor, there is no optical trackball, which reduces its dimensions... etc. Doubts disappeared. After all, it looks more solid due to the quality of the materials. I use the phone as a phone / ICQ / e-reader / Skype / link to gmail... very convenient for checking sweat) / flashlight / photos are pretty bad Bad quality although it is not a camera phone / rss newsletters / RunKeeper (traffic route, average and maximum speed, elevation changes, etc. are tracked by GPS, followed by overlay on the map) / notes. IMHO: the device is the best in its price range. p.s. Desire S held in his hand... Bigger screen- a small thing, but nice. But carrying it around with you all the time if you don’t have a bag/satchel in your pocket is not very convenient. p.s.s. I decided to add after using it for more than half a year: the phone fell 5 times... my heart skipped a beat, but, ugh ugh ugh, the phone is safe and sound, and continues to work successfully :-) the headphones are still alive and working... but in parallel I use Koss with them Porta Pro, the sound is just super (as an advertisement :)) and the Plantronics Explorer 210 headset (it would be better not to take it). The flash drive costs 8 gb 10 class, which is quite enough. List of my software: Antivirus Free, ColorNote - notes, Cool Reader- reader, Dolphin Browser, ES manager and explorer, Google Reader, Google documents, Google+, Google translate, miCoach program from adidas that tracks workouts and gives running recommendations, QIP, QQPlayer, RunKeeper - http://runkeeper.com/, Skype, Android Assistant, Adobe Reader, Flashlight.

General characteristics

Type

Deciding on the type of device (phone or smartphone?) is quite simple. If you need a simple and inexpensive device for calls and SMS, it is recommended to select the phone. A smartphone is more expensive, but it offers a wide variety of options: games, videos, the Internet, thousands of programs for all occasions. However, its battery life is significantly less than that of a regular phone.

Memory and processor

CPU

Modern phones and smartphones usually use special processors - SoC (System on Chip, system on a chip), which, in addition to the processor itself, houses the graphics core, memory controller, input/output device controller, etc. Therefore, the processor largely determines the set of functions and device performance.

This article will describe in detail the strengths and weaknesses of the 2011 mid-range smartphone HTC WILDFIRE S. Features, technical specifications and user reviews will all be provided in this review.

What's included in the package?

The scope of delivery for this device is standard. Something entry level 2011 certainly can't boast. In addition to the device itself, it includes the following accessories:

  • Rechargeable battery for HTC WILDFIRE S. Its characteristics are as follows: nominal capacity 1230 mAh, which in most cases is enough for an average of 2-3 days of active use.
  • Charger with USB output for connecting a cord.
  • Adapter cable of MicroUSB/USB format.
  • Also included is an external acoustic system entry level.

Documentation includes a user manual and a warranty card. All this costs today only 41 dollars - more than a reasonable price for such a good device.

Design and usability

The front panel of this smart smartphone made of 1st generation glass. It is resistant to scratches, but it is not recommended to specifically test it for strength. The front panel is framed with aluminum along the entire perimeter. This gives rigidity to the body, but at the same time it remains quite light. The back cover is made of corrugated plastic. It is not difficult to scratch it, and because of this, the owner of this gadget will find it difficult to do without a case. Immediately below the screen there are 4 touch buttons: “Menu”, “Back”, “Home” and “Search”. They are not located entirely well: when performing manipulations at the bottom of the screen, you can accidentally press them. The right edge of the device is completely free of control and switching elements. The volume rocker and MicroUSB port are located on the right, and the power button and 3.5 mm audio jack are hidden on top. Only the speaking microphone is located at the bottom.

CPU

Very “weak” installed CPU in HTC WILDFIRE S. Its characteristics are not impressive. Only one core (ARM11 architecture) with a clock frequency of 0.6 GHz. Of course, at the time the device was released it was one of best offers On the market. But now he is both morally and physically outdated. This is confirmed by a test in the most popular utility for this platform, AnTuTu. It indicates a very low level of CPU performance. The processor resources are enough for simple entry-level toys (balls, for example), browsing web portals, reading books and listening to music. But there may be problems with the video. Rollers in high quality frames will be viewed. The exception is files with the extension AVI and 3GP. They should go without problems. As a result, it can be noted that for most tasks the computing capabilities of this smart phone will be quite sufficient.

Graphics and display

The situation is similar with the graphics subsystem. At the time the smartphone was released, it provided a good level of performance. But now it is already outdated. It is based on the Adreno 200 chip. The screen has a diagonal of 3.2 inches and its resolution is 320 by 480. The basis of the display is a matrix made using the most popular LED technology at that time. It is capable of displaying about 16 million colors and has quite good viewing angles. The display surface can only handle 2 touches at a time.

Camera

The HTC WILDFIRE S has a good camera for its time. Specifications, reviews and the pictures themselves indicate this. Even now, entry-level devices are equipped with 2 megapixel matrices (for example, LENOVO A318), while this smartphone uses 5 megapixels. At the same time, there is an automatic image stabilization system, autofocus and backlight (it can also be used as a flashlight).

Memory

The characteristics of the HTC WILDFIRE S phone are modest in terms of memory. Only 512 MB of RAM and built-in memory. This is very little today. Moreover, part of the built-in storage is occupied by the operating system. Can be installed external storage with a capacity of 32 GB of the TransFlash format and this will solve the problem with the lack of integrated memory. But with RAM it is no longer possible to solve the problem.

Autonomy

The situation with the battery of the HTC WILDFIRE S is ambiguous. At first glance, its characteristics are not impressive. Only 1230 mAh is not enough for modern smartphones. But on the other hand, you need to take into account the technical parameters of this device. Its display diagonal is only 3.2 inches and has a 1-core process. As a result, we get 2-3 days battery life under mediocre load. If desired, this figure can be increased by 2 times - up to 4-5 days, if you disable various options (for example, auto-rotate screen, display brightness and all unused applications). So from the standpoint of autonomy, this is an excellent device.

OS

Of course, expect one of latest versions"Android" which has serial number 4.4, on this device it is not necessary. It is installed on the current flagship of this manufacturer- HTC ONE. The characteristics and reviews of the owners of this gadget indicate an outdated modification 2.3.3. Of course, most software is still compatible with it, but problems may arise in the foreseeable future. A definite bonus in this case is the proprietary “SENSE” add-on from HTC. Otherwise, this is a standard Android with the usual set standard utilities and programs from Google.

Interface support

HTC WILDFIRE S is still relevant in terms of supported interfaces. This list includes the following:

  • The main wireless interface is Wi-Fi. With its help, you can download any amount of information to this smartphone. This will take a minimum of time.
  • Wireless mobile networks of the 2nd and, of course, 3rd generation. In the first case you can get maximum speed up to 560 kbit/s, but in the second - up to 7.2 Mbit/s. In 2nd generation mobile networks you can download simple Internet resources and communicate via in social networks. But “3Zh” does not limit the owners of this gadget in almost anything, and you can download any amount of information onto this device. Also using these mobile networks You can make regular calls.
  • Another important interface is Bluetooth. It allows a small amount of data to be transferred to similar devices. Its maximum range of action is 10 meters.
  • Also on this device is a full-fledged “ZhPS” transmitter. It allows you to turn this smartphone into a full-fledged navigator. The only disadvantage of this solution is the small screen diagonal. But if you need to go urgently, and there is no alternative, then you can get by with them.
  • One of key functions This device has a MicroUSB port. Connects to it Charger using an adapter cord. Another option for its use is data exchange with a computer.
  • The last wired interface is the 3.5mm jack. Its main purpose is to output sound to external acoustics. The gadget may well serve as a full-fledged MP3 player.
