The Internet is an integral part of the life of a modern person. We go to work - we look at the phone, in the office we sit at the computer, and even at home with a glass of beer we watch TV - more and more often also via the Internet, and not the central antenna. But we’ll talk about TV and strong drinks another time, and today I would like to focus on mobility - how to connect the Internet via a phone, because almost no one can live without it today. In fact, connecting a modern phone, smartphone or tablet to the Internet is not that difficult. There are even several methods, which we have already discussed in some articles, and today we will put them all together so that a complete picture emerges.

How to connect mobile Internet to your phone?

The easiest and most affordable way to connect the Internet to a mobile phone is the so-called “mobile Internet” service, which is provided by absolutely all mobile operators. In all modern tariffs, it is already tied to the number by default, but it is worth considering that for accessing the Internet the subscriber is charged an additional fee - each operator has its own.

It should be noted that in recent years, all leading operators have tariffs with an included package of mobile Internet traffic volume, which is very convenient and profitable. For example, I use Tele2, which has a cool option - exchanging minutes for gigabytes, aimed specifically at those who speak little but access the Internet a lot via phone - I wrote a separate article about it, read it!

To activate mobile Internet you will have to do a few simple steps on your phone. On a standard “naked” Android, you need to go to the “Settings > Additional settings > Mobile networks” section and activate the “Mobile data” mode.

Since I am currently using a Xiaomi smartphone that runs on the proprietary MIUI shell, I can show you how to turn on the Internet on Xiaomi. You need to go to “Settings” and open the “SIM cards and mobile networks” section, where you activate the “Mobile Internet” toggle switch.

By the way, there is also a traffic setting - if you know that the free Internet limit is limited, then by entering the value of the volume provided to you according to the terms of the tariff, the phone will track its overuse and report about it using notifications.

In order to disable mobile Internet, accordingly, you need to turn off the “Mobile data” mode.

What to do if the Internet on your phone does not work?

There may be several reasons why the Internet does not work on your phone. Most often, for some reason, Megafon subscribers ask about this, but this also happens with Beeline, MTS and Tele2. I would recommend checking your mobile hotspot settings. There is a situation where the settings of cellular operators go wrong - for example, if you bought your device overseas and it has default configurations for another provider, or you often change SIM cards and the phone does not have time to adapt to them.

To correct the error, you will have to manually enter the parameters to correctly connect your phone to the Internet. This is done in the same section “Settings - SIM cards and mobile networks”, where you need to click on the name of the SIM card of your phone

On this page, you can change the settings for connecting your phone to the Internet one by one.

Below is the data to be entered for each mobile operator:

Internet settings for MTS:

  • APN: internet.mts.ru
  • Login: mts
  • Password: mts

For Megafon:

  • APN: internet
  • Login: gdata
  • Password: gdata

For Beeline:

  • APN: internet.beeline.ru
  • Login: beeline
  • Password: beeline

Internet on your phone via WiFi

Another simple way to access the Internet from a smartphone is perfect if you are at home, in the subway or in a cafe - this is WiFi. There are two options here to configure the wireless signal distribution.

  1. If you have already read articles on this blog, then you probably know how your phone connects to the Internet via a wifi router. No? Then it will help you - scroll it all the way to the subsection about accessing the network from a mobile phone.
  2. The second one is also not quite complicated. If you do not have a router, then we can use a personal computer or laptop as an access point. In order to do this, read about how to share a computer connection and allow other devices to access it.

When we talk about these two methods, we mean connecting your phone to the Internet via Wi-Fi. To enable it on an Android phone with versions above 4.0, just go to “Settings” and move the slider to the active state.

After this, you will see a list of networks available for connection. You will choose either a network with a password you know, or a public network that is open to access.

The same thing happens with the iPhone - the “Settings” section, the Wi-Fi slider to the active position.

Internet connection via Bluetooth

Finally, the last option for connecting the Internet to your phone is via Bluetooth, connecting it and a computer that has the Internet. The method is a little specific, since you will need additional software, a lot of settings and super-user rights (root access) on your mobile phone - it’s easier to do this using one of the above. However, for those interested, it will be discussed in a separate post. Wait!

Since I am not an owner or fan of Apple products, I will only talk about working with a smartphone based on . You will need to take a few simple steps.

Phone setup

On your smartphone, go to Settings (parameters) and look for the “Networks” item, then look for the “Shared modem” or simply “Modem” item there. Naturally, we choose it.

On other phones this feature may be slightly hidden. Try looking in the network settings for the item "Wireless network"(and most likely you will need to click the “More” button) and there you will find the “WI-FI router” or “Modem” item. In any case, this function is somewhere here.

Note! There are also 2 more points here. The USB modem is not yet active because there is no connection. But if you connect your phone via a USB cable, the setting will become active and thus you will be able to use the Internet on your laptop.

Well, Bluetooth, as you already understood, is needed to connect to a device via Bluetooth. But I don't like this method at all.

Next, you need to indicate what your WI-FI network will be called. You can leave it as it is, but if you want, change it to make it more convenient for you. After that, we come up with a password so that the neighbors do not dare to connect to us, and, in principle, you don’t need anything else. Click “Save”.

And of course, the most important thing is that you must have mobile Internet enabled on your smartphone, otherwise all our manipulations are meaningless. If Wi-Fi is activated on your smartphone, it will automatically turn off, because the power comes from the 3G or 4G mobile network.

Setting up a computer or laptop

Well, now the matter remains small. We need to find a wireless Internet connection on a computer, so we will need a laptop or a computer that supports Wi-Fi.

Now in the lower right corner (in the tray) we look for the wireless connection icon, click on it and from the proposed list select the very network that we created on our phone. Next, enter the security key (the password you created) and use the Internet.

This action has helped me out more than once, thanks to our unpredictable provider. Sometimes you urgently need the Internet, but for some reason it is not there. It’s not very convenient to use this on a smartphone, so you have to manage to steal traffic from your phone in favor of surfing the Internet at your computer.

Yes, and don’t forget about traffic. Spending time on such an Internet eats up your traffic very well, so I recommend that you use this function when you really need it, and to watch videos on YouTube, such as the top 10 accidents.

Well, this is where I’ll probably end my article today. I hope that it was useful to you and you will not forget to subscribe to my blog updates. Good luck to you. Bye bye!

Best regards, Dmitry Kostin.

Mobile Internet is still a fairly expensive and slow way to connect to the World Wide Web. Therefore, using it as the main Internet connection for a desktop computer is quite inconvenient.

However, there are times when there is simply no other option. For example, during a vacation trip or a breakdown of the main Internet provider. In such cases, you have to resort to using the mobile Internet. In this material we will talk about how to connect a computer to the Internet via a mobile phone.

The easiest way to connect your computer to the Internet via a mobile phone is to use the Hotspot function. Most modern smartphones have this feature.

After enabling the “Access Point” function, your mobile phone will begin to work like, creating a Wi-Fi network with access to the Internet. In order for the Internet to work on your computer via your mobile phone, you just need to connect to this Wi-Fi network.

It should be noted that using the “Access Point” function has a number of disadvantages:

  • Not every mobile phone supports this function. As a rule, only advanced smartphones provide this opportunity.
  • Using the Hotspot function drains your mobile phone battery faster.
  • Using the “Access Point” function leads to increased consumption of Internet traffic.
  • To connect to an access point, a Wi-Fi module must be installed on your computer.

Mobile phone as a modem

The second way to connect a computer to the Internet via a mobile phone is to use the mobile phone as a modem. Unlike “Access Point”, this method works with most modern mobile phones.

Since this method of connecting to the mobile Internet is quite complex, we will look at it step by step.

Step No. 1. Connect the mobile phone to the computer.

Connect your mobile phone to your computer using a cable or . After connecting, install a program to synchronize your mobile phone with your computer. This could be the Nokia Suite program if you have a Nokia phone, or the Samsung Kies program if you have a Samsung phone. If your phone came with a driver disc, install them too.

After connecting and installing all the necessary programs, your mobile phone modem should appear in Device Manager.

Step #2: Create a new Internet connection.

Once you have connected your mobile phone to your computer, you can begin creating a new Internet connection. To do this, open Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center.

In the “Network and Sharing Center” window, click on the “Set up a new network connection” link.

After this, the “Set up a network connection” window will open in front of you. Here you need to select “Set up a telephone connection” and click on the “Next” button.

In the next window you must specify the number to dial, username and password. This data will be used by the modem to connect to the Internet. To find out your dialing number, login and password, contact your mobile provider.

After entering all the data, click on the “Connect” button. If you did everything correctly, your computer should connect to the Internet.
