And if you are new to freelancing, learn how to create a portfolio for yourself.

Good afternoon, dear readers! All copywriters have two headaches: lack of orders and low prices. Today I want to offer you a solution to these problems.

Some authors receive 2,000 - 4,000 rubles for half a page of text, others have difficulty writing 1,000 characters for 20 - 40 rubles. Just luck? No. The copywriter simply skillfully sold his services, and this couldn’t be done without a portfolio.

You can work on text exchanges without a dossier of finished works. But you will soon burn out and become disillusioned with freelancing, if this has not already happened.

The exchange is good as a simulator when you have not yet honed your writing skills. Have you written 10–15 articles? It's time to set out on a free voyage in search of clients. Is it hard and scary? Don't be afraid, your copywriter's portfolio will help you. And how to prepare it, design it, place it - I will teach you right now.

What is a copywriter's portfolio?

A copywriter’s portfolio is examples of finished texts that show the customer the level of skill. They are provided in the form:

  • text document (doc, txt),
  • (png),
  • presentations
  • publication links on the site,
  • e-book (pdf).

What your portfolio shows the customer:

  • Literacy Rate,
  • author’s style – whether it’s written boringly or excitingly,
  • understanding of the topic,
  • ingenuity,
  • ability to work with technical specifications.

The client pays attention to those articles in the portfolio that he wants to order.

9 tips to help you create the perfect portfolio

  1. Add texts on topics you want and can work with.
  2. Don't post the same type of articles.
  3. Don't overload your portfolio. 7–12 works are enough for the customer to evaluate your level. For each topic no more than 2 texts.
  4. Compose a description of 2–3 sentences for each text.
  5. Before publication.
  6. Sort your works by time of creation, type of text (press release, review, landing page, news), topics.
  7. Publish your work as images from websites. A simple Word document will not impress anyone. Yes, and formatting in another version of the program is spoiled.
  8. Update your portfolio regularly. It should develop with you. Get rid of old texts.
  9. For your portfolio, choose not only the best texts, but also mediocre ones. So that the client does not expect the impossible from you.

What to write in the description of the text:

  1. Target. For example, a client wants to increase sales by 20% or increase the number of subscribers.
  2. Was it possible to achieve results?

Not enough time? Spend 20-30 minutes daily on your portfolio. This is a profitable investment in the future.

How to prepare an article for publication?

Don’t rush to add the first work you come across to your portfolio. It needs to be brought to perfection.

How to format an article correctly:

  1. Take a closer look at the title. Does it reflect the content of the text, is it catchy, does it answer the user’s question?
  2. Rate the introduction. If you come from afar, use cliche phrases like “as of today,” etc., it’s a failure. Urgently remove unnecessary sentences and verbal garbage. Take the editor-in-chief as your assistant.
  3. Transform your look. Font size and color, design of lists and quotes should be in the same style. Stick to a low-key design.
  4. Structure the material. No one will want to read a continuous canvas of text. Divide large paragraphs into small ones, consisting of 4 - 5 lines, insert lists, tables, quotes, images.
  5. Reread the material out loud. Correct the moments where you openly stumble while reading. Laconism is the key to success.
  6. Create a source file for your portfolio in the form of a screenshot or pdf.

Your work is ready for publication.

Where to get articles from if you are a beginner?

Beginner copywriters, collect your portfolio right away. Where can I get texts for work dossiers? All beginners have 2 options.

Option 1. Register on the text exchange. Complete cheap orders that will end up in your portfolio.

  • TK drives you into a framework,
  • It’s not always possible to find an order for your favorite topic,
  • little time for editing and proofreading.
  • learn to write texts based on real technical specifications,
  • earn little money
  • get used to working in a team,
  • meet interesting people,
  • accumulate positive reviews.

Option 2. Write specifically for your portfolio on your favorite topics at your own pace.

  • they don't pay for it
  • You have to look for interesting topics on your own.
  • inspiration,
  • no one pushes deadlines,
  • write about anything
  • read and edit the article as needed.

Do you want to gain experience and collect articles, but the prices on text exchanges are scary? Connect to our. Real practice and earnings await you. Be better than 99% of copywriters.

You can combine your resume and portfolio in your presentation. I have prepared a sample for you, tested from personal experience.

We write our specialty, name or nickname.

A story about myself. It is trite to say: “I am Vasya Ryzhov” - I do not recommend it. We'll tell you how we got into copywriting and what topics we worked with. We anticipate and answer questions that the client may have. Add your photo.

Why choose you? We write about the benefits that the client will receive from working with you. This could be a 28% increase in conversion, experience, speed, etc.

Portfolio. It is difficult to insert an image of an entire article into a slide. It is better to provide links to your personal website, blog or social network account where screenshots of texts are posted.

Another page can be devoted to prices. Specifying prices immediately or discussing them personally with the customer is a controversial issue. Some marketers advise gradually preparing the client, while others advise creating a price list for services immediately.

The call to action must be specific. The client should not have to re-watch the presentation for the hundredth time to find out how to contact you. Include everything from phone number to email.

How to deliver a presentation to your target audience:

  1. Convert to video and post on social networks.
  2. Upload to Google Drive or immediately create a portfolio in Google Slides, setting up access to it via a link.
  3. Convert to flash format using the iSpring Free program.
  4. Send the source file personally.

How to take a scrolling screenshot of an article for your portfolio?

Not all programs can take a snapshot of an entire web page. What should you do if you have an informational article on your page with pictures for 10,000 characters? Download the Awesome Screenshot browser extension.

Open the desired page. Click on the plugin icon next to the URL.

Select “Capture entire page”. Automatic scrolling begins. After it, the editing menu opens in another browser tab.

To make the screenshot of the article look neat, I select the “Crop” tool and cut off the excess.

I complete editing by clicking “Done”.

The image is now on your PC and ready to be shared.

Where should I post my portfolio?

The articles have been edited, screenshots have been taken, all that remains is to choose a place to place your creations.

Own website

The site is your territory, where you design your portfolio as you wish. Copywriting gurus like Denis Kaplunov have it, why are you worse? You can easily add not only text but also video reviews.

Create a website on platforms: WordPress, Joomla.

Advantages:

  • solidity;
  • your content will not be lost;
  • maximum control over the design and promotion of the site.

Disadvantage: costs for hosting, domain, webmaster, if you don’t want to master the engine yourself.

Start a blog on LiveJournal, Blogger, Yandex Zen, Google Sites, if you can’t pay for website maintenance.

Advantages:

  • pay only for a paid subscription;
  • You deftly handle setup, management, and filling.

Flaws:

  • intrusive advertising without a paid subscription,
  • content may disappear along with the blog,
  • long domain,
  • few tools and templates for customization.

The golden mean is to use a website builder: WIX, uCoz, Ucraft.

Advantages:

  • no need to learn layout and coding;
  • You can actually make a good website in 40 minutes.

Flaws:

  • a lot of advertisements and no personal domain for free accounts;
  • limited functionality.

I advise you to spend money, but create a business card website yourself without designers and blogging platforms.

Social network

In addition to the website, be sure to upload your portfolio on social networks: VKontakte, Instagram, Google+, Facebook.

Why do this:

  • potential customers will be added to your friends list;
  • quick search by hashtags and tags;
  • indexing in search engines;
  • Conveniently communicate with the client and show previous work.

Flaws:

  • small screenshot preview;
  • deletion, account blocking = loss of portfolio.

Create a group or separate work account. This way you won’t confuse the personal and the professional.

An example of correct design. The specialization is indicated, a link to the community and website is added.

Make thematic reposts, share your own discoveries in the world of copywriting. Don’t litter your wall with vanilla quotes, cats, or movies.

Google Drive

You need to create a Google account. To open online storage, click on the square next to your avatar in any Google service.

In the open window, select “Disk”.

If you actively use Google services, you will see all the tables, documents, pictures you worked with.

Before uploading screenshots, pdf files and writing texts in Google Docs, create a “My Portfolio” folder by clicking on the button on the left.

Enter the title.

Ready. Drag any file there. And the customer will be comfortable, and you will give the impression of a neat, organized person.

Advantage: all files in one folder.

Flaws:

  • the customer will not find the portfolio himself,
  • Due to a server failure, you can lose data.

How to format text in Google Docs for a portfolio, see this video.

Freelance and article exchanges

– a great chance to show yourself and earn money. The sites already have pages with a special upload form. All that remains is to correct the work. Requirements for files and design vary among sites.

eTXT has created a personal section where you can send a text directly after completing an order or qualifying task. It's a shame I couldn't attach a picture. But the article is beautifully displayed in a new window.

Advego has complicated the task; to show your abilities, you need to create a separate topic on the forum. The administration recommends adding screenshots or links to published works.

Text.ru did not provide the ability to add a portfolio. The most you can do is add a link in the “About” section.

Allows you to create an interactive, diverse portfolio with pictures, descriptions, doc and pdf files. Disadvantage: the project preview option is only available for PRO accounts.

It is profitable to post your portfolio on such sites. There are many potential clients here.

Special sites

ShkolaZhizni.ru will take you from the status of a mediocre author to the rank of a professional. The requirements are high, so if you have ever published here, you can safely brag to your clients.

Kakprosto.ru – place at least 3-5 articles here and there will be no end to orders. A well-promoted platform with strict requirements will show your skill level at its best.

Portfoliopen.com opens 1,000 and 1 freelance opportunities. Texts can be posted with pictures, formatted as you like, and previews can be added. Copywriters here also write blogs and communicate with foreign colleagues. If you want to create something of your own, connect a domain and use your own logo.

Never Make These Mistakes

It’s easy to ruin a reputation, but restoring it is a real challenge.

Here are the mistakes that will harm your career:

  1. Publication of works in doc and txt formats. They are well indexed by search engines. The customer may have a problem with the uniqueness of the content. Lack of trust and negative feedback are guaranteed.
  2. No proofreading. The article is replete with spelling and stylistic errors, and sometimes the endings of words are inconsistent.
  3. Adding other people's work. Don't steal from others. The secret will become clear, because you will not be able to write an article in the same style.

Avoid these moments in your portfolio and you will succeed.

Conclusion

A portfolio for a copywriter is a ticket to expensive orders and professional growth. Everyone listens and trusts freelancers who have something to show. Study, write, update your work dossier and clients will come to you.

Do you already have ready-made articles for your portfolio? Write comments.

See you soon!

Initially, I wanted to describe in one article all the popular and not too labor-intensive ways of creating and posting a copywriter’s portfolio, but there was too much material. As a result, we got two full guides. In this article, read how to make a portfolio for a beginner and not-so-copywriter on a freelance site, the Clippings.me platform, Google Docs and the WordPress site. Follow this link to read how to create a portfolio in the form of your own page on the Internet using the example of Tilda and Google website builders.

Copywriter portfolio on fl.ru

The fl.ru platform is a job search service for freelancers. If you pay for a pro account, you will get several “goodies” - the ability to respond to all projects, add more information to your profile data, etc. To post a portfolio, the copywriter does not have to pay for this functionality. Works can be added for free.

The registration process on the site is standard, I will not dwell on it. Let's move on to filling out your profile right away.

Fill out the basic information on the page - enter your first name, last name, come up with a title for your account, add a photo. This can be done on your profile page in the “Basic Settings” section.

In the “Information” block, indicate how to contact you.

After completing the preliminary account setup, we move on to adding work to your copywriter portfolio. To do this, click on the appropriate menu item on the left and fill out the field “Clarification on copywriter services in the portfolio.” Here you can indicate the specifics of cooperation with you, advertise yourself again, indicate something important that directly relates to your work.

After clicking on the “Edit” button, click on the “Add work” button, then select a section to display your works. After these steps, the system will create a section where your examples of texts for websites, online stores, landing pages, commercial offers, etc. will be located.

Edit the section to your liking - write a comment, clarification, price for texts, indicate keywords and the cost of an hour of work if necessary.

Now click the “Add work” button and upload examples of copywriter texts into the appropriate form.

You can select several sections, for example, “Copywriting”, “Articles”, “Texts/Speeches/Reports”. In this case, you will have several sections for example texts in your copywriter portfolio. In this way, it is convenient to divide works by topic or purpose of texts.

This is what I got after adding three types of texts to my portfolio (texts for landing pages, commercial offers and Forex copywriting) on the fl.ru site.

When you click on the title of a text in a copywriter’s portfolio on a freelance site, the work opens in full screen.

On the platform for freelancers you can create a dimensionless portfolio. However, remember, when you send a potential customer a link to your account with examples of texts, there is no guarantee that he will stop there and will not go to look at the work of other artists on the same site.

How to make a copywriter portfolio on the Clippings.me platform

The online service Clippings.me was originally created for journalists, but the platform’s functionality is quite suitable for creating and publishing a copywriter’s portfolio. You can post up to 10 works within the free version. If that's not enough, $9.99 per month will add unlimited texts. You can create several accounts for free and divide your portfolio according to the types of texts you work with. For example, create a separate account with examples of texts for landing pages, another with information articles for medical sites, etc.

The service is simple, suitable for beginners, but the portfolios in it are template-based. If you just need a place on the Internet where you can collect examples of your texts on one site and, if necessary, show them to the customer upon request, the site will cope with this purpose.

Go to the main page of the site and click on the button in the upper right corner of Create Portfolio.

After this, a simple form will appear. Fill out the fields with a short portfolio address, name, email and click the button below that says Sign Up.

The portfolio creation process consists of three steps. Select the image image for the first screen in the first step. There is no need to rush. You can select a picture for the first screen at any time or upload something from your own archive.

At the second stage, you will be asked to fill out basic profile information, namely, indicate a title, a few lines of biography, and select a country.

In the third step, you will be asked to join the service's Facebook group. This is not necessary; you can skip this step.

After completing the initial setup, you will be taken to your future portfolio page. The top line consists of six menu items. Let's look at them in more detail.

Using the Add Web Link button you will add links to example texts in your portfolio. The picture and announcement are loaded automatically. You can upload a link to a video, a PDF file, or a separator between texts. For example, you added three SEO texts and want to separate them from the others with a horizontal line. Click on the Add Portfolio Divider button and enter the dividing text. How this looks in practice, see the picture below.

Using the Move Clippings button, you can move portfolio blocks in places - change the order of links and the placement of the separator between texts. To do this, you need to hold down the Move button and drag the object where you want with the mouse.

The Customize Profile menu item consists of several tabs. In the Biography & Links tab, you can change the page title, name, biography, add links to your website and page on social networks. In the Header Style tab, you can select an image or upload your own, change the color of the text on the first screen.

In the Portfolio Style tab, you can change the color of the announcement text in links and prohibit or allow showing previews for the text.

After filling out all the fields, this is the page I ended up with.

Google Drive folder

The simplest and most common way to organize a portfolio for novice copywriters is to create a folder with examples of work in the cloud (most often on Google Drive) and open access via a link. If you don’t lump all the texts into one pile, but create a competent structure and clear captions for the files, such a portfolio has a right to life.

To access Google Drive, go through a simple registration on gmail.com and get an account common to all Google services. You can get inside the disk directly from mail, as shown in the figure below.

Now that you're in Google Drive, it's time to create a portfolio. To do this, click on the “Create” button in the upper left corner and select the “Folder” list item, give it a name and save. Then go inside the folder and create subfolders in it for categories of texts - informational articles, SEO texts, texts for landing pages, commercial offers.

Inside each folder, create a Google Doc using the same menu and copy the sample texts for your copywriting portfolio there. Give them a rundown - add a clear title so that the reader immediately understands what the text in the document is about, break it into paragraphs, make subheadings and lists if necessary.

When the portfolio is ready, open access via the link that you will send to the potential customer upon request. Call the context menu with the right mouse button and select “Enable access via link”. Copy the link and send it to customers if necessary.

The disadvantage of a portfolio that is designed as a folder in Google Docs is that it is visually unattractive. Advantages - creating a portfolio for a copywriter in Google Dox is quick and easy.

What not to do:

  • Create a sheet in Google Docs and place on it a list of links to your work on the Internet without explanation or title. You can send links directly to the customer in the body of the email.
  • Do not sign or sign unclearly your examples of texts for the site. Indicate the article type and topic in the title. If the link contains text for a landing page for selling lawyer services, write about it.
  • Mix different types of texts in one folder and send a link to everything indiscriminately. For example, if you are negotiating with a client about writing a commercial proposal, do not send him a folder with your SEO texts.

For an example of a competent folder structure with a copywriter’s portfolio on Google Drive, see below.

Copywriter website on an independent WordPress platform

This article will not provide complete instructions for creating a copywriter website on the WordPress platform. Much has already been written about this. I'll tell you why this method is good for posting a portfolio, and I'll write where to look for information to create your blog.

What are the advantages of a copywriter website on an independent WordPress platform:

  • As the popularity of the resource grows, clients find you on their own. Information on the site is indexed by search engines, and it is promoted in searches. Visitors come to your site with a formed need for your services.
  • A portfolio on a copywriter’s personal website looks much more attractive and respectable than on a freelancing site or other third-party service. Customers perceive you as a serious performer, not a random author.
  • You have no competitors. On freelancing sites and copywriting exchanges, your portfolio is located next to hundreds of the same ones. You give the client the opportunity to compare you with other copywriters.

There are many free instructions for creating a website on the Internet. I personally recommend Ntschool marathons. YouTube has a ton of free stuff from guys. The Texterra agency blog has a detailed guide to creating a website yourself.

Hello, friends! Did you know that you can create a portfolio online? It turns out that there have been many special services for this for a long time. When talking about services, for some reason I always think about . 🙂 Who needs these sites to create a portfolio? Many times I have met top-class specialists in their field, these are programmers and web designers, and you know what, they didn’t even have their own website! It would seem that they simply have to have it. Some of them explained this by the fact that they had no time to work on the site, others said that they simply did not need it, limiting themselves to a profile on freelance sites.

However, I believe that if a person offers any services on the Internet, then he should have his own website or created a portfolio page on a special service. Agree that having your own page on the Internet, you can attract visitors to it and thus look for clients. Let's look at the 10 most popular sites for creating an online portfolio.

Creating a portfolio is a mandatory process for every designer, illustrator or photographer who wants to make a name for themselves and reach the next level.

It is very important to post your works on resources where everyone, including your future customer, can view them without much difficulty.

Today we would like to present to your attention a selection of sites where you can post your portfolio and upload your work.

Don’t get carried away with design and “creative” presentation. A smart customer will understand that this is just tinsel used to cover up the lack of meaning. Show your work neatly, clearly and simply. Post the story, not the pictures. Tell us what the client’s problem is and how you solved it, explain your solutions in the presentation. Focus on important details.

Don’t get carried away with designer social networks, there is a risk of catching a dribbler or developing chronic appreciitis. A designer affected by these diseases begins to work to collect as many positive reviews as possible from other designers. A persistent indifference to the client’s task is formed. Trends become more important than meaning.

Carbonmade

The resource provides the user with two placement options - free and paid. The free option includes a limited number of works - only 5 projects and 35 images. Paid - $12 per month and many additional features.

cmdspace

A new service that turns your Dribble profile into a separate website. Fast and convenient.

Portfoliobox

Free with restrictions, 240 rubles per month. Portfolio orientation. Nice templates.

Brushd

Free with restrictions, 12 bucks per month. Portfolio orientation. Nice templates.

Folio24

Free with restrictions, from 6 bucks per month. Portfolio orientation. Nice templates.

Revision

Perhaps the most famous Russian community. No possibility for customization and outdated design, but there is a chance to get quality feedback.

Coroflot

A simple and convenient interface will allow you to upload your works, as well as view the works of other authors without any effort.

Bleidu

Platform for artists, photographers, illustrators, designers. All you need to do is register and upload your work.

Viewbook

A platform for creating minimalistic portfolios. Services are paid, but prices are reasonable. For $4 per month you can download an unlimited number of works. For a few more dollars you can get additional settings.

FL.ru

The largest and most popular site for freelancers. It is focused on finding a job, and the portfolio is one of the functions of the site. To demonstrate it more or less normally, you will have to buy a professional account (790 rubles per month). The advantage is that immediately after posting your portfolio you can go look for a job. But you need to keep in mind that both specialists and employers here are quite specific. You will have to compete with a lot of loud, unprofessional people. Moreover, the site has been seen to repeatedly change its policy towards users, sometimes causing mass protests. In general, I recommend not using this site as your main portfolio hosting, only as a backup.

Brainstorage

This is one of the projects of the Thematic Media company, which founded Habrahabr. Focused on posting works and reviews from IT specialists (designers are included here, yes). There is an opportunity to post works for free, get recommendations, and make friends. You cannot change anything or link your domain.

Dribbble

The site interface is quite simple and attractive. You can not only present your works, look at the designs of other authors and comment on them, but also find many useful links to free sources.

Website on your own server (static or CMS)

If you are a web designer who knows how to layout, you can easily put together a nice portfolio website. If you don’t know how to type up or are too lazy, there are thousands of ready-made templates for you, costing from 2 to 100 dollars, in which you just need to replace the pictures. If you don’t understand anything about websites, ask a developer you know. Such work will not take much time and will not be expensive.
