What is better than Samsung s7. Comparison of Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S7: what has been improved in it? Wireless charging function

Samsung Galaxy S7 and A5 2017: today we compare last year's flagship of the South Korean manufacturer Galaxy S7 and its more affordable version Galaxy A5 2017. We will determine the difference between smartphones in characteristics, cameras, time battery life and other aspects.

Samsung has released its new flagship smartphone Galaxy S8, which means you can buy two great Galaxy devices (last year's Galaxy S7 and new Galaxy A5 2017) at a surprisingly low price.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and A5 2017 comparison of characteristics

Samsung Galaxy S7 and A5 2017 appearance comparison

Both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and A5 2017 have attractive designs. Smartphones are made of a combination of glass and metal. Additionally, both devices are more or less the same size and weight, despite the Galaxy S7 having a slightly smaller screen size (5.1 inches) compared to the A5 2017 (5.2 inches). In any case, both phones are comfortable to use with one hand.

Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and A5 2017 are waterproof, so you don't have to worry about them if you get caught in heavy rain or accidentally drop them in the pool.

The fingerprint scanner on the Samsung Galaxy S7 and A5 2017 is located on the front panel under the home button.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and A5 2017 features comparison

The Galaxy S7 beats its rival when it comes to screen quality. Last year's flagship of the company has a Quad HD resolution of 2560x1440 pixels. For comparison, the Galaxy A5 2017 comes with a more familiar Full HD display resolution.

However, both phones have stunning screens and you won't notice much of a difference even if you compare them side-by-side. Since the displays feature Super AMOLED technology, you can expect vibrant visuals and very high brightness.

In terms of internal storage, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and A5 2017 offer a 32GB option. Additionally, the flagship Galaxy S series is available in a 64GB model. Fortunately, both smartphones have an expansion slot internal memory by using MicroSD cards up to 256 GB.

As you know, most Samsung smartphones run on Android, and our heroes are no exception. The difference between the Samsung Galaxy S7 and A5 2017 is that the former device can already be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat, while the update for the latter smartphone is still pending.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and A5 2017 performance and battery comparison

When it comes to performance, the Galaxy S7 has the edge. Both smartphones run on Samsung's own Exynos processors. However, the Galaxy S7 comes with the more powerful Exynos 8890 chipset, while inside the Galaxy A5 2017 you'll find an Exynos 7880 chipset). Galaxy S7 also offers an additional gigabyte random access memory, which will allow the smartphone to run smoother and faster.

However, this does not mean that the Galaxy A5 2017 has poor performance. This great smartphone who can handle the most new game without any problems.

When it comes to battery, the Galaxy A5 2017 definitely has the edge. Owners of this device can expect more than one working day of battery life, while the Galaxy S7 will need to be charged at the end of each day, perhaps even more often.

In addition, A5 2017 has USB Type-C port, which means faster charging and data transfer.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and A5 2017 camera comparison

If the camera is the main factor when choosing a smartphone, then the Galaxy S7 should be your choice. This phone has one of best cameras 2017. We don't think it's worth going into too much detail as you can find tons of photos and reviews of the camera on YouTube and the internet.

The Galaxy A5 2017 doesn't have as great a camera as the Galaxy S7, but you still won't be disappointed. The phone is capable of taking vivid, detailed photos. However, the Galaxy A5 loses video recording with Full resolution HD because the Galaxy S7 can shoot videos at 4K Ultra HD resolution.

We conducted a detailed comparison of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and A5 2017, and found out the main differences between the smartphones. The final decision is yours.

Comparing flagships has already become a kind of tradition, especially since the choice in the upper price segment is limited to Apple and Samsung, other companies and their products only emphasize this, their sales do not reach even a couple of percent of what the two main brands in the smartphone market sell. Having explained why we are comparing these two brands, it’s time to say why there are three devices involved in the comparison and they formally belong to different generations. The difference between generations is due to the fact that there is approximately six months between the release of devices from Samsung and Apple, that is, the iPhone 7 is the newest device on the market. If they came out at the same time, then the comparison would be more interesting, since their sales would be synchronized in time, but this does not happen. The next generation Galaxy S8 will be released in February, while the iPhone 8 is still a year away. In my opinion, this question should concern pedants or those who have been using the Galaxy S7/S7 EDGE for some time and want to see what they came up with in the iPhone 7 that is not in their devices.

Since the Galaxy S7/S7 EDGE are actually the same phone, but with different screen diagonals, at first glance you need to compare the younger model with the iPhone 7 - the regular S7. They have comparable body sizes, while the S7 EDGE is noticeably larger, more likely to play against the iPhone 7 Plus. But in terms of cost, these models are comparable, since the S7 EDGE costs about the same as the iPhone 7, and the S7 is cheaper. Therefore, we are comparing two devices from Samsung, since many people are based not only and not so much on the screen size, but are trying to find the best option in terms of price/quality ratio.

Before we get into the comparison, there is an important caveat. This material does not consciously assess the significance of certain parameters, since we are all very different in our perception of the world and our needs. Some people think that a telephone is without a demon wired charging- this is yesterday, and does not even consider such devices; someone, on the contrary, considers it self-indulgence and denies the need for such technology. This buyer's guide covers all the little and big details, but you can set your priorities yourself by choosing what's best for you. Since every person is unique, your priorities will be very different from those of other readers, which means your choices will be unique in many ways. Go!

Design, case materials, dimensions

All markers have different tastes and colors, so discuss appearance models are pointless, some people like one thing, others another. For example, the Galaxy S7 EDGE is unique with beveled edges of the screen; no other company has analogues to such a solution; the phone can be recognized from afar, which is a rarity these days. But the downside of this appearance is that the ergonomics of the solution suffers somewhat, there are accidental clicks on these edges of the screen, and not everyone will like it. To some extent, this was a compromise in the S7 EDGE.

Now a few words about the case materials - the iPhone uses aluminum alloy, not only on the side edges, but also on the entire back surface, on which you can see inserts for antennas.

Samsung has a glass back wall, Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Virtually all colors Galaxy solutions play in the light, shimmer, and this is the advantage of using glass. At the same time, unlike metal, they are easily soiled and hand marks easily remain on them. But in everyday life it is not annoying and not too noticeable.

Apple's response to this was to add color. Jet Black(in Russia it is called Black Onyx). This is a polished metal that is very close in perception to Samsung glass panels. The downside is that it gets dirty just as easily, but it also scratches easily, so Apple recommends using a protective case for it. Why do you need a beautiful case if you need to immediately hide it in a case? Don't know.

The metal chassis in the Galaxy is created from 7000 series aluminum, that is, there is a certain parity here. Overall, both the iPhone and Galaxy are in the big leagues of the phone market based on the materials used in their construction, the best you can find.

Previously, iPhones used sapphire glass for the camera window and fingerprint sensor, making scratches virtually impossible. The iPhone 7 abandoned the use of sapphire glass, and this is a disadvantage compared to previous generations. Many people have shown in practice that these glasses are scratched. Another thing is that doing this will still not be easy. Samsung's camera glass is originally from Corning, it's difficult to scratch, there's parity here. But the fingerprint sensor is covered with plastic, and you use it dozens of times every day. As a result, within six months it wears out and begins to look untidy.

In the iPhone of previous generations, due to sapphire, nothing like this has ever happened; it is unclear what will happen with the iPhone 7, but since there is glass, it is unlikely to reach a state similar to the sensor on the S7/S7 EDGE. This is a weak point for Samsung.

Another weak point is the speaker grille in color schemes where it is painted black. This grille has also peeled off, exposing white metal.

And if on the iPhone we can say that the painting of the metal is excellent, and the abrasion even after two years looks so that it is hardly noticeable, then on the Galaxy individual elements become a weak point. And this is a problem that spans multiple generations of devices.

Now a few words about the protective glass that covers the screen in these models. Samsung has historically used Corning Gorilla Glass to secure the supply of this key component for screens, even purchasing part of the Corning company. Apple uses tempered mineral glass and no changes have been made to the seventh generation. As a result, an iPhone dropped from the same height onto asphalt or a hard surface, for example from a waist, usually breaks. Replacing a screen is one of the most expensive things to do, and it's more likely to happen here than with the Galaxy. Therefore, if you feel or know that the likelihood of dropping your phone from your hands is high, you need to use protective cases; they preserve the devices, but spoil their appearance. With Samsung this need is not as urgent as with the iPhone.

It's time to focus on the size of phones. There are many people in the world who believe that the smaller the phone, the better. They just don't need large screens, at least until they try them, after which a return to the old small screens becomes impossible. But from the point of view of compactness, the iPhone 7 is one of the best on the market. Its dimensions are 138.8x67.1x7.1 mm, weight - 138 grams. It fits perfectly in the hand, even a little small for a man’s hand.

Galaxy size The S7 is slightly larger, and this with a noticeably larger screen size (0.4 inches in real life is a striking difference). The phone dimensions are 142.4x69.6x7.9 mm, weight – 152 grams. But the S7 EDGE belongs to the category of phablets; it is not so compact, although it is one of the smallest in its class - 150.9x72.6x7.7 mm, weight 157 grams. Note that the larger size and weight also correlate with the larger battery sizes in the Galaxy line (3000 and 3600 mAh respectively). Overall, both devices are larger than the iPhone 7, but this will need to be based on your habits. In my opinion, all models are convenient in everyday life, but the iPhone 7 is too small for me with a screen.

Water and dust protection

I specially highlighted this point separately so that it would not get lost in the text. Previously, water protection was only available in flagships from Samsung, but now this option has also been added to the iPhone. The iPhone 7 has IP67 protection standard, while the Galaxy has IP68. Despite the differences, in everyday life it is important to know one thing that both devices will not sink, especially if you quickly get them out of the water. In both cases, the protection function is implemented well.

Display

In recent years, two trends have emerged: some - Pentile witnesses - know for sure that their eyes see individual dots on AMOLED screens with QHD resolution, others laugh at them and call them human microscopes. The iPhone has always used high-quality IPS matrices, which were above the market average, but the lag behind Samsung's AMOLED displays was clearly noticeable in a number of situations, for example, in bright sunlight. This was also affected by the fact that the screen size on the iPhone is smaller. In terms of screen diagonal, nothing has changed, it is 4.7 inches versus 5.1/5.5 inches. But technologically, the screen in the iPhone 7 was greatly changed and brought up to the level of AMOLED screens from Samsung. In practice, this is an almost impossible task, however, the display supplier’s engineers solved it for Apple. Moreover, it should be noted that a head-to-head comparison of screens will show that each has its own strengths and weaknesses, which follows from the technology of their production itself. But for the first time in the history of the iPhone, its screen in terms of color rendering, behavior in the sun, correct color reproduction, and maximum brightness in the sun is close or comparable to Samsung AMOLED screens. There is parity between these products.

As usual, I would like to refer to a detailed study of screens from Display Mate, in which those interested can look at graphs, measurements, and the like.

All other things being equal, the difference remains in both screen diagonal and resolution. In the iPhone, the resolution is traditionally lower, this is done to optimize the device’s performance - 1334x750 pixels, while in the S7/S7 EDGE it is 2560x1440 pixels. It is clear that higher resolution is better for most tasks, if this does not affect the running time and performance of the solution.

Now there is one more point that greatly distinguishes these devices. IN Samsung use The AMOLED screen allows you to create the AlwaysON function; the display constantly displays information, such as the clock, messages, calls. Or your wallpaper. That is, the phone turns from a dead black screen into something working. It is difficult to underestimate this function, since your device always seems to be working, and this has virtually no effect on the battery.

Another option is to automatically adjust the backlight to your preferences. For the first two weeks, the phone evaluates how you use it, which backlight is more pleasant to you. And it customizes itself specifically for you, this becomes clearly noticeable after just a few days. It would seem like a small thing, but this intelligent system allows you to achieve a lot.

I would also like to note that the number of display settings is traditionally greater in Samsung; you can customize the device for yourself as comfortably as possible. On the iPhone everything is much simpler, and there is no flexibility in settings.

Camera

This is another area where Apple has previously been content with being above average for most smartphones, but worse than the Galaxy. For the seven, the camera was greatly redesigned, and give or take it became comparable to the current generation of Galaxy with one difference, in the evening the S7/S7 EDGE takes pictures a little better. Traditionally for iPhone no manual settings, the interface is “point and shoot”, which is not suitable for everyone, since the machine does not allow you to draw out complex compositions. But the output of these devices is comparable, plus or minus, from the point of view of photography for the average person. If you don't need any additional settings, just want to take out your phone and take a photo, then both will be good. If you want to know a little more, then the iPhone won’t let you learn it.

I took a number of pictures with both cameras and asked Roman Belykh to compare them. I have no idea who he will give preference to, but it doesn’t matter. Both devices play in the same class, they are approximately the same.

Crops (Samsung Galaxy S7 EDGE / Apple iPhone 7)

Comparison of photos of Samsung Galaxy S7 EDGE and Apple iPhone 7 (Roman Belykh)

Day. Under normal or good lighting conditions (sun or bright day in the shade), smartphones show approximately the same picture in terms of detail. A nuance is photography software processing: Samsung produces the most “clean”, noise-free frame, while Apple practically does not do this. That's why all photos on the S7 Edge are slightly smoothed out. By the way, algorithms work in a similar way on almost all Samsung devices, including S5 and S6. In addition, Samsung slightly increases the contrast, which makes the photos look better in miniature (on the phone, on Twitter, on Instagram). I don’t really like it, however, “for the taste and color”...

Office Lighting/Home Lighting/Bar/Cafe. The first thing that catches your eye is the incorrect white balance of the Galaxy S7 Edge; the colors become closer to warm. The sharpness is lost and a slight “soap” appears. The picture on the iPhone 7 is also distorted, but remains with the correct BB and pleasant color reproduction. The image is a little sharper and more contrasty.

Insufficient lighting conditions. It seemed to me that in this test Samsung is much inferior to Apple:

  • You can get a blur-free shot more often on the iPhone 7
  • White balance is almost always more accurate on the iPhone 7, even if it is not entirely accurate and does not go into warm shades
  • Sharpness is slightly better on iPhone 7, less blurry

The biggest problem with the Galaxy S7 Edge is exposure and white balance. As a rule, the photo becomes yellow and overexposed, that is, too light. The HDR Auto feature is probably to blame.

Macro. During the day, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge produces better macro images: sharper and more pleasant bokeh. In low lighting conditions, the Samsung's advantages are lost a little, and Apple "joins" the game with a slightly sharper picture. But overall - parity, both are good.

Total. I would put the Apple iPhone 7 first because of its wider dynamic range, better work white balance and less aggressive noise reduction in low lighting conditions.

Battery

It is impossible to directly compare the operating time of devices; you can only estimate how long they will last in the same tasks under more or less similar conditions. There are no miracles here, and the iPhone lasts a little less time compared to the same S7. But most of the scenarios for its use are very different, for example, people do not use maximum backlight, limit application synchronization. As a result, the iPhone 7 can show close operating time, up to one daylight hours.

One of the big advantages of the S7/S7 EDGE is fast charging; it allows you to get a quarter of the battery charge in ten minutes, which is very good. Built-in wireless charging makes it possible to recharge your phone in cafes and other places without any wires. Here again we see the superior engineering solutions in the Galaxy over the iPhone. There is simply nothing like this in the iPhone 7.

Performance and Stereotypes

It is well known that the iPhone, or any iPhone, does not slow down, but Samsung with TouchWiz is a set of jambs and brakes. Unfortunately, with every iOS version The quality of software on the iPhone leaves much to be desired, but TouchWiz, on the contrary, has gotten rid of old problems and works stably and quickly. Both systems are approximately the same in perception, a common person Without a stopwatch in your hands you won't see any difference. Fans will foam at the mouth to prove that their phone opens the application faster, and will even accurately say the difference, which will be a fraction of a second. But you just need to look at how these devices work with your friends or in stores to form your opinion - how fast they are for you and whether they need to be made faster, and most importantly, why.

Storage space for your files

It's done, Apple has done it basic version smartphone with 32 GB, after all, in 2016/2017, a memory capacity of 16 GB looked like a mockery. Now there is complete parity, since the S7/S7 EDGE has the same amount of memory. But it is also possible to install a memory card, and the cards themselves can be anything, the main thing is that they are inexpensive. If you don’t want to install a memory card, you can install a second SIM card; this feature has never been available on the iPhone.

Special Notes

The iPhone 7 got rid of the 3.5 mm jack; now you need to listen to music through an adapter, which is completely inconvenient. In any case, until you get a large number of headphones with a proprietary Lightning connector. At the moment, such a connector does not have any special advantages. So here the Galaxy S7/S7 EDGE wins, at least for now and for me, you may have a different perception of this feature.

Short afterword

I love competition. As soon as iPhone sales began to fall, Apple reconsidered its approach and strengthened the engineering component of its smartphones. They installed better and more expensive screens, raised the camera quality to the Galaxy level, and added water protection. And that's great! Now these products are very close, offer almost the same set of functions, and the advantages of the Galaxy over the iPhone have become smaller. But they still remain, this is a large battery and, as a result, longer work in different modes, wireless and fast charging, the presence of memory cards, Always On screen mode. Unfortunately, the iPhone doesn't have anything that makes it unique in terms of hardware compared to the Galaxy. But maybe now Apple will try to make everything different here too?

I really like how competition spurred Apple on and forced it to make a product on par with Samsung; the iPhone 7 became much closer to the Galaxy. This means that the choice has become more difficult for you. However, the cost difference remains noticeable. Thus, in official deliveries, iPhone 7 is sold from 57 thousand rubles, Galaxy S7 - from 50 thousand, S7 EDGE costs 60 thousand rubles. And on the gray market the same S7 EDGE can be bought for 40-42 thousand rubles. In a word, there is something to think about and what to choose. Please tell us in the comments what you like about both devices, or maybe you choose a completely different brand. Share why you made this choice.

Owners of the S7 smartphone from the South Korean giant should not rush to save money for a new generation device. Although, undoubtedly, with its almost frameless display it makes an incredible impression. But is it worth buying a smartphone for more than 50 thousand rubles solely because of the display? Or maybe it’s not just the screen, but there are some other serious differences between the Galaxy S8 and S7? Now let's try to figure it out.

Differences in ergonomics or which is more convenient - Galaxy S7 or S8?

The appearance of the smartphone has not changed very much (and to be honest, in modern realities it is very difficult to create some very unique design), but at the same time, Samsung tried to surprise us with several things in the new flagship S8, and we must admit, in To some extent it worked out.

Exclusive display - the path to victory?

Comparing the appearance of the two “competitors”, naturally, a person makes a choice in favor of the S8. Since we have never seen such a display from Samsung flagships before. It catches your eye and really looks like something unique.

The screen diagonal has increased from 5.1 inches (in Galaxy S7), to 5.8 inches (in S8) and 6.2 inches (in S8 Plus).

By the way, remembering the S8 Plus, it is worth noting that we have already compared two top-end devices presented by Samsung’s mobile division in 2017 -.

To ensure that the display not only looks great, but also allows you to work with it comfortably, Samsung made it rounded at the edges, further reducing the width of the frame both in the upper and lower areas.

Let's briefly conclude that the display is truly a strong feature of the Galaxy S8. Galaxy S7 does not look so presentable and respectable against its background.

Moving the fingerprint sensor is a bold decision

Unlike the Galaxy S7, where the fingerprint scanner was built into the Home button and located under the phone's screen, in the Galaxy S8 the South Korean company experimented and placed the fingerprint sensor on the back panel of the smartphone. Yes, such an operation was performed in order to enlarge the display of the flagship, without greatly increasing its physical dimensions.

But how much more convenient has it become? Big question. Still, most users are accustomed to the “classic” location of the scanner on the front panel. And if we miss the scanner with our finger, we can stain the device’s camera - that’s also not good.

From the previous two points, we can conclude...

Galaxy S7 is a leader in convenience

Just because the appearance of a device is beautiful does not mean that it will be comfortable to work with. Still, the wide frame of the predecessor S7 was much more convenient. Since the smartphone could be safely held in our hand, being confident that our hand would not accidentally touch the display or perform any actions.

In addition, let's repeat about the fingerprint scanner. In the S7 it really is in its right place. Even if the smartphone is lying on the surface, we can unlock it. The S8 has a scanner on the back of the panel, which means you have to hold it in your hand to unlock it. But, in fairness, it is worth noting that the new product has an iris scanner - it can partially compensate for the inconvenience when unlocking the device.

Performance and Specifications

It is clear that the Galaxy S8, compared to its predecessor, has become “faster, higher, stronger” - if it were otherwise, no one would understand Samsung. But how much? Let's compare the technical characteristics of these models.

Battery and operating time

The battery remains completely unchanged - in both cases its capacity is 3000 mAh. Of course, we can assume that the Galaxy S8 will work longer than the S7 due to a more energy-efficient processor. But at the same time, in our opinion, the increased diagonal of the display will “eat up” this advantage.

Ports and connectors

The Galaxy S8 has the only change from the Samsung S7 - the MicroUSB charging and syncing port has been replaced with a more high-tech USB Type-C. And of course, it’s good that the 3.5 mm jack for connecting headphones has not gone away.

Map support MicroSD memory also available - you can always add an “extra” 256 GB.

Camera

The S8 has an improved camera, but improvements are more likely to occur at the software level . Why have there been no technical changes to the 12 megapixel camera? Unclear. Samsung somehow took a frivolous approach to improving the camera. While Apple is installing dual cameras and trying to surpass all its developments, Samsung is simply making minor improvements. We don’t see any particular differences or innovations from the Galaxy S7.

Performance

More than fast processor- despite the fact that “megahertz and cores” have increased slightly, the main difference is in the technical process.

  • Galaxy S7 is 8-core, 64-bit, made using a 14 nm process.
  • Galaxy S8 is 8-core, 64-bit, made using a 10 nm process.

It would seem that the difference is small, but sometimes it is the technical process (the size of the transistors on the processor chip) that gives a greater performance increase than an insane increase in the number of cores.

Samsung S8 also allows you to work with the latest mobile communications– gigabit LTE (cat. 16 versus cat. 9 in Galaxy S7).

Memory - operational and permanent

In this case, practically nothing has changed - both smartphones have 4 gigabytes of RAM (although there will be a version of the Galaxy S8 for the Chinese market with 6 gigabytes).

Capacity internal storage: Galaxy S8 is presented as the only variant with 64 gigabytes of memory. The 32 gigabyte version, as was in the S7, is no longer available.

What has been added or features of the Galaxy S8?

In fact, when compared with the Galaxy S7, then, in addition to the above, there are not many changes in the Galaxy S8:

  • The device initially works under Android control 7.0.
  • Added retinal identification.
  • Voice Bixby assistant - .
  • The new Samsung Dex docking station and its full support (by connecting it to a monitor, you can turn your phone into a full-fledged computer).
  • The main feature is that the Samsung inscription has been moved from the front side to the back cover. It would seem like a laugh and nothing more, but this annoyed many users.
  • Price. At the “start” of sales it became significantly higher.

Bottom line or what to choose?

If you use the S7, and the huge screen does not appeal to you, we do not recommend buying a new product - you will not see anything in it that could cost fifty thousand rubles. Of course, there was an upgrade that made the S8 slightly better than its predecessor. The main highlight of the new product is the display, but not everyone is ready to pay a lot of money for it.

If you are still thinking about whether to buy an S8 or S7, here are a couple of tips:

  • For those who want to save money, we recommend taking the predecessor, since its price will drop after the release of the new product to at least 30 thousand rubles. While the S8 in the first months after the start of sales will cost at least 55 thousand rubles. In terms of price-quality, the S7 is the undisputed leader.
  • For those who want everything at once, you can safely take the Galaxy S8. This particular smartphone at the moment is the most advanced both aesthetically and technologically.

P.S. What is your opinion? Is the Galaxy S8 much better than its predecessor? Write in the comments!

Two great companies. Two avid competitors. Lawsuits, accusing each other of plagiarism. Holy wars for fans. Samsung and Apple have a rich history. However, for those who have chosen their side in this “war”, nothing can be changed. Apple fans will praise the iPhone, even if it suddenly lags behind in terms of parameters Samsung flagship a full mile and vice versa.

However, if you are reading this article, you must be one of the rational people who choose with their minds and not with their hearts and you are interested in the real state of affairs and an honest comparison of parameters. Well, for you, our battle between the current flagships of the two giants is Galaxy S7 versus iPhone 7.

We will also talk a little about two more confrontations: iPhone 7 Plus vs Galaxy Edge 7 vs Galaxy Note 7.

Comparing the appearance of gadgets is, in fact, always a very thankless task, because as you know, “There are no comrades according to taste,” however, it would be unfair not to talk about the design of the heroes of this review, and the point is not even that Apple and Samsung are investing a huge amount of money went into its development, it’s just that both sevens really stood out in terms of appearance.

The seventh Galaxy came out a little earlier than the iPhone 7 and many exclaimed “Ah!” in admiration, because the South Korean giant, which had been rushing about the design of the flagship for a very long time, seems to have finally settled on the right direction. Galaxy S7 has become the ideal version of the sixth “galaxy”.

But then the seventh iPhone comes out and the second “Ah!” is heard. After two, probably, the most unsuccessful models in terms of design - the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S, Apple released an amazingly beautiful seven.

And who is cooler here - Apple or Samsung? Who is the winner in the battle of designs - Galaxy S7 vs iPhone 7? Yes, to be honest, I don’t even want to make a subjective conclusion, because both companies frankly tried their best and both devices are very good. But, however, we don’t forbid you to choose - admire it and cast your vote.

Performance

Well, here's where to spend iPhone comparison 7 Apple vs Samsung Galaxy S7 is already simpler, although there will be subtleties.

The South Korean giant's smartphone is available in two variations - one with an 8-core Exynos "heart" - a processor developed by Samsung, and the other with a 4-core SnapDragon from Qualcomm. The first version is addressed to the whole world, the second - to the USA and China.

iPhone 7 runs on its own A9 processor - 4-core. However, most of those reading this review probably understand that happiness is not in the number of cores, and, more precisely, not only in them. However, in order not to go into complex technical explanations of the operating mechanisms of all three processors, we will simply say that in the benchmark tests of a single core, the A9 is the leader, but in the overall tests it is beaten by both SnapDragon and Exynos.

In addition, the RAM capacity of the Samsung Galaxy S7 is 4 GB, and the iPhone 7 is half as much - 2 GB. Well, then, let's wrap it up, shall we? The South Korean giant's phone is obviously more powerful, so why compare further? Not so simple.

S7 is not more powerful, but POTENTIALLY more powerful. What do we mean? And the fact that (here is the cornerstone of the holivars of Apple fans and Koreans) smartphones work on different operating systemsApple iOS And Google Android and the latter is known for its gluttony. In addition, since the development of Android is not carried out by the South Korean giant itself, but by a third-party company, the optimization possibilities here are not as wide as those of Apple and iOS. So it turns out that the iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7, with different hardware, are equal in performance. That is, if you let the user use one and another gadget in turn, he will not notice the difference.

ROM

As you know, the iPhone never supported working with external memory; at some point, Samsung also abandoned this option for flagships, allegedly due to the lack of fast enough ROM on the component market.

However, the argument is not nonsense, because who would the user curse if the flagship began to slow down when accessing external memory? Of course, the company whose brand is depicted on the smartphone’s body, and not a third-party memory manufacturer.

However, in the seventh “galaxy” it was decided to return to working with microSD, so in model range There is only one flagship model - with 32 GB of ROM, which can be expanded with external memory up to 256 GB.

But Apple has no changes in this area. None external cards, choose from models - 32, 128 and 256 GB (however, the more memory, the more expensive the device will cost, and the differences in price will be considerable).

Cameras

Perhaps the most interesting section of the battle between the iPhone 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S 7 is a comparison of their cameras, because for the first time the main cameras of the flagships have the same “megapixel” - 12 megapixels for each “brother”. And this despite the fact that some time ago there was a two-fold gap between the devices.

Apple did not change the 8 megapixel sensor for a very long time, proving that “not just megapixels” (a 12 megapixel sensor appeared in the predecessor of the seven - iPhone 6S), and the Galaxy flagships already started working with 16 megapixels and suddenly returned to 12 megapixels. Why? Because in Galaxy camera S7, it was decided to increase the pixel size - the larger the pixel, the more light falls on it, and therefore the night shooting capabilities become better. This technology is called Dual Pixel Camera. And, by the way, it also had a positive effect on the focus and clarity of the pictures.

If we talk about major changes in the main camera of the iPhone, then it is worth noting the expanded color range and a new lens with higher aperture. And finally the appearance optical system stabilization - this change was highly anticipated back in the iPhone 6S, and, in general, it was expected, but only in the advanced version - iPhone 6S Plus.

There are still a lot of small changes in the cameras of the flagships of Apple and Samsung, but there is no point in describing them, it’s better to just study the image tests.

What do the tests show? Two great cameras, which produce very cool shots both day and night. But still, most independent experts agree that in low light conditions the “Korean” is in the lead. And in the comparison of iPhone 7 vs Galaxy S7 cameras, the latter wins in terms of manual adjustment capabilities.

But as for the front cameras of the iPhone and Galaxy, it is perhaps impossible to single out a leader, although the Apple front camera is equipped with a 7 megapixel sensor, and the Samsung flagship has a 5 megapixel sensor.

Autonomy

What about the round - iPhone 7 autonomy vs Samsung autonomy Galaxy S7? This is the situation here. The battery capacity of the seventh iPhone is 1960 mAh, Galaxy S7 is 3000 mAh. Again the obvious leader in our review - which is better? Not really. We will have to remember again about the gluttonous Android and the much more modest appetites of iOS. And although in standby mode there is a difference of 60 hours between the S7 and iPhone 7 - the i-gadget will last 240 hours, the Korean - 300, in active use mode it is not known who will “die” first. But, most likely, the flagships will show the result that is typical today for any powerful smartphone - a day without recharging. However, it is important to note that the Galaxy S 7 supports fast charging technology, while the Apple flagship does not.

Display

Galaxy S7 is equipped with a 5.1-inch diagonal, a resolution of 2560x1334 pixels, which corresponds to a pixel density of 576 ppi, AMOLED technology. iPhone 7 has a diagonal of 4.7 inches, a resolution of 1334x750 pixels, density - 326, IPS technology.

In terms of numbers, the flagship from Samsung is again in the lead here, but the clarity of both displays (determined by pixel density) is high and the human eye will not be able to understand which of them is more generously equipped with pixels. Well, if there is no difference, as they say, why pay more?

You may have noticed that device displays are manufactured using different technologies. We won’t go into lengthy explanations, let’s just say that AMOLED displays are often accused of being incredibly saturated. True, here Samsung meets users halfway and makes it possible, thanks to simple settings, to make the shades more natural.

Waterproof

Samsung comparison The Galaxy S7 and iPhone 7 in terms of water resistance are again not to the advantage of the Apple device. The case of the South Korean flagship is protected according to the IP68 standard - this means that the device is not afraid of moisture and dust, and can also be submerged to a depth of 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes.

The advanced “Apple” is protected according to the IP67 standard - the iPhone 7, like its main competitor, is not afraid of moisture and dust, but it will only withstand immersion for a meter, and in addition, over time, its waterproof properties will deteriorate. And, by the way, in the official video, Apple only demonstrates that the seven doesn’t care about rain and splashes, but nothing is said about immersion in water, and this forces one to draw quite understandable conclusions.

Related Models

The iPhone 7, like the iPhone 6S, was also presented in the Plus version, and the Galaxy S7 was accompanied by the S7 Edge smartphone. The main difference between the South Korean devices is the design; the Edge has a larger diagonal and a screen that curves slightly onto the side edges. And if we compare the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, then, it must be said that the latter not only grew in height, but also received a cooler dual camera - it has two 12-megapixel modules, and this makes it possible to get not only more high-quality footage in low light conditions, but also play with cool effects.

So if you compare the possibilities iPhone cameras 7 Plus and Samsung smartphone Galaxy S7 Edge, the Apple gadget will win, because the S7 Edge version received the same module as the S7.

On the other hand, many believe that if you compare the design of S7 Edge vs iPhone 7, then the first one will be cooler. Yes, we said that design is a subjective thing, but the screen curved on the sides looks so cool and original that it would be reasonable to call it the winner in this fight. As strange as it may be to admit, Edge is so “tasty” that even the iPhone 7 looks modest compared to it.

Another companion model to the Galaxy S7 can be called the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. And therefore, a mini-battle of iPhone 7 Plus vs Galaxy Note 7 also needs to be held. And, I must say, here the South Korean model has something to brag about, with the same powerful hardware as the S7 (in some places the Note is even cooler - a larger diagonal and 64 GB ROM), it also has such cool features as a retinal scanner and S-Pen stylus. Of course, the iris scanning technology still needs to be tested, but we must admit that in the Innovation round between Samsung Galaxy Note 7 vs iPhone 7 Plus, the South Korean gadget is in the lead.

But in the round of explosiveness - Galaxy Note 7 vs iPhone 7 Plus, “Apple” wins. Even those who are far from the world of gadgets have heard about exploding Notes - the “tragedy” turned out to be very large-scale. And although Samsung representatives assured that this was a problem only with the first batch and recalled the defective smartphones, it would be wrong to keep silent about this, because if such an “incident” happened to Apple, they would never forget it.

Bottom line - so who is better - iPhone 7 or Galaxy S7?

Before we sum it up and choose the winner, we must say that whether it turns out to be the Galaxy S 7 or the iPhone 7, you must understand that these two smartphones and their accompanying models are the iPhone 7 Plus, Edge 7, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 - the most powerful gadgets in today's mobile market. But still, who is cooler?

“Dry” numbers will not let you lie - the winner in this difficult battle is the South Korean flagship. Well, okay, a processor that loses in the benchmark and Apple’s 2 GB RAM can easily be forgiven - well, why waste extra resources if iOS has very modest appetites compared to Android. In addition, you can forgive a camera that produces slightly worse pictures in low visibility conditions and a display whose pixel density is lower than that of the Galaxy S7 - again, why bother where the human eye won’t notice it anyway.

But! Why doesn't Apple make a battery at least equal in capacity to the Galaxy S7 and then the already power-hungry iOS will be able to work almost twice as long. Plus, the “apple” lags behind in terms of moisture resistance. So, where is the long-awaited fast charging technology? It’s hard for the company to find excuses here. And if you remember that in the iPhone 7, supposedly for beauty, Apple decided to leave only one Lighting connector, getting rid of the standard audio connector (now Apple users can listen to music either with the original headset, or through an adapter), it becomes completely sad.

And finally, the price. The average cost of the flagship of the South Korean giant is 45,000 rubles, the iPhone 7 is 55,000 rubles (for the version with 32 GB of ROM).

However, if you are an “Apple” person, there is nothing you can do about it, you will have to save up and put up with the shortcomings, because 99% of those who have used iOS at least once no longer want to return to Android. And, of course, it’s nice to feel like a “member of the Apple club”, after all, who knows what kind of Samsung you have in your hands, but the “apple” on the back panel immediately explains that this is a flagship, after all, it’s not just Apple flagships doesn't.

The phone is already two years old, so a large number of users were able to touch it and try it out in “combat” conditions. Accordingly, there are many reviews, some of which are positive and negative. We’ll probably start our review of the Samsung Galaxy S7 with reviews.

Let's talk about the good stuff first. Users note that top-end hardware does not allow the smartphone to be loaded so much that it exhibits lags or slowdowns. And even despite the fairly high performance, even after two years, the battery charge even lasts for two days with average use of the gadget.

As for appearance and ergonomics, this is almost the most common reason positive feedback. Users say that the smartphone fits comfortably in the hand and looks very stylish in appearance. Many successful solutions can also be considered as advantages innovative technologies implemented in the phone - fast charging, Always On Display function, a high resolution screen, payments directly from your smartphone. In general, there are more positive reviews of the phone than negative ones.

Now a little about the disadvantages. The frame of the case is made of soft metal, which can cause quite significant dents in the event of an unsuccessful fall, even from a low height. Although the glass is declared as protected, scratches still remain on it. Also, the glass on both sides of the smartphone is very easily soiled and marks remain.

It’s interesting that users sometimes consider low battery life as a disadvantage, that is, it is obvious that for people who actively use their smartphone to the fullest, the battery charge is clearly not enough. There are also infrequent failures with the fingerprint scanner. Also among reviews of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, a common problem with AMOLED screens is noted - the display becomes overexposed over time. Among the less significant details, one can note the insufficient quality of the images front camera and availability unnecessary applications in stock.

Design and construction of Samsung Galaxy S7 with photo model

Following fashion trends in screen sizes, the Galaxy S7 chose its ideal diagonal - 5.1 inches. It was liked by many users. It fit comfortably in any hand and was of sufficient size for comfortable use.

Although both sides of the gadget are covered with glass, it does not slip out of your hands and lies confidently. The frames of the case are made of aluminum and contrast effectively with the color of the front and rear panels. In Russia, three main colors are available - golden, silver and black.

The design of the smartphone is non-separable. That is, you won’t be able to remove the battery yourself. The case is protected from moisture according to the IP68 standard. This means that it can be sunk to a shallow depth. The board and key contacts of the components are treated with a special compound that repels water, preventing it from accumulating inside. An overheating protection system is installed inside with a heat sink that runs through almost the entire structure of the smartphone, taking heat from the hottest components and releasing it to other areas.

Review of technical characteristics of Samsung Galaxy S7

The parameters of this smartphone are probably ? The most interesting thing in this review. Let's slowly go through them all and figure them out.

Processor type and memory parameters

Despite Samsung’s refusal to work with Snapdragon processors, a version with the 820 model will still be released in some countries. A larger number of flagships will be equipped with a self-developed Exynos 8890 processor. Also, the company did not use foreign cores inside the processor and made its own. Exynos has 8 of them: 4 of them? high-performance and 4 ? energy efficient. The former can operate at a frequency of 2.3 GHz, and the latter - 1.6 GHz. The GPU used is Mali-T880 MP12. Supported memory type is LPDDR4.

The gadget’s own memory can be set to 32, 64 or 128 GB. The rejection of memory cards in previous models was apparently perceived negatively, so in the S7 the ability to connect flash drives was returned. The amount of RAM in the smartphone is 4 GB.

Display type and parameters

The Samsung S7 uses an AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2560×1440. An interesting new feature was the placement of the display's polarizing filter at an angle of 45°. What is it for? In order for the screen to have the same degree of brightness when working with a smartphone in sunglasses, regardless of the orientation - portrait or landscape.

The smartphone also has a nice system for semi-automatic adjustment of screen parameters. That is, a person configures all the parameters for himself each time, and over time the system begins to recognize under what circumstances the user would like to use certain settings and automatically activates them.

Always-On technology also turned out to be innovative. This is surprising, but even a locked screen can constantly display some information - time, date, missed calls and SMS. And at the same time - in color. You can set the screen to display a background or screen saver. Contrary to all concerns about battery charge, Always-On, according to test results, consumes only 4-5% per day.

Battery

The key to autonomy of any device? this is not only the battery size, but also a bunch of other factors - optimization software, use of energy efficiency electronic components. IN Galaxy smartphone S7 has a 3000 mAh battery. The duration of work has another important factor - the use of the gadget by a specific user. One may not get out of games, another may turn on the screen from time to time to send a couple of messages and read the news, and a third may use the smartphone simply as a dialer. Therefore, the effectiveness of autonomy may be different for different people. In general, the charge should be enough to continuously watch videos for 15 hours.

An interesting solution was the fast wired charging function, which allows you to charge 100% of the battery within 1.5 hours. This is an excellent result, which not all even modern flagships can boast of. It is also worth noting the support for wireless charging in the smartphone, and two standards.

Characteristics of the main and front camera of the Samsung Galaxy S7

The main camera uses the Sony IMX260, created specifically for Samsung. Therefore, such a camera cannot be found in other devices.

The camera uses advanced autofocus, which uses 100% of the pixels of the matrix, according to the developers. This means that autofocus is very fast in almost all lighting conditions. In general, Samsung cameras have always been excellent. And the Samsung Galaxy S7 was no exception - the photos are juicy and clear.

Software

At the time of release of Samsung S7, current and stable version There was Android 6.0. As a result, the gadget received version 6.0.1. The OS is highly optimized and works quickly, without delays or crashes. There is also TouchWiz - Samsung's own development, which is GUI for Android.

Perhaps someone will be interested in an innovation - the Galaxy Care application. This program can monitor the state of the hardware and software of the device, contains a knowledge base, FAQ on working with the gadget, and also allows you to get support directly from the developers. The Galaxy Labs application is a kind of testing ground for innovations from Samsung. Here the user can enable or disable new features, as well as rate. The company analyzes information about this and decides whether to include the new functionality in the next build or abandon it.

It is also worth noting the presence on the smartphone of the ability to change the screen size for more convenient control with one hand. You can resize individual windows, the dialer, parts of the menu, etc.

The Always-On mode, which we talked about earlier, can also be customized. There are already predefined themes that affect not only the turned off screen, but also the system as a whole. Themes can be downloaded to further diversify the appearance of your desktop and menus. Freelance developers may be interested in a separate SDK for creating their own themes.

Communication capabilities and interfaces of the Samsung Galaxy S7

The smartphone has the following interfaces: USB 2.0, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, NFC, S Beam. There is nothing special to note about USB; it is a standard interface with a data transfer speed of 20 Mb/s. Wi-Fi is capable of operating in modes up to the ac standard. Wi-Fi Direct is intended to replace Bluetooth, which it does successfully. Now you can transfer data to neighboring devices directly, without intermediaries, at Wi-Fi speeds. S Beam is a combination of two related solutions - NFC and Wi-Fi Direct. In short, it allows you to transfer large files instantly.

Sensors and fingerprint scanner

There are simply a ton of sensors in this Samsung. Starting with the accelerometer and ending with the humidity sensor. Here is their detailed list:

  • accelerometer Determines the position of the smartphone in space. Present in almost every modern phone;
  • gyroscope. It differs from an accelerometer only in that it can determine the angle of inclination of the phone relative to the ground;
  • magnetometer, also known as digital compass;
  • barometer. Serves to determine atmospheric pressure;
  • light sensor. Measures the brightness of ambient light so that the smartphone can adjust the screen brightness accordingly;
  • proximity sensor. Reacts to the distance of the object to the smartphone to ensure the screen is locked during a conversation;
  • heart rate sensor;
  • humidity sensor. Reacts to humidity in the microUSB connector and blocks charging.

As for the fingerprint scanner, it is built into the “Home” button under the smartphone screen. To activate it, you must first “wake up” the device by pressing it. It is noted that the button itself tends to leave scratches, which impairs finger readability.

Comparison of Samsung Galaxy S7 parameters with other Samsung smartphones

The S7 in some ways repeats previous models, in some ways it is inferior to subsequent flagships. For an objective picture, we need to compare it with other representatives of the Samsung Galaxy family of smart phones, find out how much the S7 itself costs.

Comparison of characteristics of Samsung Galaxy S7 with Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

In relation to the older model, the S7 is slightly inferior in some characteristics to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. For example, its screen diagonal is 5.1 inches versus 5.5? at Edge. But many fans rightfully appreciated the compactness of the smartphone. At the same time, the resolutions of both smartphones remain the same - 2560x1440. This means that the final pixel density will be higher in the S7.

Both gadgets have the same amount of RAM - 4 GB. In general, the performance of the two models is exactly the same, as the same components are used. Edge, apparently taking into account that the model’s screen is larger and, therefore, will consume more energy, received a more powerful 3600 mAh battery. The price difference between the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Edge can be about 4,000-5,000 rubles.

Comparison of the characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy S7 with other models

More interesting is the comparison of S7 with previous version– S6. The screens of both gadgets are absolutely identical. Only the S7 also has Always-On. The categories of 4G network standards differ slightly. S7 can work with category 9, and S6 – 6.

For performance, both gadgets use 8-core processors made by Samsung. The difference lies in generations: S7 has Exynos 8890, S6? Exynos 7420, as well as in frequencies. There is also a fairly significant difference in moisture resistance: S7 has an IP68 level, while S6 does not have it at all. Also, the previous model is inferior in terms of the amount of RAM per 1 GB, that is, it has 3 in total.

Unfortunately, it is quite difficult to find the S6 on sale now, so there is no current data on its price.
