Recovering deleted programs on a laptop. How to Recover Recently Deleted Applications and Programs on Your Computer (1 Easy Method). Let's compare the considered applications

Quite often, personal computer users are faced with a situation where a certain program is uninstalled due to a virus infection or for some other reason. Sometimes it happens that it is impossible to reinstall a particular program. Therefore, it needs to be restored using a special utility. For these purposes, you can download a special program on the Internet or use standard operating system tools.

You will need

  • - UndeletePlus program.

Instructions

  • Select All Programs from the Start menu, then go to the Accessories tab. Next, select “Utilities”, then “System Restore”. This operating system option is designed to restore system parameters to the previous period of operation, marked by a “checkpoint” set automatically by the system or manually by you. All programs that existed on the computer during the specified period of time will be restored.
  • Select the “Restore an earlier state” option that appears in the window that opens. Follow the computer prompts and click “Next”. Select the date corresponding to the removal of the program. You will see a list containing the deleted program. Click on it once with the left mouse button and click “Next” again. The program will be restored to your computer. This method is mainly suitable for restoring recently deleted software on your personal computer. The “control point” is set automatically on the date when the system parameters optimally corresponded to normal operation.
  • Install the “Undelete Plus” utility on your personal computer. When installing, select Russian language to simplify the use of the program. Launch the program. In the window that appears, click on the “Scan” button. This is a mandatory operation prior to recovery. A list will appear in the right window. In this list, mark the programs you deleted from your computer that you do not want to restore. The remaining part will be prepared for restoration. Before clicking on the “Restore” button, click on the “Options” button and select the “Restore folder structure” function. This action will simplify the task of finding the desired program in a large list of files.
  • Often, novice users delete necessary data from a laptop or accidentally lose it without knowing whether it is possible to recover deleted files, including those on the desktop, and how to do it. There may be quite simple situations where lost documents are literally a couple of clicks away, but there may also be more serious problems that require the use of special applications to solve.

    Recovering from the Recycle Bin

    All files after deletion while maintaining the standard computer settings fall into the so-called. Recycle Bin is a special folder on the desktop, by opening which you can easily restore any deleted information by highlighting the desired object and selecting the appropriate item in the menu. But files can be deleted permanently without being placed in the trash.

    Inexperienced users often accidentally delete application shortcuts and documents from the desktop, believing that if they are gone, then the rest of the program has also been deleted entirely. In this case, many people do not know how to recover deleted files. This is very easy to do, even if the basket is empty. There are two options:

    1. Roll back the system to the nearest restore point;
    2. Find the program in the main menu of the Start button and drag the desired shortcuts to the desktop.

    The second option is preferable, but if lost programs and documents have disappeared from the list of the main menu on the computer and you do not remember the directory in which they were installed, you will have to use the first.

    If you are deciding how to recover a deleted folder from your desktop, and the erroneous action was performed recently, then you probably won’t even have to go to the Recycle Bin. Deletion can be canceled by simultaneously pressing hot Ctrl and Z.

    Using a restore point

    It is important to understand that rolling back to a previous restore point will not return the program, documents and files if they were deleted. In this way, only erased shortcuts on the desktop can be returned to their place. Here's how it's done using Windows 8 as an example:

    A window will open in which, by default, you will be asked to restore to the most recent checkpoint. If necessary, you can specify any other existing restore point.

    We use third-party applications

    If data and documents from the laptop’s hard drive are completely deleted and cannot be returned using standard OS tools, you will have to use special utilities to recover deleted files. It is important to remember the main rule that increases the chances of successful data recovery - do not write anything to the disk partition that you will be working with later.

    Recuva is a simple free utility

    The most famous and simple application with which you can recover deleted files is . When installing, select the partition of the disk on which there is no data to be recovered. The principle of operation of Recuva and other similar utilities is approximately the same:

    After the scan is completed, the recovery wizard will display on your desktop a list of all the lost documents that it was able to detect. Those that are marked with a green circle can be restored by the utility without any loss.. If the icon color is red, then this file most likely cannot be returned - a recording has already been made over it and most of the data and information about the file are completely lost.

    All that remains is to select the files (you can use the corresponding function to search for specific photos and documents), select the directory to save and click “Recover”.

    PhotoRec is another functional free utility

    The name of the program should not be misleading. The utility recovers not only photos, but also most other types of files. Its advantage is that there is no need for installation - it can be downloaded from the office. site in the form of an archive, unpacked, after which you can work with it. This is an important property for such applications - the program can be immediately downloaded to a flash drive and worked with it.

    The scheme for returning long-lost information is as follows:

    1. After launching PhotoRec, the main window immediately opens, in which the drive is selected in the top drop-down menu - you will have to work with it during data recovery. The program also works with img format images created in other applications.
    2. Below in the window there is a list in which you can select a full disk scan or individual sections.
    3. Below, you can set the file type to scan by clicking File Format. If you skip this step, the program will try to recover all accidentally deleted data that it can detect.
    4. You can specify a folder to save the recovered information by clicking the Browse button. In addition, in the File System type menu you will need to select a file system. If you are working in a Windows environment, check the second box. Ext 2-4 system is the standard for Linux.

    Let's compare the considered applications

    For novice users, the PhotoRec program is no less suitable than the above-described Recuva. It is more powerful - it often extracts data from the computer better, but it still has one unpleasant feature. Free PhotoRec does not allow you to view the found files after scanning and select something specific from them. This must be taken into account when working with large hard drives - if you do not specify in advance which files are to be restored, everything will be saved.

    Above we discussed the simplest free applications for retrieving accidentally deleted information on the desktop or lost documents after formatting flash drives, hard drives and other media.

    It is important that PhotoRec, unlike Recuva, is also a cross-platform utility, i.e., it can work in any operating environment.

    Let's look at how to quickly recover a deleted file in Windows, Mac OS, Android and iOS.

    There is always a danger of accidentally deleting an important file on your computer or smartphone.

    Thanks to proven recovery methods, you can get your lost data back.

    Method 1 – Built-in FunctionsWindows

    When you delete a file in any operating system, it may disappear from Explorer, but you can restore it from memory.

    If you start attempting to return a document before turning off the device, there is a high chance of recovery without errors.

    Once your session ends, bits of previously deleted information may be lost, and even if you manage to recover the document, it may not display correctly or may not open at all.

    In any case, it’s worth trying to get the information back.

    Windows has two built-in features that can help you recover a file:

    • Basket;
    • Backup service.

    You will need any version of Windows and knowledge of the approximate time to delete the file.

    Let's look at how each method works.

    Basket

    By default, in Windows OS all deleted objects are placed in Cart– a system folder containing files that you no longer need.

    To permanently delete, the user needs to empty the Trash. A similar feature is available on Mac and Linux.

    Open Cart on your desktop or use the search. View the contents of the folder.

    It can be sorted by date added. This makes it much more convenient to find deleted elements if you Cart there are too many objects.

    View content in a window Baskets it is forbidden.

    You only have access to the file name, path to the source folder and properties.

    To return an object, right-click on it and select the “Restore” field. The file will return to the folder from which it was deleted.

    Please note that the system allocates limited space to the Recycle Bin and its contents will disappear automatically over time.

    To avoid automatic deletion in the future, you must expand the space allocated for the Trash:

    • Right click on the icon Baskets and go to the properties window;
    • Check the “Set size” checkbox and manually enter the maximum number of megabytes. It is desirable that the system folder occupy no more than 25% of the total memory of hard drive C;
    • Save your changes.

    Backup

    Often users try to restore a file after cleaning it Baskets.

    You have a chance to get your important document back using the Windows Backup service, which works on all versions of the OS.

    If backups are enabled on your computer, you can restore the OS to its previous state, in which the important file had not yet been deleted.

    Try to remember the last time you used an object.

    Then follow these steps:

    • Open the search box and enter “Backup Options”;
    • Open the found service;
    • In the new window, go to the “Backup Service” tab, and then go to the “Backup and Restore” section;
    • A control panel window will open showing all available backups and the exact date they were created.

    If the option to create a backup is disabled or you did not find copies for the required time period, you will not be able to restore files using this method.

    It is necessary to install third-party programs to return deleted objects.

    Method 2 – Third party programs forWindows

    With the help of third-party software, there is a high probability of recovering documents, photos, videos, music and other files.

    Below is a selection of working programs with a user-friendly interface that can be downloaded for free.

    Hetman Partition Recovery

    Hetman Recovery is software that can recover data from hard drives, as well as from various flash drives, drives and other types of storage devices.

    Open programs and select the desired hard drive from which the file was deleted.

    If you are recovering data from external devices, first connect the drive to your computer and then restart the program. It will appear in the list of available devices.

    After selecting the drive, you need to press the “Recovery” button.

    The advantage of the program is the ability to preview content.

    Even if the utility found the required file, its final appearance may not meet your expectations. This is especially true for multimedia.

    Ontrack Pro

    For those who need a professional Recovery program, we recommend working with Ontrack Pro.

    It is paid, but users can use the trial period completely free of charge.

    A special feature of the application is the presence of a built-in assistant and recovery wizard. Also, during the scanning process, the utility looks for all compressed, encrypted or damaged objects. If the resulting file is not displayed, Ontrack Pro will begin the content correction process.

    EaseUS Data Recovery

    EaseUS Recovery is a program that will be useful when you need to recover information on a computer, tablet or phone.

    In the main window, the function of quick or full system scanning is available, as well as the LastChance mode - for data recovery with a probability of 98%.

    EaseUS works well with the Windows file system.

    To get started, just select the disk and click on scan mode in the menu area.

    After the process is completed, a list of files available for recovery will appear.

    Card Recovery

    The Card Recovery application can work in all types of file systems, but the program is more effective at recovering data from flash drives and SD cards that are connected to the computer.

    Working with Card Recovery consists of following the instructions that are shown in the main window.

    Among the advantages of the software are free distribution and a small amount of memory required.

    Tenashare Recovery

    Tenashare allows you to recover multimedia information from your computer or external media.

    If you were unable to recover deleted photos using the programs described above, download Tenashare and start the scanning process.

    Method 3 – Solution forMAC OS

    For Mac OS there are also several effective programs that will help you recover deleted content.

    As you know, in this operating system it is much easier to uninstall files and applications, and at the same time, cases of objects being deleted due to negligence are becoming more frequent.

    Disk Drill

    Disk Drill is the most popular file recovery program for Mac OS.

    Advantages:

    • Works with all file formats;
    • Supports recovery from external devices and media;
    • Russified interface;
    • Ease of use.

    To start scanning, find the disk from which the object was deleted. Then click on the Recover button.

    Also, using Disk Drill, you can monitor the state of the disk, clear memory of temporary files and other “garbage”, search for duplicate files, and set up deletion protection.

    Method 4 – Recovering files fromAndroid

    This way you have a greater chance of successful recovery.

    If you do not have superuser rights, try working with software that does not require special phone settings.

    Dr. Fone

    Dr. Fone is a desktop program that is designed to recover information from Android devices.

    The software is paid, but you can work with the program for free for 30 days.

    This time is enough to scan and return the files.

    Follow the instructions:

    • Install Dr. Fone to computer;
    • Connect your mobile gadget to your PC and open the program;
    • Wait until Dr. Fone will detect your device;
    • Check the box next to the information you want to restore and click “Next”;
    • Follow the program's instructions and in the final window, save the available files to your phone's memory or to your computer's hard drive.

    If such a situation arises, you should stop all activities on the computer for a while. Restoring what was lost is possible in most cases. The point is how information is stored on disks and how it is deleted. Files are written in the free space of the media, and they are often divided into several parts. The operating system “knows” about this, since all the information is recorded in a special file allocation table. Now these places are considered empty and suitable for writing another file. As long as no recording occurs, it is quite possible to restore the data.

    The standard two-step deletion of information: to the Recycle Bin, which can later be emptied, is intended to avoid data loss. If this method was used, there can be no trouble. Even if the question is: “how to restore deleted programs on your computer,” if you simply moved the folders where the programs were stored to the Recycle Bin, recovery is not difficult. Having opened the Recycle Bin, find the folders and files to be restored, select them and select “restore” in the context menu (right click on the object). To quickly find what you need in the Recycle Bin, it is worth organizing the icons of files and folders by name, size or date of deletion - depending on what is known. By the way, since the Recycle Bin, although a system one, is still a folder, the required object can simply be dragged with the mouse into the desired folder.

    A file too large to be placed in the Recycle Bin is permanently deleted. Or the Trash has been carefully emptied of its contents. What to do? If the operating system did not have time to write new files to the sectors of the disk, which it now considers empty, not all is lost. But you will have to use special programs: Windows tools are not enough. There are quite a lot of such programs, paid and freely distributed. For example, Recuva is a popular compact and fast software. Install (not on the drive that we will check, on another!), specify the search parameters and check the result, that’s all that is required from the user. Partially restored ones are highlighted in color.

    For designers and photographers who work a lot with memory cards to store graphic information, special software has been developed for its recovery. Such utilities scan disks or specified folders, looking for deleted photos. Specialization allows you to achieve good search performance. Before recovery, you can view the found photos individually or in slide show mode to select the ones you need. There are quite a lot of such programs, both with a free license and paid ones.

    With programs the situation is somewhat more complicated. The fact is that, for example, MS Word is actually a collection of programs, subroutines, service files, libraries, etc. Therefore, it is not easy to restore such a “monster”. On the other hand, there are many programs that consist of a single file. They don’t even always require installation, starting, for example, from a flash drive or any other media. How to recover a deleted baby program? If such a program is lost, it is restored using the method indicated above.

    A full-fledged program installed from the distribution registers itself in different places, primarily in the system registry. Deletion is accompanied by changing these records and erasing information in the file allocation table. The shopping cart is not involved in any way in the process and it is useless to look there. But how to restore a deleted program on a computer and is it possible? You need to run the “System Restore” program (“Standard” - “Service” - “System Restore”). In the program window, select “Restore an earlier state.” The date must be specified before the program is uninstalled. But everything installed later will be lost.

    Do you often need to restore files? It is worth thinking about special programs that prevent the problem from occurring. For example, using a product from Norton - a special secure Recycle Bin, a replacement for the standard Windows Recycle Bin. Thanks to the settings, the capacious Norton Recycle Bin stores deleted files for a very long time. Norton also has a product called Norton Utilites that recovers deleted email messages. There is also a special utility to solve the problem of “how to restore programs on a computer.” The package is paid, but data is often even more expensive.

    User error, system failure or virus attack - many things can lead to information loss. The question “How to recover a deleted program or files?” is relevant due to the specifics of the work - care should be taken to have backup systems that greatly reduce the risk of damage from missing data. Lost information is easily restored from backup storage.

    Removing programs in the Windows environment is carried out in several stages and almost completely eliminates the accidental uninstallation of necessary utilities. However, in practice, users quite often wonder how to restore deleted programs.

    Attention! Some programs may not work correctly after recovery, so if you have the opportunity to install the application again, then do it without resorting to a system rollback or the help of third-party utilities.

    For example, if you deleted the game completely and cleaned the registry, then with a high degree of probability it will not start after restoration or will work with errors.

    Built-in tools

    The first way to get a deleted application back is to roll back the system to a checkpoint that was created before uninstalling the program. This procedure differs slightly in different versions of Windows, but the principle remains the same.

    You can also find the rollback to previous state function through the Start menu in the All Programs section.

    The main disadvantage of this method is that you can only return those applications that were recently uninstalled. In addition, if you delete temporary files from your computer and clear the list of restore points, you will not be able to use system rollback.

    Third party software

    If you need to return to your computer a program that was deleted a long time ago, use the functions of the special Undelete Plus utility.

    It works on the same principle as software that is designed to recover deleted files, but it returns to the computer not documents and images, but programs.

    The utility does not guarantee a 100% result, but the chances of returning deleted applications using Undelete Plus increase significantly compared to a system rollback.

    mysettings.ru

    In the first part of this article, we discussed in detail how you can restore a deleted Windows program manually. Today we’ll talk about automating routine processes.

    Few people know that the Windows recovery system in the “seven” has undergone a very serious modernization. If you have Windows 7 installed, then now to recover deleted files there is no need to search for any special programs (like those described in the article “10 free programs for photo recovery”).

    You can now recover deleted files using Windows itself.

    Recover lost or deleted files

    If you cannot find a file on your computer or the file was accidentally changed or deleted, you can restore it from the archive (if you are using a Windows backup program) or try to restore it from a previous version. Previous versions are copies of files and folders that are automatically saved in windows as part of a restore point. Previous versions are sometimes called shadow copies.

    To restore a file from an archive, make sure that the media or disk on which the archive is saved is accessible, and then follow these steps:

    1. Open the "Backup and Restore" section. To do this, click Start, select Control Panel, System and Maintenance, and Backup and Restore.
    2. Click Recover my files and follow the wizard's instructions.

    You can recover deleted files and folders or return a file or folder to its previous state.

    To return a file or folder to its previous state, follow these steps:

    1. Right-click the file or folder and select Restore Previous Version. A list of previous versions of the file or folder appears. The list will contain the files saved in the backup (if you use Windows Backup to back up the files), as well as restore points if both types of components are available.
    2. Before restoring a previous version of a file or folder, select the previous version and click Open to make sure it's the version you want.
    3. To restore a previous version, select it and click Restore.

    How to recover deleted files on Windows 7

    Many Windows OS users sooner or later face the problem of losing important data. This can happen, for example, if a folder is accidentally deleted or files are damaged by a virus. To restore information in such cases, there are both applications built into the operating system and special programs that are freely available on the network.

    Ways to recover lost data in Windows 7

    The following methods are suitable for returning deleted files from a computer running Windows 7:

    • recovery from recycle bin;
    • using a previous version of files;
    • use of special software (DMDE, Recuva, etc.).

    The first two methods are standard and do not require installation of additional software.

    The success of the recovery procedure directly depends on whether, after deleting the files, any data was written to the same disk partition where the required information was previously located. This is due to the fact that when writing (copying), new data can overwrite old fragments, without which resuscitation will simply be impossible.

    Recovering from the Recycle Bin

    This recovery method is the easiest to perform, but it is only relevant if, after deleting the information, you have not yet emptied the trash. This happens quite often, so the first thing you should do is check its contents:

    1. From the Windows desktop, go to the Recycle Bin.
    2. Having found the required file, click on it with the mouse and in the window that appears, click “Restore”. The document will appear in the same place where it was placed before erasing.

    Using this method, you can revive not only one file, but also an entire group by selecting them using the arrow keys on the keyboard and the Ctrl key.

    Working with a previous version of data

    The previous version of files is a program built into the Windows 7 operating system that allows you to restore accidentally changed or deleted data to its previous state. This function is closely related to system restore points and works only on volumes where system protection is activated. File protection is enabled automatically on the system partition. For other volumes it must be activated manually.

    Let's look at the procedure for recovering deleted data in Windows 7 using system protection using the example of the Program Files directory, from which the DVD Maket folder was accidentally erased:

    If files have been erased from the Windows desktop, then to resuscitate them you should restore the “Desktop” folder, which is located in the system partition in the Users -> “User Name” folder.

    When working with the System Protection application, you need to know some points:

    • “Previous versions” are created along with windows restore points;
    • if the file being restored was changed several times during the day at different times, then the “Previous version” will save the change that was relevant at the time the recovery point was recorded;
    • the number and duration of storage of “Previous files” depends on the amount of disk space reserved by system protection.

    Recovering files using DMDE

    DMDE is a software resource with which you can search and restore deleted data on many storage media (HDD, USB flash drives, SD memory cards, etc.) in Windows OS. A significant advantage of this utility is that it does not require installation. You can find both paid and free versions of the program on the Internet. For private use, the second option is quite suitable.

    To recover files using the DMDE program you will need:

    If you use the free version of the program, you will not be able to restore a folder or several documents at once. In this case, you will need to resuscitate one file at a time.

    Data recovery using Recuva

    Recuva is also a free recovery software. It has a minimal number of settings and an intuitive interface, so even a novice user can master it.

    The order of the program will be as follows:

    Not only the programs described above, but also many other effective applications allow you to return deleted files to Windows OS (R-Studio, Handy Recovery, R.saver, etc.). They all function on a similar principle. So, having figured out one utility, you should be able to handle the rest without any problems.

    I deleted the program, how can I restore it? How to recover a deleted program and folder

    This happens to almost everyone who has a computer. We all periodically remove utilities from our devices that we hardly use at all. But it happens that I deleted the program, how can I restore it now? Very necessary. Or she did it by accident. First, you should search the file well. Or in the basket, or in the cloud, or in other places. It is quite possible that he will be found. Ideally, you should make backup copies of all important files, then everything will be perfect.

    Recuva – file recovery program

    There is a special utility to recover deleted files. The program is called Recuva. It is one of many others, paid and free. Is the last option. We begin, that is, we launch it. The “Recuva Wizard” program window will open and we click “Next”. The list of deleted files can be shortened by specifying the desired type. But we select “All files”. Then the location where the file was before it was deleted. For example, if it was in the cart, indicate the “In cart” item. On the last page of the wizard, click “Start”.

    If our file is not found, set “Enable advanced search”. It will take much more time, but the results will be better. Deleted files will be displayed, including our program. Select the one you need and click “Restore”. Choosing a place to restore. But not the partition where the files were located before. The selected data will be returned to one folder. Now let's look at how to restore a deleted program if it is very important.

    Recovering an important program or other valuable information

    When you are restoring programs, under no circumstances should you save all the files onto the same media from which they are restored. Another rule: suddenly your files are very important to you, and they have disappeared from the device’s hard drive. Then it will be better if you turn off the computer, disconnect the disk, so that there is no recording, no resuming on the HDD. In this case, you need to contact a special company that knows how to restore a deleted program.

    But there is only one problem here. There are no people in the regions who would deal only with the necessary issue. Therefore, they most often use the same programs as ordinary “specialists” who do many other things: home help, repairs. That is, everything depends only on you. Especially if you deleted the program. How to restore is up to you. Option one is to find a professional.

    Magic Uneraser – reliable and easy file recovery

    Let’s leave aside serious problems that require professionals to solve; anyway, we won’t do it ourselves. So, we will restore any documents, programs, files, music and photos deleted in some way in just a few operations. All folders and files are resurrected, literally, almost instantly. Magic Uneraser will help you in any case, even if you lost files on an inaccessible drive, formatted memory, deleted a document or emptied the trash. It makes it easy to recover deleted files. The program will launch the existing recovery wizard and begin scanning the disk, looking for deleted and lost data.

    When the scan result is full, we will be able to see many files, including programs like Windows Explorer, which is very convenient. Magic Uneraser has an invention pre-check feature. Thanks to this, we will save a lot of effort and time, we will select for further use only the programs, documents, films, etc. that we need.

    Programs to recover files you have deleted

    The topic of restoration has always been relevant, recently it is even more in demand. Now is the time that the more different material is stored on the hard drive, the more serious the problem will be if it suddenly disappears. The good thing is that at the moment it has become much easier than it was five years ago. First you need to look for how to restore the program without using special utilities. First, using all possible methods, we try to find the remote one. If all else fails, then under no circumstances save or copy anything to this disk. If you absolutely need to install the program in order to recover data, then you need to specify a logical partition or another drive for installation.

    If it happens that you absolutely need to use the program, do not rush in any way. First you need to analyze the situation. After all, it may well be that you can solve the issue using windows TuneUp. When this does not work, start using the Recovery Saver program. Although it is free, it can recover folders and files after deletion, data after formatting, damaged file systems, and also apply basic signatures to all files. It is quite enough to apply the system requirements on a weak computer.

    What to do if programs on Android are deleted

    We will decide how to restore programs on Android. Fortunately, there are special tools that can help you find deleted files: applications, including lost programs, videos, pictures, PDF documents, and so on. But use a backup and be careful, because on Android everything is a little more complicated than on a computer, where there is more protection. But we will solve the following problem: I deleted the program, how to restore it. And I did it on my phone. The most important thing is that I used this program every day. In addition, I completely emptied the trash can. So now it won't be possible to return it easily. All restoration must be done with a computer. For example, using the Tenorshare Android Data Recovery program. We installed this utility and get started.
    Be sure to run as administrator. Then we insert the memory card into the card reader and now connect it to the computer. You need to refresh the window, then you can see the card's memory disk. Now you can select it and click Start to scan. To search for files that have been deleted, select images and thumbnails and click Recover. This way we have to find deleted programs and a lot of other things. There are many other programs: Minitool Power Data Recovery, Wondershare Dr.Fone, 7-Data Android Recovery.

    How to restore Word after uninstallation

    Microsoft Word and Rich Text have been having problems lately. Text documents, as well as templates, stop opening for various reasons, and it turns out that the information in them is inaccessible. I have to restore the program. This can be done effectively thanks to the Recovery Toolbox for Word application. This utility uses several elements, and now we will see what it looks like. First, you need to select the damaged template or document. Windows Explorer is almost always suitable for this case. By clicking on the button, we will need to select available filters in the window that opens in order to select files of the required size (.dot and .dots, .doc and .docs, .rtf).

    All files, once analyzed, are added to a special quick access list. To select them in the future, the user will simply need to click on the icon, move the cursor to the required document in the list that opens, and then click on the left mouse button. When Recovery Toolbox for Word enters the second stage, the program will ask in a dialog box whether it is worth starting scanning. The user must answer in the affirmative, after which the analysis of the specified template or document will be launched. Upon completion of the work, the screen will display information that it was possible to restore. A person should look carefully and check that Recovery Toolbox for Word has successfully completed the task.

    Continuing the recovery of "Word"

    In the future, we save the recovered information to the hard drive. To do this, click on Start recovery. In this case, a menu appears that consists of a couple of items. The first one is Export to MS Word. If we select it, Microsoft Word will launch and a new document will be created from the damaged file. After the export process is completed, the user can perform any actions with this document: save it with the desired name, edit it, etc. The context menu also has a second item – Save as Plane text. If a person chooses this option, they need to provide a name and folder for the file.

    Now the program will create the document itself and copy all the data into it. When the process of saving all the data on the hard drive is completed, the application moves to the finishing stage. A report appears on the screen, which provides data on all processes of reviving information from templates or Microsoft Word products implemented in the current work session. As you can see, our task of how to restore a program is simpler than restoring Word.

    Restoring programs on a laptop

    In principle, deleted programs are restored on a laptop in the same way as on a computer, using special programs. That is, first we try to find programs without outside help. If that doesn’t work, then we use, for example, Hetman Uneraser. First, let's download it. Once launched, it will display a list of physical devices and logical partitions connected to the laptop. All memory cards, hard drives, cameras, USB flash drives will be listed. Well, now we’ll look at how to restore programs on a laptop.

    Click on the device or logical partition with the mouse, and the program will begin searching for deleted files. Then you can look at the files and directories - maybe you will immediately see the program you need. To work with damaged files, the ability to create and subsequently restore information from a virtual image of existing media has been implemented. You just need to have enough space to create it.

    Connecting a previously created image

    To do this, select the “Mount disk” item in the “Tools” menu and specify the path to the next DSK image file. Now the program will add folders of logical partitions to the general tree. You can analyze them and recover files. The previously allocated sections can be found on any device. If you analyze the storage media, all found partitions for lost data recovery will be detected. That is, how to restore a program on a computer is not a difficult question. You need to specify the files and their location on the device. It is recommended to analyze the disk completely and search for all file systems. The program launches quick note of sections by default. After viewing the disk analysis, you can finally run a full analysis of the device. This way more partitions will be found. Those found are added to the statement tree and become available for further scanning.

    Ending Hetman Uneraser

    This program displays the found content for file recovery, which allows you to verify that the necessary information is actually returned, and quickly select and save files. We put some of them in a special folder: we need to check them if we cannot copy them to our files.

    In general, how to restore a program after deletion is still the same task. After all, you can find many deleted files, and if you do not want to waste time restoring them all, then you should determine what the right program is. Then everything will be much faster.

    Conclusions on recovering memory and other files

    We tried to restore various files, and we can draw conclusions on how best to do it. If you start recovery right away, then most likely you will succeed. Well, if you delete everything and then write new files several times, then for most users recovery will be useless. Therefore, the task arises after deleting the program: how to restore it? The answer, quite possibly, will be - not at all. You will have to look for the required file somewhere and install it to replace the deleted one.

    DON'T WORRY, I WILL EXPLAIN EVERYTHING NOW!

    Let’s be clear right away - we’re talking about restoring programs specifically, that is, Windows applications. A lot has been written about file recovery, including on this site (see, for example, the articles I lost everything! Recovering data after formatting or Recovering data from a damaged flash drive). But about restoring Windows applications - with all the settings - they usually write undeservedly little. When talking about restoring an application, people usually think about restoring the previous state of the system. And this is correct - modern applications are “registered” in many places at once, and it can be quite difficult to restore a deleted program with all its settings and preferences. However, with the advent of Windows 7, this became possible even for an ordinary user.

    However, restoring the system to a previous state can be an invaluable service if you accidentally delete an application and then change your mind. The advantage of this method is its complete automation. You simply select the restore point to which you want to roll back the system, and Windows will do the rest for you. The downside is that along with the program you need, you will also have to restore the entire state of the system to a certain date. This does not affect user files, but other settings may well go wrong, “rolling back” back.

    If such a crude approach does not suit you, you can perform a delicate surgical operation to restore exactly what you need.

    But first, let's figure out where applications usually store their information.

    Actually. There are five such places in Windows:

    • Program Files
    • My Documents
    • User\Application Data
    • User\Local Settings\Application Data
    • All Users\Application data

    In addition, information about the program is entered into the Windows registry.

    When you install a program, it copies its files into one or more of the folders listed. When you remove it from your computer, the uninstaller usually deletes these files. However, it should be noted that settings files are not always deleted. Often, the uninstaller leaves files with settings and personal data of the user even after the application is uninstalled. In this case, you just need to install the application again and all settings will return automatically.

    If the uninstaller cleaned the system well, then you can try going through these folders with any of the file recovery programs (I described them in the article Recovering data after formatting) and saving the data for later use. You should remember that it will not be possible to restore a Windows application by simply restoring files - a new installation will still be required, but you can write saved files over the newly installed program - this will restore the program settings in 70-80% of cases.

    Program Files Program settings are not usually stored in this folder. It is designed to store executable files. But just in case, you can restore the folder with the deleted program and copy it to a temporary folder.

    My Documents XP: Documents and Settings\User\My Documents Vista/7: Users\User\Documents The My Documents folder, in theory, should not store any program settings - its task is to store user documents. However, some applications strive to “shove” their settings files there. Just in case, we look to see if there are files of the program you are interested in and save them.

    User\Application Data

    XP: Documents and Settings\User\Application Data Vista/7: Users\User\AppData\Roaming Files from this folder are part of roaming profiles (per-user). Some programs store data here with the expectation that the data will move with the user's profile. Well-written applications usually store information about settings here, so we pay special attention to this folder, restore everything we can and copy it to temporary storage.

    User\Local Settings\Application Data XP: Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings Vista/7: Users\User\AppData\Local This folder stores temporary and large files (temporary, cache, other working “garbage”), They usually avoid storing settings in this folder, but it’s worth checking the folder just in case.

    All Users\Application data XP: Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data Vista/7: ProgramData This folder can store files that are common to all users of the computer, such as a common database, a set of common documents, clipart, etc. . This folder can store data about program settings if the same settings were specified for all users of the computer during installation. But even in this case, personal settings are not stored here.

    What remains is the register. This is the most interesting place; it also stores program settings for each specific user. The registry is stored in the C:\\Documents and Settings\\ folder. (C:\\Users\) The file is called NTUSER. DAT

    Unfortunately, I have to disappoint you here - it is impossible to restore data deleted from the registry (or rather, it is possible, but only from a backup created as part of a “recovery point”).

    The only saving grace is that when uninstalling an application, uninstallers rarely clean out the registry after themselves (this is why the registry of “old” Windows “swells” so much, increasing in size several times).

    So, we went through all the folders, recovered everything we could and copied the recovered files to a temporary folder.

    Now you need to reinstall the program, and then carefully transfer all the recovered files to the folders where they were (you remember their location, right?)

    In 7 cases out of 10, when performing these manipulations, the application settings are restored. I have repeatedly transferred programs from one computer to another in this way (for example, an FTP program - just think how many passwords you need to remember and enter manually - it becomes really scary!)

    Unfortunately, recovery is not always successful - if the data was stored in the registry, then only a general system restore to a certain date can help out.

    Of course, you can “cheat” here too - copy the corresponding branches of the registry, then restore the system again and import the saved branches into the registry, but this already smacks of some kind of sophisticated perversion. Settings are usually not so important that you need to spend so much effort restoring them.

    However, as I already wrote at the beginning of this article, with the advent of Windows 7 everything became much easier.

    But more on this in the second part. Stay tuned for more.
