Philips 737 specifications reviews. Philips Xenium W737 - Specifications. Additional cameras are usually mounted above the device screen and are used mainly for video conversations, gesture recognition, etc.

New smartphone Philips appeared this year. Before this, the company had already released two excellent flagships. can be considered average price category. This model is suitable for people who need a minimum of smartphone use.

In general, Philips focuses on producing “long-livers”. Each phone can compete with popular flagships in terms of battery life. In theory, everything is somewhat different, the fact is that all the devices of this company lack optimization. Despite the excellent battery, an unbalanced system wastes too much energy. We will look at what success the developers have achieved with

Included

The configuration of the smartphone is not particularly generous. In addition to the instructions, there is only Charger, represented by a power supply and a USB cable.

Giant

The phones cannot be confused with other models. These are metal heavyweights that have interesting design. The dimensions of the smartphone turned out to be impressive: its weight is as much as 172 grams. Case thickness is 9.9 millimeters. These dimensions are too large, given that the display diagonal is only 4.3 inches. Few people will like the weight of the model, although some users still happily spoke about its impressive size, comparing the device with a metal bar.

The smartphone is presented in a single color - dark blue. There are no more options, which, perhaps, will appeal only to conservatives. This is a classic “dialer”.

Housing elements

On the front there is a 4.3-inch display. Above it is a speaker of an unusual vertical shape. There are also two sensors: proximity and light. Well, as usual, the front camera. Below the display are three touch buttons phone information about them is not always positive. The fact is that their location has changed, and it is unusual for those who previously used other phone models.

At the top end there is a place for headphones and a lock/power button. On the right side is the volume rocker, which is represented by two separate buttons. On the left side there is a lever that is responsible for energy saving. The bottom end is occupied by the connector for the charger and the main microphone.

The back panel turned out to be slightly smaller than the front of the smartphone, that is, the device came out trapezoidal. The main camera is located at the back, next to it is the flash, and on the other side is the speaker. The middle of the back panel is decorated with a logo. The interesting thing is that the phone is presented as a monopod, but you can still find a small compartment on the back panel. It occupies a third of the lid and, unlike the entire body, is made of plastic.

If you open this “lid”, you will find two slots inside for a SIM card and one for a memory card. By the way, at the same time Philips Xenium W737 automatically turns off.

Use

The device is comfortable. Although there are also dissatisfied ones. The fact is that the metal is quite slippery, the body does not have any roughness. Therefore, it is easy to drop the device. In addition, it seems that since it is made of metal, nothing will happen to it even after a fall.

In practice, things are different. Users who dropped the Philips W737 leave unflattering reviews. The fact is that even if nothing happened to the body, the speakers or flash could fail. Such problems are not an isolated case, so you should be careful when using this gadget.

Display

As stated earlier, Philips smartphone The W737 was equipped with a 4.3-inch screen. The resolution is only 540x960 pixels, but for such a budget phone this is normal. In addition, comparing this smartphone with its previous “brothers”, it is worth noting that it has the highest density - 256 PPI.

The display uses a TFT matrix, but the owners are so delighted with the color reproduction that they point out the similarity with AMOLED. The sensor is sensitive and can respond to five simultaneous touches.

The viewing angle of the screen is tolerable. Color reproduction is good, but at maximum tilt, inversion and slight distortion are noticeable. The screen also loses color and becomes dim. But there are big problems with brightness. It barely helps in the sun maximum level, so you have to cover the screen with your hand to find at least the call button.

"Innards"

The Philips W737 phone was equipped with a new processor. Previous models were released under the leadership of MediaTek. The new product comes with an excellent Qualcomm MSM8625 chipset. The processor has two cores that operate at 1.2 GHz. They didn’t come up with anything new for the graphics chipset; it’s still the same Adreno 203.

In principle, this “filling” is quite enough for daily tasks. The only problem is with the RAM, there is only 768 MB. Internal memory also not much, 1 GB for software, the remaining 2 GB for personal data. Nowadays, of course, this is not enough, so microSD support very useful.

Philips W737 works with Android 4.0.4. operating system without any frills. Apart from Google apps, there is nothing else on the smartphone. This is not to say that the gadget “flies”. You can’t actively work with such budget hardware. Also, the smartphone cannot be overloaded; it is not multitasking. When opening more than 3 applications, the phone lags and twitches a little.

Use

The smartphone has a nice interface. From the lock screen you can directly access the camera menu or applications. The status bar shows standard notifications: battery charge, operation of two SIM cards, time, etc. The “curtain” is greatly simplified. There are only notifications left on it.

You can place widgets and software shortcuts on the main screen. Of the standard add-ons, all of them relate to Android. The menu is divided into three zones. In the first - applications, in the second - widgets, in the third - a software store.

Camera

The Philips Xenium W737 has mediocre camera performance. The main one is 5 megapixels, and the front one is only 0.3 megapixels. Obviously, such indicators will not give good results. In addition, it turned out that all existing manual settings They only change the format and size of the image. Otherwise the photos come out normal. The flash here is not particularly strong, so you can’t count on night shots. Front-camera no, taking selfies will be uncomfortable, the same is true with video calls.

Autonomy

The Philips W737 has average battery performance. Its capacity is 2400 mAh. With continuous calls, it will last for almost 11 hours. Surfing the Internet will take about 9 hours. The manufacturer also stated that continuous video playback can be carried out for 360 minutes, but in reality the smartphone lasted just under 5 hours. Despite the fact that the model is non-gaming, it will still run some entertainment software. Continuous gaming will last about 3 hours.

If we talk about normal daily use, the device can last up to 2 days without recharging. User reviews regarding autonomy turned out to be different. Of course, it all depends on the use of the gadget. But on average, with fairly active use, it lasts for a day.

"The keeper"

Don’t forget that the phone has an option that allows you to keep the charge for as long as possible. It is known that the main “eater” of interest is the Internet, so the function ensures that its operation is optimized, and if it is not needed, it is completely interrupted.

For those people who do not need the Internet, you can simply use the lever on the left side. The energy saving mode is turned on, and the phone “lives” for more than a week without recharging. Of course, such options are now available in most gadgets, but the fact that it can be activated/deactivated without entering the smartphone menu is very convenient.

Working with pictures

The gallery on a smartphone is normal. From here you can manage your photos and videos. But you should be prepared for the fact that the work in this application is a little slow. Sometimes there is some slowdown, although it remains unnoticeable for those who did not have a more powerful smartphone.

If you are a fan of watching movies or TV series, then most likely you will have to download a third-party video player, since the built-in one plays a limited number of formats, which are now increasingly less used.

Music lovers

The phone has a wonderful integration music player. He distributes the music into several groups. This way you can find all tracks from one artist or from one album. The music collection displays the song title, artist, and other information. The album cover is also displayed.

The equalizer is normal. Here, in addition to ready-made modes, you can manually adjust the sound of the music. But it is worth noting, since the model is budget, the external speaker does not have pronounced low frequencies. The sound may not be good for everyone.

Work organization

The smartphone calendar is traditional, from Google. You can set it up for a whole month, or distribute tasks over a week or day. It is possible to configure alerts, set a specific signal and time. For a specific event, you can select the name, year, date, location and repeat.

The watch software is also practically unchanged for Android. Here, as in all other phones, you can set several alarms at once, which could go off at a specified frequency.

The calculator can also be standard, with minimal options, or you can flip the screen, then its functionality will expand. Other calculation methods will become available.

Convenient and what it is standard application on working with documents. It is very convenient and simple. Thanks to it, you can open not only documents in .doc format, but also files from other office programs.

Not everyone will like the browser. However, it is convenient and works reliably. The only thing is that you can still observe braking and freezing.

Results

This model is now three years old. The phone will appeal only to true conservatives, since with the current changes you can buy a smartphone with the same technical characteristics, but with a more attractive design.

Philips Xenium W737 entered the market with a price of 10 thousand rubles. Now for this price many Chinese manufacturers released their gadgets with better cameras.

The main advantage of this model is survival. The body is very strong and large. The phone feels good in the hand, it is heavy, and therefore it is almost impossible to accidentally drop it. He copes with everyday tasks with a bang. If you use it only as a “dialer”, it will last more than a week without recharging.

Subsequently, a less interesting one appeared, and now the Xenium W737 goes on sale. I received the smartphone new processor from among the latest developments from Qualcomm (previously, preference was given to chipsets from MediaTek).

Smartphones from Philips differ from their many competitors in that they are able to work noticeably longer. It seems that all this is achieved enough simple means, take a larger battery. But in fact, as practice shows, this is not the only thing. Normal optimization of the device is also necessary, the banal “battery waste” familiar to owners of Android devices can quickly destroy all the advantage of a capacious battery. Let's see how the Philips Xenium W737 has progressed in this aspect.

Equipment

  • Smartphone

  • Cable

  • power unit

  • USB cable

  • Charger

Design

The new model is interesting because there is a lot of metal. For the most part, smartphone classmates receive cases either made of glossy plastic or matte material, while metal is very rare.

The dimensions of the model are 128x65x9.9 mm and weighs 172 g. For a smartphone with a 4.3-inch screen, this is a lot; the weight is comparable to larger devices, where the display diagonal is close to 6 inches.

This back side using high-quality but heavy material. If we remember its predecessor, the model, it had dimensions of 126.4x67.3x12.3 mm. As you can see, some work has been done on the exterior; the body has stretched out a little, becoming narrower and significantly thinner. The weight generally remains the same, the weight of the previously released device is 169 grams, which is comparable to the new model.

The weight is not for everyone, the smartphone feels like an unusually heavy block, in my opinion, this is an excessive amount, I would like to get a lighter device.

In addition to the metallic finish, the Philips Xenium W737 differs from other phones in its color, it is dark blue. This option turned out to be original, but at the same time discreet, which will appeal to a conservative audience.

Above the screen you will see a speaker, which is made in the form of a vertical rather than a horizontal slot, to the left is the front camera, and there is a light and proximity sensor.

Below you can find three touch control keys.

At the top there is a screen lock button and a 3.5 mm jack.

On the right there are two separate buttons that control the volume.

On the left there is a lever that turns on the energy saving mode.

At the bottom there is a microphone and a microUSB port.

The back part turned out to be less wide compared to the front plane. Therefore, the ends of the smartphone received a characteristic beveled shape. Almost everything here is made of metal, including not only the back of the smartphone, but also the side surfaces of the device.

There is also a plastic insert that covers the compartment for microSD and SIM cards. If you remove this cover, the smartphone turns off automatically. The fastening is not very convenient; it can be difficult to put on the plastic part the first time. However, it is unlikely that anyone will constantly strive to get there, so you can put up with such a drawback.

Screen

The display diagonal is 4.3 inches, resolution 540x960 pixels, which is larger than its predecessor. You should also remember the Xenium W832 model, which received a display with the same resolution, but with a diagonal of 4.5 inches. Therefore, among all three models W732, W832 and W737, it is the latter that comes out the best in image quality. It has the highest dots per inch density of 256 PPI versus 245 PPI for the W832 and the W732. The difference is small and difficult to notice by eye, but for some these numbers may be important.

The manufacturer talks about using a TFT matrix in this smartphone. The capacitive sensor can simultaneously perceive up to 5 touches.

There are no significant differences from the W732 in the picture, except for the increased screen resolution. This will certainly be an advantage of the smartphone. At the same time, viewing angles are still good, colors are reproduced normally, and there are no distortions. In my opinion, it would be more logical on the website to indicate in the characteristics of the matrix not just TFT, but TFT-IPS, which would be an advantage of this model. The examples clearly show that this is IPS, and not a simpler version of TN, which could not show such results.

The display is protected by durable glass, its performance in the sun is poor and it is difficult to maintain the maximum brightness level. On sunny days it is difficult to see the information on the screen.

Platform

Philips W737 became the first product from the company to receive the new processor. Previously, the products differed in the filling from MediaTek, but now a solution from Qualcomm is offered. This dual core processor MSM8625, which operates at 1.2 GHz. It belongs to the Snapdragon S4 processor family and is comparable in capabilities to the similar MSM8225. Adreno 203 graphics have already been repeatedly found in smartphones with this filling. There is 768 MB of RAM, 1 GB of memory for installing applications and 2 GB for other data. The presence of a slot for a memory card allows you to increase the useful volume several times; here you can install microSD up to 64 GB inclusive.

The smartphone runs Android 4.0.4. The operating speed of the model is not the highest; when moving through the menu or switching between applications, it is clear that it lacks responsiveness and smoothness. There are slight delays and twitches.

Interface

From the lock screen you can quickly go to the menu or launch the camera. At the top of the screen there is a service line, which displays the time, battery charge, and an indicator of the signal reception level of both cards. The drop-down list displays a list of notifications.

On desktops there are widgets or application shortcuts that the user can customize independently. In total there are five zones that are at his complete disposal. There are few additional widgets here, most of them are standard elements for Android.

The menu has three categories. This installed software, a section with available widgets and a software store.

Contacts and calls

The general list displays the first and last name, as well as the picture assigned to the subscriber. If you click on it, an additional menu will open with possible actions: call, message, view additional information.

New entry given first name, patronymic, last name, title, place of work, Various types phone numbers, addresses Email, birthday, and there are also additional fields that will help you assign a complete list of data.

The keyboard for dialing numbers is supplemented with Russian letters, and searches for contacts using matching characters. The numbers are ordered by date. The list is simple, all information is displayed in one column. By selecting a subscriber, you can see what calls were made and how many times they were made. The phone book with all its associated functions is separately highlighted.

In the general list, the used SIM card is highlighted by its name, the log suggests dividing calls into different categories depending on the type of call. There is only one radio module in the smartphone, so you won’t be able to talk using different SIM cards at the same time. When you make a call, a menu opens and prompts you to select an operator. If you do nothing, the call will be made from the SIM card that was selected as priority in the card settings menu. Similar actions are performed when sending a message. An individual melody is assigned to each SIM card. incoming call.

Correspondence

When you dial a number, contacts that match the matching numbers are displayed. The keyboard takes up about half of the screen, the rest goes under the message typing menu. There is a set of emoticons, ready-made templates, as well as additional settings such as notifications and delivery, and others. standard features. Supported backup archive messages to the memory card and back.

The keyboard itself is standard, I would replace it with some other one, this option is not the most convenient today.

Attached to the new letter various files from the device memory. The text copy function works, the necessary data is simply highlighted. You can create several accounts for email, and each of them has its own color. Sorting mail by date, subject, sender and size works. Works automatic download emails at a set interval.

Camera

The smartphone has a 5-megapixel camera, which is launched from the menu or on the lock screen. From additional features It is worth noting the presence of a flash, a front camera and autofocus.

Settings:

Geotags, continuous shooting, exposure, timer, sharpness, brightness, contrast.

Photo size: 5M (2560x1920 pixels), 3M (2048x1536 pixels), 2M (1600x1200 pixels), 1.3M (1280x960 pixels), 0.3M (640x480 pixels).

Exposition.

White Balance: Auto, Incandescent, Daylight, Lamp daylight, Mainly cloudy.

Flash.

The video is recorded in 640x480 pixels, 30 frames per second or lower quality. The settings are similar to those of a camera. The photo and video capabilities here are modest; such parameters will currently suit only an undemanding user.

Gallery

The section with pictures and videos works fine, although not very fast. Sometimes you can notice some delay in work, but if you have not had experience communicating with more powerful smartphones, perhaps it will not be noticeable. Data is grouped into categories. Files can be easily shared using various ways transfers. There is a built-in photo editor where you can add effects.

A single video player can produce only a limited number of formats; MPEG4, H.263, H.264 and 3GP are basic for current devices; everything else requires more advanced additional application.

Music

The player divides all music into several groups: recent, artists, albums, tracks, playlists, genres. Information about the album, artist, song title is displayed, and the cover is also displayed. Some virtual keys serve for management.

There is a regular equalizer, where there are ready-made profiles and the ability to set custom settings. In addition, surround sound emulation is enabled. Control is provided when the screen is locked. Sound quality in good headphones average, most buyers will like the smartphone, but you shouldn’t count on the model being a high-quality replacement for a player.

Radio

The FM receiver will find stations manually or automatic mode. A list of favorite frequencies is created, then you can switch between them. Recording from the radio while listening is supported.

Organizer

The calendar in the device is made in a traditional style; the display of information for a whole month, a week or a specific day can be configured. You can set the alert type and tone for recorded events and meetings. The new entry is assigned a name, date, place, repetition (daily, monthly, annually), an alert signal, and a description of the event.

Watch

The smartphone allows you to save several alarms in memory. The repeat can be set either once or every day, only on weekdays or weekly. The signal type varies: melody, vibration, melody and vibration, voice. Clock and weather are shown.

The calculator performs various arithmetic operations.

You can work with documents, view or create new files directly on your smartphone, as well as edit ready-made ones.

Built-in voice recorder.

File browser installed.

Browser

The standard website viewer works stably. At the top is address bar, next to it is an icon, clicking on which adds the page to your bookmarks. The browser supports the function of simultaneous work with several pages involved, allows you to switch between them, refresh the page, view bookmarks and perform some other functions (text search, viewing downloaded files, and others).

GPS navigation

Used for navigation Google Maps, the program requires constant network activity, which affects the amount of traffic consumed by the device. Traffic jams are displayed, there is a function for determining the current location, calculating the route from the start to the end point, and setting the method of travel: by car, on foot or public transport. The route is laid out on the map, with key places as text messages, which are displayed on the screen in the form of a column, you can switch between them: view the route in advance or vice versa, go back and plot another path.

Connections

The smartphone operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900/2100 networks. There is Wi-Fi b/g/n, support for Wi-Fi Direct, the smartphone can work as a modem or access point. There is Bluetooth 3.0 with support for EDR and A2DP. The microUSB 2.0 connector allows you to connect your smartphone to a computer for synchronization and data exchange.

Battery

The battery is non-replaceable, its capacity is 2400 mAh. Claimed to be up to 10.5 hours of talk time, up to 9 hours of Internet use. In continuous video playback mode at maximum brightness, the smartphone worked for 6 hours. If you play, it turns out to be about 3-3.5 hours of work. In normal mode, the smartphone works for about a day and is not much different from its analogues. The most interesting thing here is the energy-saving option. Everything works simply, it turns off Mobile Internet, which acts as the main energy eater. This is done both from the menu and by pressing the lever on the side. In this case, the smartphone works for a very long time. With 10-20 minutes of conversation per day, he sits down by only 5-10%, which in theory allows him to work for about 10-12 days. But as soon as you deactivate this option, energy consumption increases sharply, which, in general, is logical. I can’t say that this method is something out of the ordinary, but except for Philips, no one offers a separate button so that you can quickly turn off unnecessary functions. This will appeal to those who need a smartphone, but do not want to constantly use mobile Internet.

Conclusion

The smartphone has an average earpiece in terms of volume; there is no sound reserve for a noisy environment. The same can be said about the ringtone; in the office you won’t be able to miss a call, but on the street it’s easy to miss it. Vibration due to the weighty body of the smartphone is not felt well.

Philips Xenium W737 will be sold at a recommended retail price of 10,490 rubles. In this smartphone, the manufacturer focused on body materials that really give the feeling of an expensive device. At the same time, we can feel the weight; let me remind you that the model turned out to be excessively heavy. As for the hardware, the smartphone did not show itself as anything special. For this screen resolution you can clearly install more powerful processor and increase the amount of RAM; in addition, the multimedia component leaves much to be desired. We are still deciding on the issue of watching video, but an average quality camera with poor video recording for that kind of money does not look like an interesting offer. In addition, particularly attractive indicators battery life also failed to achieve. There is an option quick shutdown data transfer, however, if desired, a similar function can be used on other smartphones, for example, using a widget, and the energy-saving mode is found in a sufficient number of models. And if you disable this function, the results of autonomous operation will be no different from analogues on the platform. We still get the same day of battery life, which is realistic to get in many devices. Considering the weight of the new product from Philips and the fairly capacious battery in this model, one could expect more outstanding results.
