Today we’ll look at one very unusual question that is often asked by users of Xiaomi smartphones and tablets: what does the “Smart Cover Mode” item, which is located in the settings, mean? The answer is simple.

This is what this item looks like on the screen of a Xiaomi smartphone or tablet:

It's actually quite simple. You may have probably heard about the so-called “smart” cases for mobile devices. They are in a book format, where in order to access the screen, the cover needs to be opened - just like a book. Here is an example of a case:

These smart cases have built-in magnets. In turn, a smartphone or tablet has a special magnetic sensor, which is located under the glass. When you open the smart case, the device's display automatically unlocks, which is very convenient.

So, returning to our item “Smart Cover Mode”, which you can find in devices from Xiaomi, we inform you that this function activates the “smart” case. What does it mean? If you enable this function, then when using a smart case, the desktop will automatically unlock when the case is opened. If the function is deactivated, you will have to unlock the device yourself when opening the case. Actually, that's the whole answer.

The desire to keep your mobile phone for a long time will definitely lead to the decision to enclose it in a reliable and beautiful case. To the delight of users, serial production of cases has been launched that are suitable for each specific brand or for universal use - suitable for almost all gadgets.

Phone cases can vary in color and material, but all should provide accessibility to controls and screens. Therefore, covers with a window are the most popular. On our website you can see various , there are also a lot of interesting things for gadgets Xiaomi. The creators seem to have thought about everything, but a situation may still arise whenThe cover with the window does not work.In this case, first of all, you need to check the screen settings to see if locks.

The principle of operation of a cover with a window

The operating principle of a cover with a window is simple. When they developed phone protection, the creators thought of a function in whichcover book with windowprovides convenient and maximum accessibility to the screen. To do this, a window is left on the front panel, into which thin and transparent plastic is inserted. Thus, the owner of the phone has the opportunity to use, as usual, all the functions - see notifications, answer calls and make calls independently, determine the time and date, control the battery charge level, use the camera and all this without opening the case, thanks to flip cover.

How to set up a screen for a case with a window

Setting up the screen for the case can be seen in the following example:how the S View case for Samsung works.In general, this is a familiar book case, in the upper part of which there is a rectangular window cut out with inserted transparent plastic. Thanks to him, all the necessary information becomes available. This case is applicable to new phone models, but for other, earlier versions, the S View - HatRoid application is used. The difference is that S View uses special magnetic sensors, while S View - HatRoid uses proximity sensors, like all modern smartphones. Therefore, the application is suitable for working with any case.

Use window case applicationnot difficult. When the program is installed and launched, you will see three buttons in the application window. The S View service starts or stops first. The second provides precise adjustment of the position of the panels, on which all the necessary information is concentrated. You need to select a panel and use the arrows to move it. The third button is used to access application settings. You can set the time for receiving information, enable the function of automatically reviving the screen when you open the case and, conversely, fading when closing, and others.

When creating a case for its autumn flagship Xperia Z3, Sony decided to listen to current trends in this area. Among competitors, such solutions have been in use for quite some time and are quite popular. A striking example is Samsung, because they were the first to come up with and make a branded flip case with a “smart” window.

And I must say this idea and what it gives, many users liked and received a response. People began to buy such cases, primarily because of the good protection, since there is no need to glue a film to the screen, which irritates many. And secondly, because of the level of comfort that this very “smart” window provides.

Therefore, Sony in this regard did not invent something “like that” just like that, but used basically the same concept in Smart Window Cover - a side flip with a window covered with transparent plastic. But the Japanese were able to come up with a rather original way of attaching their accessory, but more on that later.

First, let's look at the packaging and appearance of the Sony SCR24 case.

Packaging and appearance

The case comes in a cardboard, thin rectangular box, designed in the general Sony style, approximately the same as seen in all current company products in 2014. In addition to the case itself, the box contained a plastic mold for the Dk48 docking station, made with a wider opening to take into account the increased thickness of the smartphone.

The design of the SCR24, even taking into account the secondary idea, can be safely called stylish and eye-catching. The case looks nice and neat, especially the white version. In addition, the case is available in three other colors: black, mint and some kind of copper shade.

The case is made of a pleasant-to-touch material, the texture and tactile sensations are reminiscent of eco-leather or the back cover of the Galaxy Note 4. If you take a white case, be prepared for the accessory to rub a little around the edges, especially if you carry your device in your pockets .

The location for the smart window is probably chosen correctly, exactly in the middle of the front cover. Made specifically so that the user can easily control the home screen without stretching their fingers.

There are several important elements on the inside of the front of the accessory:

  • Magnet located on top. Necessary for adequate activation of Smart Window mode;
  • NFC tag. Required for correct first activation. When syncing, it takes you to a Google Play page with a special Smart Window Style home screen theme;
  • Rubber gaskets protect the screen from impacts, scratches and rubbing.

The method of attaching the SCR24 to the Xperia Z3 is perhaps the most original thing in the case. No clips, replaceable covers or anything like that. It's just a reusable self-adhesive surface. At first, this was a little confusing, I didn’t expect that the accessory would be attached exactly like that, I was afraid for the durability of the fastening. But after a couple of weeks I became convinced of both the reliability of this decision and its correctness.

The fact is that due to the fact that there are no special fastening elements, only an adhesive surface, the cover turned out to be very thin and light. A phone dressed in SCR24 can easily be stuffed into the front pockets of jeans and you won’t feel any particular difference, as if the Xperia Z3 was without a case at all.

The most important thing to understand is that you will undoubtedly have to get used to this case for the Xperia Z3 and working with the smart window. As elsewhere, it has its own conventions and features that are revealed during operation.

First, you will have to get used to working with the screen in the SCR24 smart window mode, since the sensitivity of the touchscreen through the transparent screen, although not much, drops. This is noticeable, so you have to press/swipe with your finger more firmly and accurately. Then, get used to not opening the flip when making a call, but using the Smart Window Cover home screen.

In addition, if you like to take a lot of photographs, you will also have to get used to folding the front cover down before shooting or get the hang of taking the shots you need through the square window.

I admit, at first it was annoying that some kind of case, even if it was branded and specifically for the Xperia Z3, almost dictated how I should use it, imposing unusual restrictions. But after a short adaptation period I realized all the advantages of SCR24:

  • There is no point in gluing films to the display; the protective glass is practically not scratched;
  • The screen surface becomes much less dirty if you fully use the functionality of the Xperia Smart Window;
  • You can put your phone anywhere, either side, without thinking about the consequences;
  • The usability of the music player is improved due to the increased controls of the smart window interface.

Of the obvious shortcomings, I will only note:

  • The lack of a hole for the LED indicator is an obvious defect; it will definitely be corrected in the next versions for the new Sony flagships.

As for my wishes, I would like the side flip to be completely magnetic and cling to the glass itself, following the example of the original cases for the Apple iPad.

***

A small conclusion - the SCR24 case is an interesting and pleasant addition to the phone, in some ways adding comfort, and in others forcing you to change your established habits.

The product is not without flaws, but with obvious advantages that are difficult not to notice. If you, as an Xperia Z3 user, are looking for a beautiful and functional case for your phone, then the choice towards the branded SCR24 is obvious.

The S View case that Samsung equips its smartphones with reminds us of the good old days when flip phones were equipped with a small additional display on the back of the cover.

If you have never seen S View, then this is an ordinary book-shaped case (or flip), with a rectangular window cut out opposite the top of the smartphone screen, which displays useful information. However, Samsung only equips S View on its latest flagship smartphones, and if you wanted to get the same experience on any other Android device, you can do so using the S View - HatRoid app.

While Samsung uses a special magnetic sensor to work with S View, S View - HatRoid uses the proximity sensor that all modern smartphones and phablets are equipped with. This means that this application can work with any, even the cheapest flip.

Using the application is very simple. After installing and launching the program, you will see the main application window, which contains three buttons.

The top one is designed to start or stop the S View service.

The second is for fine-tuning the location of the panels, which display the current time and date, information about the music track, missed calls and unread messages. Simply select a panel and move it using the arrows.

The third button is for accessing application settings. Here you can select the delay time for the appearance of the S View information window, enable automatic wake-up of the screen when the case is opened, and turn on/off the display of information about the caller.

That's all. There are two versions of the S View - HatRoid application: paid and free. The paid or Pro version also allows you to change the size and color of panel elements (clock, date panel, etc.), as well as disable the S View logo.

So, if you want your inexpensive smartphone or phablet to look no worse than one of the latest flagship Samsung devices, then you can install S View – HatRoid on it, which is available on Google Play at the following links:
