How to clean dust from HP Pavilion dv7 7000 Series laptop

If the laptop overheats during operation and suddenly turns off, this is most likely due to overheating of the cooling system. The reason for this is the accumulation of dust on the radiator. If you do not clean the cooling system in time, this will lead to damage to the motherboard in your laptop. You can fix this problem yourself by repeating all the steps shown in the video below. The information provided in our video instructions makes it possible to clean your laptop from dust yourself at home. The necessary tools for repairs can be purchased at the end of the page.

Reassembly of HP Pavilion dv7 7000 Series

Once disassembly and repair is complete, this video will help you reassemble your laptop to its original condition.

Well, let's start with the fact that I have owned this device for 4 years now, I clean it about once a year, you can say that it is necessary more often, but as my practice shows, once a year is quite enough, unless of course you like to lie with your laptop on a duvet or something where there is a lot of dust.
It takes about 1.5 hours to disassemble, clean and assemble slowly if you are not in a hurry. True, I must say that there is no need to rush in such matters, as they say, hurry is needed when catching fleas
To begin with, we note that for those who have never disassembled such devices and are afraid of messing up, it is better to entrust this matter to someone who knows how to do it, and for those who are full of determination, read the material further.
I’ll note right away that if you often forget something, it’s better during the disassembly process to mark where you unscrewed/removed this or that part (for example, when you unscrew the bolts, write on a piece of paper where you unscrewed them and put the bolts on it), and you yourself won’t get confused and will waste less time .
Well, that’s it, but no, I forgot to mention that for this process you will need a thin Phillips and flathead screwdriver, thermal paste (to suit your taste, I used AlSil 3 for lack of anything else), and a knife, and why I’ll show and tell you further. Well, I think it’s worth reminding that we do everything carefully and leisurely
Well, let's start the mini guide
Photo of the device itself:

As you can see, it's far from clean.
And now we begin the process, first we remove the battery by pulling the highlighted lever to the left, take out the battery and pull the same lever to the right and remove the compartment cover.

Next, remove the RAM by releasing the clamps (shown in blue) and take out the strips themselves. Then we remove the WiFi module by unscrewing the bolts (marked in red) and removing 2 terminals and removing the module itself. We remove the drive by unscrewing the bolt, and you can pry it up and pull it out (shown in yellow). We remove the hard drive (if you have 2 of them, then remove both of them) by unscrewing the bolts and disconnecting the cable (shown in green). We also remove the BIOS battery (marked in purple), I personally don’t remove it, but I advise you because If you don’t notice, you can break the already thin wires.

Our laptop will look like this. Now we will unscrew the top cover, looking ahead, I will say that 3 types of bolts are used here: a long cross bolt (blue color), a short cross bolt (red color), and a generally short one (green color), and we also remove 2 connectors (purple color) . We unscrew all these bolts.

Next, we remove the keyboard, unscrew this bolt (red) and turn it over and pry the keyboard up along the top edge with something thin, you can use the same knife and take it out, just don’t rush to pull it out because... it is connected by a short cable. They simply lifted and disconnected the cable itself. By the way, don’t even try to pull the cable because... you will tear it, first open the lock (this is such a small plate, I will show it to you along the way):

Next, we disconnect the cables shown in blue (by the way, the blue arrow shows the lock itself, the white bar that needs to be lifted on one side and the cable itself can be easily pulled out), and also unscrew the 2 bolts shown in red.

Now carefully pry the lid off with a flat and thin object, I used a knife for this, but it’s worth considering that you can’t push it in there more than half a centimeter, otherwise you risk cutting something with it.

Important: Disassembling your device will void your device warranty. The site is not responsible for your device. If you are not confident in your abilities, contact a certified service center.

Disassembly of the laptop is complete.

The laptop disassembly video consists of 6 parts. This is part one. The rest of the parts can be found at the link on youtube

First of all, unplug the laptop(disconnect the laptop from the power supply and remove the battery). On some laptops, this will require unscrewing 4 screws. For your convenience, place any removed screw on a piece of paper and sign where it was removed. For example (Fig. 1). In the designated segment, arrange the screws in the same order as they are in the laptop. For greater convenience, you can number the groups of screws according to the order in which they were removed. This will simplify the task of assembling the laptop.

Next you need to extract HDD, wifi module and, in some cases, Bluetooth module. On some models, disassembly will not work without removing the strips random access memory. All these manipulations are performed on back cover laptop.

Then you can carefully turn the laptop over.

Open the laptop lid and try extremely carefully use a pick or card to lift the bar covering the speakers (thin plastic frame located above the keyboard It is not available on some models). It should be pryed carefully and evenly along its entire length until it becomes possible to remove it. Sudden movements will lead to cracks in the frame.

On some HP laptop models, the next step is to remove the top of the laptop with the matrix.

Then you need to remove the laptop keyboard. Do this carefully, prying the latches with a pick. Remember that the keyboard is attached to the motherboard with a rather short and thin cable. It needs to be disconnected as soon as you have the opportunity.

Then remove the keyboard tray.

If at any stage you are unable to remove the part, make sure that there are no remaining screws in the way. By acting by force, you can simply break the fastenings.

So, here is a laptop motherboard with many terminals and cables. You can already see the cooling system, but access to it is only available from the back of the motherboard.

Disconnect all connections that prevent the motherboard from being removed and unscrew all screws securing the motherboard.

Remove the empty case and place the motherboard on a work surface with the cooling system facing up.

Next, unscrew the radiator fasteners. General rule removing the radiator - gradual unscrewing the screws crosswise. This uniformly reduces the load on the processor die. Once you remove the radiator, you will see the fan. The fan wings and radiator grille should be blown out with a vacuum cleaner, an enema, or a can of compressed air. The detachable fan can be separated for more high-quality cleaning and lubricate the bushing with oil.

Next, take the time replacing thermal paste. This measure is no less effective in reducing the temperature of the laptop and maintaining its performance at the original level. The old (possibly dried) layer of thermal paste must be removed from the CPU and GPU chips. Pay attention to the chips themselves; it is not necessary to clean the paste from the surrounding surface. Apply a good layer of paste and make sure that when connecting the chip to the heatsink, the entire contacting surface is covered with thermal paste.

The success of the assembly directly depends on your care and accuracy when disassembling the laptop. Perform all actions in reverse order, monitoring the systematic consumption of screws.

If, after assembly, your laptop does not start, make sure that you did not forget to install any element, and that the power button was correctly connected to the motherboard.
