White screen in Skype - what to do? Skype problems: white screen How to remove the white screen in Skype

"When starting Skype, there is no input field for login and password"

Here such hogwash arises as always unexpectedly. Worked, Skype worked, and then bam (!) And empty window at startup. You do not need to enter a login or a password, and even if it was launched on the machine without asking for data, it is still an empty window.

So there is no need to panic. For those who are worried about their contact list or messages on Skype, I can reassure you that they will not be lost (if you don’t try hard).

What is the reason? As it turned out, the stable operation of new Skype versions(since 5.5) depends on Internet Explorer (IE) and Windows Scripting Engine. Signing in to Skype requires JavaScript access and ActiveX execution. On some systems with certain settings IE, these tasks don't work properly, so there are authorization issues in Skype.

What can be done in this situation? I will describe several possible options.
Here's what worked for me personally:

  • Log out of Skype (press right click on Skype in tray > Exit). Make sure the skype.exe process is completely terminated in the Windows Task Manager. If necessary, close the process if it is still active
  • Open C:\Program Files\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\ (if you have a 64 bit system)
  • Find the Skype folder and in it the Phone folder
  • Right click on Skype.exe and select Send to Desktop (create a Skype shortcut on your desktop)
  • Now, right click on the shortcut you just created, go to Properties and select the Shortcut tab
  • The Target field will be "C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" (or (x86) if you have 64 bit Windows)
  • Click in this field. After the quotes on the right side, put a space and write /legacylogin
  • Now the text in the Target field will be "C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /legacylogin
  • Click OK to save your settings. Launch Skype with this shortcut

The /legacylogin switch should launch Skype through the old login window, which does not require IE components.

As for the global fix for the error, here are the options:

1 - The problem is solved by running an earlier version of Skype - from 5.3. and earlier (logical from the above);

2 - Delete Skype, then START -> EXECUTE (enter the command) regsvr32 jscript.dll and click OK. A window will appear where we click again OK. Then again the menu START -> RUN and enter the following command: regsvr32 vbscript.dll and click OK. After that, install Skype.

3 - Re-registration of libraries for Windows 7 64x:

a) Press START .
b) In the search box, enter "command line" .
c) In the list of results, right-click the item « Command line» and select command "Run as administrator «.
d) type the following command and press ENTER.

cd\
cd windows\SysWOW64
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

regsvr32 jscript9.dll

Restart the system.

4 - You can try updating IE to the most latest version by using windows update or uninstall IE and reinstall it. Also, you can try resetting IE to factory settings (default). Or vice versa, roll back, for example, from version 9 to 8.

5 - It may be necessary to combine these methods to achieve the result.

In general, good luck in bringing Skype back to normal.

I recently encountered an unusual problem for me when starting Skype. The computer is running the long-gone and officially unsupported Windows XP operating system. Yes, but a certain percentage of users are still sitting on it! :) When you start Skype, as usual, a window appears for entering a login and password, and then, after entering these data, nothing happens at all. Just a white window with the ability to only return to the previous erkna to retry logging in! The problem turned out to be not so easy to fix, and after Skype still managed to start, I decided to write this article, where I will share ways to solve it.

The first thing that came to my mind when I encountered similar problem- Some temporary problem with the Internet. I rebooted the router, reconnected to the Internet, the problem was not solved. Then I tried the right solution, which saves from most problems (and this applies to all programs) - reinstalling Skype. After reinstalling, to my surprise, Skype did not work.

And what I just didn’t try, I had to try different solutions from the Internet and none of them helped. In the course of long dances with a tambourine, he still won the problem.

The whole point turns out to be that Skype has been updated once again and this update for some reason completely blocked the ability to log in normally to your Skype account. While I was searching possible reasons the appearance of such a problem and ways to solve it, I realized that, as a rule, this happens due to incorrect settings of the standard browser in Windows - Internet Explorer, or because of the Internet connection.

The only thing that helped me in this situation was installing one of the older versions of Skype. The latest version at that time was 7.30, and I found and installed one of the 6 versions (I don’t remember exactly). After installation old version, skype suddenly earned! Well, as soon as I entered Skype, I immediately forbade it to be updated. In principle, everything is clear, a very old operating system (Windows XP) and it already has problems with many programs, some do not start at all, and some work with various jambs.

However, reinstalling Skype to an older version is a last resort and it's best to try other options first.

A similar problem exists in others as well. operating systems Windows released after Windows XP.

Method number 1. Simple reinstallation of Skype

First of all, if you encounter a white window problem when starting Skype, try simply reinstalling Skype. To do this, you must first remove the existing version of Skype from your computer, and then download the most new version and install it.

The correct order is:

    Remove the currently installed version of Skype and restart your computer;

Go to the official website of the Skype program:

Click the download button to download to your computer setup file skype.

Install Skype again from the said file and restart your computer.

After that, try launching Skype and logging into your account. Often, a simple reinstallation can fix issues with Skype.

Method number 2. Reset Internet Explorer browser settings.

Sometimes Skype shows a white window after entering the username and password due to incorrect settings of the standard Internet browser Explorer, because it is from it that it takes some connection settings.

This solution is very simple:

As a result, the settings of the Internet Explorer browser with which Skype is associated will be completely reset. Restart your computer and try to sign in to your skype account again.

Method number 3. Changing shortcut options to launch Skype

Often the problem with launching Skype is associated with some problems in the Internet Explorer browser, which is already indicated by the above described method No. 2. In this browser, for certain reasons, JavaScript may not work or work incorrectly, and without it, further development is impossible. Skype launch. There is an option to try to get around this by adding a special command to the shortcut through which you launch Skype.

So, you need to do the following:

Now try launching Skype.

Method number 4. Installing an older version of Skype

This is exactly the way that helped me deal with the problem on Windows XP. You need to download one of the old versions of Skype, for example, one of the 6th ones and install it instead of the new one that is available now. On the official website of the Skype program, unfortunately, there is no archive of Skype versions, that is, only the latest version can be downloaded from there, but these old versions can be found on other sites on the Internet.

So that you don’t have to surf the Internet in search of an old version of Skype, if you want to try this method of solving the problem and, God forbid, grab a virus from some site, I uploaded several versions of Skype to a cloud drive that you can safely download.

Unfortunately, errors in Skype happen quite often. Moreover, you can meet with problems even at the stage of starting the program. Sometimes a white screen is displayed instead of the authorization form. At the same time, Skype itself does not glitch, but the reboot does not help.

White screen instead of login form

In Skype, the white screen at startup is not associated with the program itself or with computer failures. It is caused by corrupted Internet Explorer configuration data. The fact is that this browser is used to load the authorization form. And if there was some kind of problem with it, then the entrance to account becomes impossible.

In such a situation, there are two easy solutions: deleting temporary Internet Explorer files and returning Explorer settings to initial values. One of these methods will definitely eliminate the white screen at the login stage. But before proceeding with the steps below, you need to close Skype.

Option 1: Deleting temporary Internet Explorer files

First you need to delete all temporary files in Internet Explorer:

Most likely, after that Skype is white the screen will disappear, and an authorization form will appear instead. If it's not, then it will help. full reset Internet Explorer settings.

Option 2: Reset Internet Explorer Options

Need to open again Internet properties explorer. But this time, in the menu, go to the “Advanced” section. The right item is there. Set your personal data cleanup and click Reset. At the end, it is recommended to restart the computer.

Then open Skype and wait for it to load. Instead of a white screen, a form will appear where you need to enter data from your profile. This completes the solution to the problem.

One of the problems that Skype users may encounter is a white screen on startup. Worst of all, the user cannot even try to log into their account. Let's find out what caused this phenomenon, and what are the ways to fix this problem.

Loss of connection when starting the program

One of the reasons why a white screen could appear when starting Skype is that the Internet connection was interrupted while the Skype program was loading. But there can already be a lot of reasons for the break itself: from problems on the provider’s side to modem problems, or short circuits in local networks.

Accordingly, the solution is either to find out the reasons from the provider, or to repair the breakdown on the spot.

IE malfunctions

As you know, Skype uses the Internet Explorer browser as an engine. Namely, the problems of this browser can cause a white window to appear when entering the program. In order to fix this, first of all, you need to try resetting IE.

Close Skype and launch IE. Go to the settings section by clicking on the gear located in the upper right corner of the browser. In the list that appears, select "Internet Options".

In the window that opens, go to the "Advanced" tab. Click on the "Reset" button.

Then, another window opens in which you should check the box next to the "Delete personal settings" item. We do this, and click on the "Reset" button.

After that, you can start Skype and check its performance.

If these steps did not help, close Skype and IE. By pressing the Win + R key combinations on the keyboard, we call the "Run" window.

Enter the following commands in sequence into this window:

  • regsvr32 Ole32.dll
  • regsvr32 Inseng.dll
  • regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
  • regsvr32 Mssip32.dll
  • regsvr32 Urlmon.dll.

After entering each individual command from the presented list, click on the “OK” button.

The fact is that the white screen problem occurs when one of these IE files, for some reason, is not registered in the system Windows registry. This is how registration is done.

But, in this case, you can do it differently - reinstall Internet Explorer.

If none of the above manipulations with the browser gave results, and the screen in Skype is still white, then you can temporarily disable the connection between Skype and Internet Explorer. At the same time, Skype will not be available main page, and some other small functions, but, on the other hand, it will be possible to log into your account without any problems, make calls, and correspond, getting rid of the white screen.

In order to disconnect Skype from IE, remove the Skype shortcut on the desktop. Next, using Explorer, go to C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone, right-click on the Skype.exe file, and select "Create Shortcut".

After creating the shortcut, return to the Desktop, right-click on the shortcut, and select "Properties".

In the "Shortcut" tab of the window that opens, look for the "Object" field. We add to the expression that is already in the field the value "/legacylogin" without quotes. Click on the "OK" button.

Now, when you click on this shortcut, a version of Skype that is not associated with the Internet Explorer browser will be launched.

Reinstall Skype with factory reset

An all-in-one troubleshooting tool for Skype is to reinstall the application with a factory reset. Of course, this does not guarantee a 100% solution to the problem, but, nevertheless, it is a way out for solving the problem with many types of malfunctions, including when a white screen occurs when starting Skype.

First of all, we completely stop Skype by “killing” the process using the Windows Task Manager.

Open the "Run" window. We do this by pressing the Win + R key combination on the keyboard. In the window that opens, enter the command "% APPDATA% \", and click on the button with the inscription "OK".

We are looking for the Skype folder. If it is not critical for the user to save chat correspondence and some other data, then simply delete this folder. Otherwise, we rename it as we wish.

Uninstall Skype in the usual way, through the Windows Uninstall and Change Programs service.

After that, we perform the procedure standard installation Skype.

We start the program. If the launch was successful, and there is no white screen, then close the application again and move the main.db file from the renamed folder to the newly formed Skype directory. Thus, we will return the correspondence. Otherwise, just delete the new Skype folder, and old folder- we return the former name. We continue to look for the cause of the white screen elsewhere.

As you can see, the causes of a white screen in Skype can be completely different. But, if this is not a banal disconnection during connection, then it is highly likely that the root cause of the problem should be sought in the functionality of the Internet Explorer browser.
