Xiaomi Mi Smart Scale. Full review. Review of smart scales Xiaomi Mi Smart Scale Smart scales mi smart

Two smart scales, two Chinese brands - Xiaomi and Koogeek, different functionality and the target audience. Let's find out who needs these scales, are they needed at all and, if so, which ones are better? The answer to all these and many other questions is in this review.

A little about the kit. Essentially, there is nothing to discuss here. Each gadget has its own, very impressively sized box. Each weighs approximately 2.5 kg, so keep this in mind when ordering scales from China. If anything, both devices came to me from here.

Despite the fact that the delivery was carried out by one popular service in our area, the boxes were still wrinkled, as if the Russian Post were doing this.

There is nothing interesting inside the packages, except for short manuals in English or Chinese. By the way, you won’t need them anyway, because setting up both gadgets is intuitive, and the proprietary application has an additional FAQ on this subject.

Design

The design of Xiaomi Mi Scale is very consistent, strict and at the same time stylish. It’s not for nothing that the company is called the “Chinese Apple.” A lot was adopted from the Cupertino team, but it was more of a search for inspiration to create something of our own. The style of these scales fully fits into the concept of all Xiaomi gadgets - stylish minimalism.

The platform has a square shape, with strongly rounded corners, the surface is protected by tempered glass, under which there is nothing - no display, no screen - it just looks like a solid white surface.

On the back there is a cover under which there is a slot for four AA batteries (included) and a toggle switch for switching to different weight units (Chinese jin, pounds and the well-known kilograms).

The scales are supported by four rubberized legs that move in different directions, which provide stability to the scales. The reverse side is made of white plastic, pleasant to the touch.

Actually, that’s all, but what else did you want? It's just scales. Okay, it’s not easy, of course, but still, this is Xiaomi, and their approach to building gadgets is sometimes straightforward.

But the design of the scales from Koogeek is somewhat different, not so restrained and ascetic. The shape is already much more rounded and resembles a square circle, so to speak.

The platform itself is also covered with tempered glass. In the center there is a convex metal circle with a company designation, and along the perimeter the platform is bordered by a plastic rim in the color of the metal.

If the Xiaomi surface is completely white and you can’t see the screen, then it’s easy to do here. It is about a tone or two lighter than the main surface, so it is quite clear that this is an electronic scale.

The reverse side is not just similar, it is almost identical: white plastic, a lid for batteries, slightly less movable legs and information about the manufacturer. There shouldn't be anything special here, so let's move on.

If you ask the question: “Which design did I like best?”, then it’s difficult to give a definite answer. In my opinion, both look very laconic, with the only difference being that Xiaomi is completely minimalistic, while Koogeek still added a little decor - that’s all. In my opinion, both will fit perfectly into any interior, so in this case the design is not a reason to lean towards one of them when making a purchasing decision. The essence of the question is different.

Functionality and user experience

Now the fun begins. Functionality and operating features are the parameter by which it is easiest to evaluate the capabilities of devices.

Koogeek

Where to begin? First you need to download the Koogeek branded application and register in it. The application is available for iOS 8.0 and Android 4.3 and higher versions. Russian is the default language.

Inside the utility, enter your age, height and gender. Next, turn on Bluetooth or Wi-Fi on your phone, step on the scale and learn a lot about yourself.

It is not necessary to hold the phone in your hand at the time of weighing - synchronization will occur even if it is in another room. After weighing, you can look at all the information in the “Graph” section (in the application, that is), where all the weighings performed will be shown, and in the future you will see your progress. Click on the last weighing - the graph is shown and below we click on the highlighted data and voila - the whole truth about you!

Namely:

  • BMI - body mass index, that is
  • percentage of fat mass
  • muscle percentage
  • percentage of moisture content
  • bone mass percentage
  • internal (visceral fat)
  • BMR (basal metabolic rate)

Moreover, the scales not only measure, but also show on the scale in the application under each parameter whether the value is within the normal range or not.

Let's say BMI estimates the appropriateness of a person's height and weight by dividing weight in kg by height in meters squared.

If the resulting figure is between 20 and 25, then on the scale it is in the green zone; if it is less or more, then it indicates underweight or excess weight and will already be in the red zone. And then, using the same principle, look at the percentage of body fat, muscles, fluid in the body, bone weight and visceral fat index. And the last number you will see is your basic metabolic rate (basal metabolism), that is, the number of calories that you will burn just lying in bed without moving all day.

Afterwards the remaining parameters are measured

In the settings, you can select a language, including Russian, units for measuring height and weight; in addition to the usual kilograms, you can use st lb - stones (British weight measurement system) and lb - pounds, and height in centimeters and feet.

And then you can add up to 16 users, family members, neighbors and friends, there is absolutely no need to switch between users each time - the scale will recognize you automatically. If suddenly the device does not recognize the user, then all data can be linked to a specific user later in the application.

In addition, you can find out your child's weight. First, you weigh yourself, and then weigh yourself with a child in your arms - Koogeek Smart Health Scale will show all the data automatically.

How do they do it? And everything ingenious, as they say, is simple. When you stand on the scales with your bare (!) feet, a completely imperceptible current charge is passed through your feet, which, passing through muscles, bones and fat, produces different resistance, and this is how it distinguishes them, after which it provides all the data. This method is called BIA - bio analysis electrical resistance.

The photo below clearly shows how to weigh yourself. Thanks to my husband for his legs.

Xiaomi Mi Scale

We start communicating with scales in the same way: download the proprietary Mi Fit application and register in it. Relevant for Android 4.4 and iOS 7 and higher versions. I’ll say right away that the functionality here is noticeably poorer, because you won’t be able to find out the mass of bones, muscles, etc. - only weight and BMI (body mass index).

Of course, there is an interesting bonus that still makes them smart. I'm talking about synchronization through the application not only of scales, but also of the branded one. This way you set your target weight, number of steps per day, and sleep time and can keep track of your schedule. Up to 800 weighings are stored in the application memory!

Xiaomi Mi Scale also supports the function of weighing with a child. Click on “weigh yourself with a child” and then everything follows the instructions - at the beginning you weigh yourself alone, and then with the child in your arms - that’s all.

The device makes measurements using a G-shaped strain gauge made of manganese steel and through the use of three measuring algorithms, the error of which is 100 grams, but in fact 200-300. All measurements can be displayed in three units - Chinese jin, pounds and kilograms - on the back there is a corresponding toggle switch, by moving which you can select the desired unit of measurement. By the way, the firmware of the scales is updated automatically.

Apparently Xiaomi is trying to create its own ecosystem of devices. And Mi Scale is only a small part digital world from this manufacturer. It is clear that for this you need to have more than one or even two branded gadgets. For example, with (they also work with the Mi Fit application), information about your own activity increases significantly, but for this you need to purchase several gadgets.

Koogeek have a different goal - to create a device that will provide the user with maximum capabilities out of the box. You don’t need to buy anything in addition, or adjust your life to the nuances of any ecosystem. This is also quite an interesting approach.

Specifications

Since both devices are not just scales, but real gadgets, it makes sense to compare their specifications.

The comparison clearly shows how advanced Koogeek is. Firstly, the functionality is many times greater - measuring not only weight and BMI, like Xiaomi, but also the percentage of fat, bone tissue, water and other things. And secondly, the ability to synchronize via Wi-Fi. In terms of hardware, Koogeek has an obvious advantage.

Why shouldn't you limit yourself to measuring weight?

A similar analysis with determination of basic metabolism, BMI, amount of fluid in the body, lymph, and so on in Moscow in specialized clinics costs an average of 1,000-1,500 rubles. In one visit, of course. These clinics also use the BIA method - bioelectrical resistance or bioimpedance. Its essence is to measure impedance in different parts of the body, that is, electrical resistance. Of course, in these institutions you can get a more accurate and qualified analysis, but scales are still suitable for home use by athletes and health professionals.

Let's compare the cost of scales with similar functionality:

  • Beurer BF100 — 7,700 rubles
  • Tanita BC-583 — 8,300 rubles

There are a lot of offers of scales from Tanita, since they supply equipment for the same clinics, and its cost can reach up to 200,000 rubles. Of course, if the scales cost 2,000 - 3,000 rubles, but the only functionality is fat percentage and BMI, which is noticeably lower than Koogeek.

Conclusion

For athletes or people who are seriously thinking about their own health and physical fitness, Koogeek is probably much more suitable. With their help, you can monitor not just changes in weight, which is not as important as, for example, the composition of this weight: fat content, fluid in the body and metabolic rate.

Xiaomi scales are for people who won’t bother with the percentage of fat, bones, liquid and other things, but just want to know their weight from time to time. But! Any scale for 500 rubles from the store can do the same. What is their meaning then?..

Buy Koogeek Smart Health Scale available for $69.99 or approximately 4,500 rubles. Mi Smart Scale can be purchased cheaper - about $20. The difference is significant, but in terms of technical capabilities and functionality, Koogeek scales are two heads higher than their Chinese rival. They can replace a visit to a sports medicine clinic, and you won’t have to go to it every day.

Is available for sale Price: $20 and $69.99

I recently purchased it, the quality is excellent like all Xiaomi products, they work perfectly and, conveniently, there is a schedule on the phone. Thanks for low price and fast delivery. Good luck to you.

I really liked the scales. Weigh accurately, without errors. Batteries included. Very nice design. Even if you have a crooked floor, the scales work without problems, because... Each leg has its own weight sensor. We weigh ourselves as a family. Syncs with your phone using the Mi Fit app.

Catherine:

The description does not indicate its functions, what exactly do they measure besides weight?

Reply from the forum: Hello. Measure exact weight...

Automatic recognition of each family member
Based on data on a person’s body weight, Mi Smart Scale can automatically identify each family member and independently calculate an adult or child.

I bought the scales at pick-up, everything works, the data is dumped into the Mi Fit app, the scales make me happy, but the weight is not very good - I need to work on myself)))

Libra is great. The wife is happy. Everything stated works

Not a bad scale, I think it’s better than regular ones, the cost of which is not much lower

Catherine:

I liked the scales, very stylish, the digital display lights up. There are no batteries included - keep in mind when buying, you need 4 AA batteries.

Personally, I'm quite pleased. Excellent and I recommend it to everyone.

Andrew Vladimirovich:

They are working. They highlight the weight in the dark, which is good. The bad thing is that the accuracy is only 100 grams, like all similar scales. It would be nice to have 10 grams, like in medical ones. Bluetooth really helps control weight, since I’m usually too lazy to write it down.

Every girl dreamed of combining two extremes at least once: eating sweets and other favorite harmful things for her figure and keeping herself in shape. Mi body composition scale smart scales are a modern alternative to grandma’s scales. We'll look at what this device is in this review.

I would like to start the review with the fact that at the beginning of its activities, the company specialized in the production of smartphones and components for them. Today, developers have stepped far forward, providing smart watch, bracelets, all kinds of cables, tablets and much more.

Most recently, the Xiaomi company celebrated its anniversary in the IT market. On this occasion, a festive conference was organized, where the developer presented five new devices aimed at different industries. Two of them work in tandem: the smart bracelet “,” and the equally smart “Mi Body” scale, which will be discussed later.

Description

Overview of the main characteristics of the Xiaomi mi smart scale:

  • Minimum weighing range – 5 kg, maximum limit 150-170 kg
  • Weight of scales – 1.9kg
  • Smart scales Xiaomi mi smart scale are made of white plastic and tempered glass
  • Compatible with Android version 4.3 and higher, and IOS version no lower than 7

Equipment

After brief description characteristics, let's review what is in the box along with the smart scales.

The box itself looks quite simple. On it you can only see the logo and nothing more. Along with the device, there are four batteries and instructions in Chinese.

Appearance

White scales look stylish and simple. Manufacturers are distinguished by minimalism, and this device is no exception. There are no protruding parts, pretentious gold inscriptions, only in the center you can see the neat “Mi” logo. Top panel made of tempered glass. Other elements made of impact-resistant plastic. The sensors are made of steel. The screen is located above the logo and is not visible when the device is turned off. The case itself is made of high quality plastic.

The legs of the scales are “shod” in a rubber coating, so they do not slip. The battery of the device is designed for 4 batteries. The developers claim that their work will last for a whole year. There are no buttons on the scales, with reverse side There is a slot for inserting batteries. The dimensions do not allow us to call them bulky or heavy. There is nothing to complain about.

Under the cover there is a switch for units of measurement. Xiaomi scales have:

  • European pounds
  • Chinese jini, which are equal to approximately 500g
  • Kilograms familiar to Russian users

Glass deserves special attention. Its thickness is several mm, which is quite decent. On their page, the developers have allocated a separate paragraph for it. Data is displayed using white LEDs. Under the sensors you can see a light-sensitive sensor. The brightness of the display is adjusted in auto mode and depends on the amount of light in the room. Please note that the weight limit does not allow the use of smart scales for those whose weight is more than 150kg.

Control measurements on floors made of different materials (parquet, linoleum and tiles) showed errors on 01 and 02, in one direction and the other. These are quite acceptable results, including for classical scales.

How to connect mi smart scale

To connect the Chinese Xiaomi mi smart scale, you need to install the “Mi Fit” application; it will also be required if you purchased the “Mi Band” bracelet. There are no buttons on the device; to turn them on, you need to stand on a smart scale. They will determine the parameters and offer to create new entry. The scale and smartphone don't have to be kept close to each other all the time. The data is saved automatically and will be transferred to the smartphone as soon as the latter is within a radius of 10 meters. To synchronize with your smartphone, you need to launch the application, turn on Bluetooth and step on the scale.

During weighing, you need to ensure that the surface is as smooth as possible. When there is an elevation, the indicators “lie” by about one and a half kilograms. Weighing yourself daily will help you plan your diet. Since the screen is backlit, you can weigh yourself even at night.

Family scales

How can one gadget be a family gadget? It turns out to be quite simple. Device in automatic mode determines which family member stepped on the scale, saving the history of each individual. When the measurement results are not suitable set parameters, the application promptly prompts you to register a new user and enter the following information:

  • Number of complete years

Using the data obtained, smart scales will be able to calculate your body mass index. All measurements are saved in history and collected in a single graph. A list is displayed below. When you click on a specific measurement, a specific point in the resulting graph is activated.

Important: with a slight difference in weight, about 2 kg, this will not be enough for the scale to recognize two different people. If the weight increases by more than 3.5kg, the scale will ask which user is weighing. If the weight of two people is close in value, you will have to enter the weighing results manually. This is not very convenient. It is much easier to link the scales to two smartphones.

The application has several more tabs that relate to the smart bracelet.

Nothing but measuring mass Xiaomi Smart Body Scale can't do it. Maybe in the near future, developers will surprise lovers of proper nutrition with new opportunities through the installed software, For example:

  1. Diet planning;
  2. Application display useful combinations products;
  3. Calorie counting;
  4. Conclusion useful recommendations and other.

Xiaomi Mi smart scale helps you approach the issue of weight gain or loss wisely, wisely and without much hassle. The device is designed to closely monitor users' weight and sync stored information within the Mi Fit app. Mi Scale scales were ordered from Aliexpress, reached Moscow in 10 days, delivered courier service SPSR.

Delivery contents

The scales are packaged in a regular square box made of durable cardboard. Design, appearance and design completely coincide with the packaging of other Xiaomi brand gadgets and resemble Apple equipment. There are no unnecessary elements on the case: fancy inserts, bright branded inscriptions, protruding parts and other things. On the front edge, only a neatly designed silver Mi logo is visible, which indicates that the scale is a Xiaomi product.
The white scales inside the cardboard box look simple and beautiful. The top glossy surface is covered with tempered glass, which makes the scale heavier; the device weighs about 2 kg. The lower part, like the entire body of the device, is made of matte white plastic of the highest quality.

The display is located in the upper area from the logo; in the inactive state it is not visible. The entire structure rests on 4 movable “legs”.

Included are instructions in Chinese and a set of four AA batteries. The batteries are located separately. This is done so that the batteries do not fail prematurely.

Smart scales Xiaomi Mi smart scale work with Android devices(versions 4.0 and higher), suitable for iPhone, from 4s models to new modifications, with iOS 7 and higher.

Instructions for use

Using the Mi Fit application, you can perform various actions with the scales. Above the battery compartment there is a toggle switch with three positions responsible for weight measures. Using this toggle switch, you can change the weight units:

Right position - kilograms
central - pounds
left - tsing

Don't forget to put the toggle switch in the far right position.

To use the scales, you must place the batteries in a compartment specially designed for this purpose. After this, the gadget turns on automatically, displaying the “Hello” greeting with animation.

In principle, smart scales are in working order and ready for measurements. You need to place them on level ground, stand exactly in the middle and stand for a few seconds. Under the glass there are 161 white LEDs. Xiaomi Scale will show the measured weight on the display located slightly above the Mi logo.

Since the weight on the display is displayed using an LED indicator with white LEDs, you can weigh yourself even at night, hiding from your relatives - you stand on the device and see your weight in complete darkness. You can also see the data on the display of your smartphone or tablet.

Accuracy of measurements

Measurements are recorded starting from 5 kg, the maximum permissible weight of the person being measured is 150 kg. As indicated in the description of the Mi Smart Scale, the device accurately determines mass and gives the smallest error in subsequent measurements:

  • with a weight of up to 50 kg, the deviation is up to 100 grams, with a weight of 50 to 150 kg - up to 200 grams. In reality, the error during repeated weighings ranges from 200 to 300 grams. Experiments with weighing were carried out on different objects, and the readings were compared
    with classic electronic scales;
  • With a mass of 50-120 kg, the stated deviation is up to 80 grams.

Synchronization and Mi Fit

The scales can be synchronized at a distance of up to 10 meters, they even work through a brick wall.

Mi Fit application for working with the gadget

Smart scales are synchronized with the Mi Fit application, which is available in App Store or Google Play. Insert the batteries and download the Mi Fit app for your smartphone. For iOS owners, some difficulties may arise, but for Android users It is recommended to download from Google Play not the Chinese-English application, but a special version in Russian.

For initial synchronization with the scale, the smartphone will ask you to enter your age, height and, surprisingly, weight! The connection process is quite simple, just launch the application by turning on Bluetooth (version 4.0 and higher) on your smartphone and step on the scale. The program will find the device and, if necessary, update the firmware.

After the synchronization process between the scales and the application is completed, the data will instantly appear on the smartphone. You can see not only your weight, but also deviations between different weighings, a chart of weight changes and the BMI (Body Mass Index) value. After the next weighing, the information is updated and the program provides a detailed report in the form of a visual graph.

IN Mi Fit program you can add different profiles of other relatives or friends. When you initially weigh another person, the result will be automatically recorded and linked to a specific profile based on weight and BMI value. You can easily switch between profiles and view all weighing information.

Based on the entered age and height values, the application can determine the required weight norm. In your profile settings, you can set the required body weight that you need to achieve your goal. At each subsequent weighing, it will be shown how much you need to lose or gain before set value. Mi Fit firmware and scales support many profiles used from the same or different smartphones. This makes it possible to monitor statistics from your profile.

Conclusion

Smart Xiaomi Mi scales perfectly cope with the requirements. The design of the gadget is quite nice; it turns out to be an interesting, smart and convenient floor scale. The Mi Fit application shows basic information about weight and allows you to store these statistics, as well as information about the BMI of relatives and friends.

Xiaomi mi smart can serve as a functional and useful gift, giving you the opportunity to control your health through weight, and not only in this moment, but also with a history of changes. This is very important information, because health is one of the global life factors and it is extremely important to monitor it!

Talking about numerous smart bracelets and sports watches, which really help to monitor your physical condition, at some point I thought, what other gadgets can help in this difficult task? The first thing that came to mind was scales. More precisely, Xiaomi smart scales, which have become an excellent addition to the Mi Band 2 bracelet.

I purchased my first Xiaomi Mi Smart Scale a year ago and have never regretted the purchase. First of all, they are very beautiful. Secondly, they allow you to individually measure weight and save the results for each family member (up to 16 people in total). And thirdly, unlike conventional electronic scales, which show your current weight, smart scales allow you to track the dynamics of weight changes over a certain period, displaying a graph of changes in the Mi Fit application. For me, this graph became a much stronger incentive for a more active lifestyle than the data on steps taken and calories burned, heart rate and quality of sleep received from a smart bracelet. But this does not mean that smart scales will replace the bracelet. Rather, they complement each other very well.

In general, I am quite satisfied with the capabilities of the Xiaomi Mi Smart Scale, but I recently ordered the second version of these scales, which not only measure weight, but also collect nine more parameters, including body mass index and bioimpedance analysis. I won't explain why this is needed. A little later you will understand everything yourself, but for now let’s take a closer look at the scales themselves.

At first glance, the new scales are very similar to the first version of the scales, although they have their own characteristics. They are also made of white matte plastic and have a size of 30x30 cm. However, in the second version, the developers abandoned the use of glass on the top surface. As a result, the scales turned out to be very thin - less than 15 mm. In my opinion, such a laconic design makes these scales universal for any interior. You can install them in the bedroom, children's room and even in the bathroom.

A slightly modified design is not the only thing that distinguishes the second version of the scales. The most noticeable change is the four stainless steel electrodes located at the corners. They are used to obtain additional data.

The changes also affected the hidden display. If the first version used a dot display, here the manufacturer made do with a simpler one seven-segment indicator. It looks, of course, not so cool, but this does not affect the functionality of the scales.

There are no buttons or switches on the body of the scale - all settings are made in the application. The base only has a compartment for four AAA batteries.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the four movable legs. They perform two functions. Firstly, they allow you to compensate for uneven floors, and secondly, they prevent the scales from sliding on any surface. Thanks to them, the scales seem to stick to the floor. When it becomes necessary to move them from place to place, you have to lift them with your hands.

In terms of its characteristics, Xiaomi Mi Smart Scale 2 is very similar to the first version. They measure weights ranging from 5 to 150 kg. You can store up to 800 measurements in memory without synchronizing with a mobile application. Bluetooth 4.0 is used for synchronization. Additional parameters are obtained based on weight values and bioimpedance analysis. These include body mass index, body fat level, visceral fat level, water level, basal metabolic rate, muscle and bone mass, and body type.

To measure weight, it is not necessary to connect the scale to mobile application, but if you want to see the full set of parameters and use the scale for several people, then you need to add the scale to the Mi Fit application.

In the settings of the scales there are only two parameters that interest us. First of all, you need to choose the units of measurement. Available in kilograms and pounds. In addition, here you can set the mode for combining identical results obtained with an interval of less than 1 minute. IN general settings You can set a weight goal. At this point, the process of setting up the scales can be considered complete and you can start using it.

The measurement process takes approximately 10 seconds. The MiFit app allows you to store weight data for up to 16 people. At the same time, the application itself understands who exactly is hanging out at the moment and automatically records data for the corresponding user.

Everything is clear with weight measurement. In addition to the graph of changes in my weight, the developers show a general weight graph for all users and my place among everyone, as well as the height-weight ratio. Beyond measurement own weight, the application can calculate the weight of newborn children when weighed together with their mother.

Now let's look at the results of the bioimpedance test. In order to analyze the results of this test, it is absolutely not necessary to understand what is at stake. In the Mi Fit application, all results are accompanied by clear, Russian-language comments. Thanks to this, even a person who does not have the slightest idea what we are talking about will be able to understand and evaluate his condition and take measures to improve it. Here's a look at my example.

So, is it worth buying these scales or can you get by with the first Xiaomi Mi Smart Scale? The answer to this question depends on how seriously you monitor your health. If you are already using the first version of the scales and do it extremely rarely, then it probably doesn’t make sense to spend money and buy more. If you actively use the first version of scales or are just thinking about buying smart scales, then I strongly recommend paying attention to the second version. It costs about the same money, but allows you to get much more data about your condition, which, in my opinion, will be useful for those who seriously want to take care of their health.
