In this article I will tell you how to make a real book-shaped tablet case from an old bag, cardboard and a couple of scraps.

For the case you will need:

- cardboard
- scissors
- artificial or genuine leather (I took the top of an old bag)
- fabric for lining (it’s better to take thick fabric, not slippery, I use velor)
- glue “Moment”
- Super glue
- hot glue gun
- elastic band, black
- Velcro

I cut out two identical pieces from cardboard.

I covered the cardboard with pieces of fabric, folding the edges of the fabric to the inside.

Then I took a black elastic band and made holders out of it for the corners of the cardboard lining.

I glued both linings to a piece of faux leather cut from an old bag, leaving a distance between them equal to the thickness of the tablet.

After that, I trimmed the cover to the required size and, bending the corners, placed them on glue.

I made a clasp from the fastening part of the handle, gluing Velcro to the edge and placing the strap spine on super glue.

The zippers are secured to the cover, in which many holes have previously been made along the outer edge, using an awl or an electric drill with a thin drill (a step of no more than 3 millimeters). The fasteners are placed so that the sliders meet in the middle of the cover.

Made from fabric and cardboard

Consumables:

dense material (cotton, jeans);
old cardboard box;
thin durable braid;

sewing machine;
ruler;
pins for chopping fabric;
glue gun;
needle and thread in the color of the selected fabric;
flat elastic band no more than 1 centimeter wide;
scrunchy;
spray glue.

2 large blanks are cut out of cardboard, equal to the area of the tablet, and one narrow one, the width of which corresponds to the height of the gadget. The paper base for the cover should be strong enough, but at the same time it should be easily pierced.

Roundings are made at the outer corners of large parts, after which the casing stiffeners are placed on the wrong side of the pre-ironed fabric. If the size of the material allows, then it is folded in half to get 1 large piece of 2 parts.

The cardboards are outlined with a small seam allowance. If you cut out 2 parts, then connect them on 3 sides, leaving the fourth unsewn - for inserting solid blanks.

After completing the stitching, the fabric is turned inside out and ironed. Afterwards, large cardboard blanks treated with an adhesive solution are built into the “pocket”. The narrow part can be removed - its task was only to help make the fabric pattern of the required area.

It is not necessary to sew the opening of the fabric cover. Many needlewomen treat the fabric edges with glue and wrap them inside.

For tying, use a strip of fabric, folded in half and stitched in the middle, and then cut into 2 parts. Instead of ties, you can use Velcro. They are secured to the case, like the elastic corners, with a glue gun. For beauty, rectangles made of the same fabric as the cover are glued on top.

A thin hair tie is used for additional security against the tablet falling out of the case.

All decorative work comes down to covering the inner and outer surfaces of the envelope with fabric. Before securing the fabric, you first need to remove the bubble wrap from the envelope, then put the tablet in the envelope and determine the required depth of the case, then shorten the back wall of the envelope, which will later become the lid of the resulting case. Now you can cover the product with fabric and sew buttons (one on the lid, the other on the body of the envelope) and braid for the buttonhole.

a piece of suede or any material that does not require edge processing (it is better if the material is thin - it is easier to stitch);
pattern paper;
pencil;

sewing machine (if you don’t have one, you can process the seams manually);
threads to match the material.

The pattern of the envelope for the case is simple. After folding the piece, you only need to make 2 lines of connecting seams before stitching. On the unfolded pattern, the seam path is marked with a red dotted line.

In order for the cover of the case to be adjacent to it, it must be equipped with a tie ribbon. On the case it is secured in a slot, the location of which is also indicated on the pattern.

Leather

Consumables:

thick cardboard;
a piece of leather;
foamed polyethylene (no more than 1 millimeter thick);
fabric (it’s better to take non-slip fabric);
scissors;
needle;
glue "Moment";
packaging plastic;
pencil;
chalk or a piece of soap for cutting;
strong thread (preferably reinforced);
threads for stitching shoes;
thread with lurex;
flat elastic band 10 millimeters wide - 50 centimeters;
flat elastic band 20 millimeters wide - 25 centimeters;
ruler.

The pattern of a cover for such a tablet is quite simple: cut out 2 parts from thick cardboard, and the dimensions of the cardboard blanks on each side should be 3 millimeters larger than the corresponding parameters of the tablet. The two outer edges of the workpieces should be slightly rounded. Divide one of the parts in height into 2 equal parts. From the one with right angles, cut a strip 5 millimeters wide.

Glue three cardboard blanks of different widths onto packaging plastic using Moment glue, this will give them strength. After some time, after the glue has dried, remove the edges of the cardboard from protruding transparent excess plastic.

Glue the frame parts onto the wrong side of the ironed fabric, placing them with the plastic coating on top and the rounded edges in different directions. At the same time, retreat 2 centimeters from the first part, and 0.5 centimeters from the second (narrow) part. To avoid misalignment of parts, guides should be drawn on the fabric, using the sides of the first cardboard blank as a guide. After completing the manipulations, place the fabric, with the blanks glued to it, under the press.

After drying, excess fabric must be trimmed, leaving centimeter allowances around the entire perimeter.

Fold the free edges of the fabric and glue them to the inside of the frame, cutting off the excess above the rounded edges.

Place a fabric-cardboard frame on the wrong side of a piece of leather and trace its contours with a pencil. When cutting, move strictly along the intended contour.

To decorate a tablet case, you can make a drawing by using an awl to transfer its contours from a paper sketch to the skin.

Use a needle with lurex thread to embroider using a “back needle” stitch.

So that the tablet can be placed in a horizontal position in the future, the casing should be equipped with a clip with a “tab”. If there is no rough leather, the remains of a piece for the outer covering of the casing will be suitable for this part, but it will have to be strengthened by gluing packaging plastic.

In a rectangle with sides 7.5 by 4 centimeters, you need to make a C-shaped hole 0.5 centimeters wide with nail scissors.

Having strengthened the resulting part with plastic and trimmed off the excess, pierce holes with an awl along the outer and inner perimeter, making sure that the chain of holes passes 2 millimeters from the edge of the clip.

On the back of the folded case, mark a place to attach the clip, taking into account that it should be centered between the top and bottom edges of the case and at a distance of 2.5 centimeters from the outer edge of the case. Having duplicated the chain of holes near the outer perimeter, apply glue to the part along the same line, but on the inside.

Glue the part and use an awl to duplicate the holes, piercing the outer part of the back part of the cover. Then sew on the clip.

Cut out parts from foamed polyethylene that are 0.5 centimeters smaller than the cardboard elements for the cover.

Glue the soft plates onto the frame on the side that will be connected to the leather lining.

To secure the tablet tightly, the case at the edges should be equipped with 4 elastic bands, 1 centimeter wide and 8 centimeters long, with anti-slip leather elements, which must first be sewn to stretchable fasteners.

Having connected the inner and outer parts of the cover with glue, you need to make a series of holes along its perimeter with an awl, retreating 4 millimeters from the outer edge. Then perform the stitching with reinforced thread.

Materials and tools for making a case

To create a case with your own hands you will need very few materials and tools that can be found in almost any home:

Textile. The calculation is carried out in accordance with the dimensions of the tablet, plus 1 cm from each edge. You will also need a small cut for the stand. Please note that the material is applied on both sides. For finishing the outside, a higher quality and more durable fabric is selected; for the inside, a regular plain one will be used.
Thick cardboard (for example, from a box).
Thin cardboard (for example, from a children's art kit).
Scissors.
Moment type glue, as well as a glue stick.
Softener. A padding polyester or laminate underlay is suitable. There may be other options, the main thing is that the material fulfills its function - softens the blow after a possible fall.

Step-by-step instruction

The first stage is to measure the dimensions of the tablet. The obtained values must be transferred to thick cardboard, adding 1 cm from each edge. There are 2 such parts. Additionally cut:

Two strips 1 cm wide and height equal to the height of the tablet. These parts will be placed on the bends.
A strip 4 cm wide and equal to the height of the tablet. It will be used for an overlap that acts as a stand when placing the tablet on the table.
The softener is cut to the size of the cardboard. It is glued with a glue stick (it makes no sense to achieve great strength, the parts will not go anywhere anyway, since they will be inside the fabric).
The resulting parts are laid out on the fabric (with padding polyester facing down) in the correct sequence with a distance of 0.5 cm. 2 cm are measured from the edge of the cardboard, after which the material is cut off. Now the fabric is wrapped and glued along the contour. It is important not to forget to leave a 5 mm gap between the elements.

The next step is to create the inside of the tablet case with your own hands. It is performed in the following sequence:

Three parts are cut out of thin cardboard. Their dimensions correspond to those made of thick cardboard. Only two thin strips are not cut.
The resulting elements should be placed on a piece of fabric that has the same dimensions as the previous one. The gap between the rectangles should be 0.5 cm + the width of the missing narrow strips.
The cardboard is glued to the fabric.
Holes are cut at some distance from the corners. An elastic band is threaded through them, which will hold the tablet inside the case.
On the reverse side, the elastic band is glued to the cardboard with Moment glue. The connection should be strong. Allow some time to dry.
The edges of the fabric are folded and glued along the contour with a glue stick.
While everything is drying, you need to prepare two 2x2 cm squares - they are necessary to hold the elastic that secures the folding cover. For this purpose, it is enough to cut thin cardboard to the required size and stick fabric on it. Since the elements will be located on the outside, it is better to use the material in color.
When the glue has dried, the outer and inner parts can be stitched. Thanks to this, your homemade tablet stand case will be more durable and attractive. It wouldn’t hurt to go over 2x2 cm squares with the machine.
The elastic band that will hold the lid is glued to the outside. Prepared squares are placed on top and stitched by machine or by hand.

The case is almost ready, all that remains is to connect the two parts together. For this:

Double-sided tape is glued to the part with thick cardboard.
The entire joint area is coated with Moment glue.
The inner part is attached. It is necessary to iron the entire surface, paying special attention to the folds - “push” the fabric there.
Leave the cover under the load until the glue dries completely (information about the duration of the process can be found on the packaging).

The accessory is ready, you can start using it directly.

DIY tablet case made from jeans

In a similar way, you can create a protective accessory for your tablet using old and unwanted jeans. The advantage of the material will be its high wear resistance, which is especially important when constantly working with the device.

Manufacturing instructions:

Measure the dimensions of the tablet, add 1 cm to them on each side.
Take a thick cardboard box and transfer the dimensions onto it. Between the two main parts add a strip 0.5 cm wide, which will go on the bend.
Cut the cardboard along the marked lines.
Cut the part that will serve as the lid into three equal parts. This is necessary to be able to form a stand.
Cut out a single piece of jeans that will accommodate all the cardboard elements. Glue them together with Moment glue. If there is a seam on a piece of fabric, then it is better to place it in the place of the future bend.
Fold the edges of the denim material and also glue them.
Cut a second piece of fabric for the backing. You can take jeans or use something more pleasant to the touch, such as fleece. In the first option, you won’t need to add paper or thin cardboard, but in the second option, it’s better to do so, since the fleece is too thin.
On the inside of the backing of the case for a 7-inch tablet, glue the rubber bands necessary to hold it with your own hands.
Glue both parts together using "Moment". To evenly distribute the adhesive mass and carefully connect the parts around the entire perimeter, you can use a cold iron.
Sew joints along the edges, as well as in bends.

The work is completed, you can place the tablet in the case. Having two bends, the lid plays the role of a stand - it is enough to fold it into a triangle to ensure a stable position for the tablet.

If we talk about the process itself, it consists of creating a board for the base, on which the frame is superimposed and attached. The second board is used as a cover.
