By Nokia Lumia 630. A hit business smartphone. Design, dimensions, control elements

Microsoft in its operating system Windows Phone provides users with much less freedom than, for example, Google in Android. If in a “green robot” you can turn everything upside down by installing just one “launcher” from the company’s application store, then you won’t be able to do this with WP. Therefore, each major update - and it is also the first for WP8 - is perceived with special interest and trepidation.

We will talk about all the innovations in the appropriate section, but for now we will concentrate on the first smartphone on which Windows Phone 8.1 is installed. So, Nokia Lumia 630 is a typical inexpensive Windows phone from a famous Finnish company. Its official price is 7,990 rubles for the version with one SIM card and 8,490 for the “dual SIM” version.

⇡ Appearance and ergonomics

If the author of this material is blindfolded and given several smartphones, among which one is from Nokia, it will not be difficult to recognize it by touch. Lumia 630 has the same style as the others modern devices company: the body is made of matte polycarbonate, and among the color options there are bright options traditional for Lumia. In this case it is orange and yellow. For adherents of a discreet style, white and black versions are available.

In terms of ergonomics, there have been some changes minor changes. Perhaps the most noticeable of them is that the three standard hardware keys on the front panel - “Back”, “Menu” and “Search” - have become touch sensitive and moved to the display. The entire front panel of the smartphone is covered with protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which successfully protects the display from scratches and other damage.

Nokia Lumia 630 - front panel

The arrangement of hardware keys and connectors is standard. The power/lock button and volume keys are located on the right side. The only thing worth noting is that the Lumia 630 does not have a camera button - for the first time in the history of WP8 devices. The universal audio jack is located on the top edge, and the micro-USB interface is on the bottom. The left side is empty.

Nokia Lumia 630 - sides

The back panel is matte, due to this the device lies securely in the hand and does not try to slip out of it. The polycarbonate cover leaves a pleasant tactile sensation. The “back” of the device is removable, under it there is a battery with a capacity of 6.8 Wh (1830 mAh, 3.7 V), as well as connectors for microSD and two micro-SIM. There is no possibility of hot-swapping the flash drive - if the battery is installed, it simply cannot be physically removed from the connector.

Nokia Lumia 630 without back cover

Nokia Lumia 630 is very compact. For a person accustomed to five-inch smartphones, a gadget with a 4.5-inch screen diagonal looks somewhat unusual. It is very convenient to use it with one hand. The smartphone weighs 135 grams - not much, your hands do not get tired even after prolonged communication with the device. The case thickness is 9.2 millimeters; Nokia designers, as usual, decided not to chase ultra-thin competitors. And a polycarbonate smartphone cannot be very thin.

Nokia Lumia 630 - rear panel

We have no serious complaints about the build quality, except that when checking the rigidity of the case for twisting and breaking, colored streaks appeared on the screen every now and then. Obviously, the matrix is not very well protected - you should be more careful with your smartphone.

* the version with LTE is called Nokia Lumia 635, does not support a second SIM card and is not yet sold in Russia

Nokia, which is already owned by Microsoft and changed to Microsoft Mobile Oy, presented three smartphones at the Build conference on April 2, 2014 - Lumia 930 (we will get to know it later), Lumia 630 and its LTE version Lumia 635. In this In this review we take a look at the Lumia 630.

Before reading our full review, it’s worth knowing what the Nokia Lumia 630 is. First of all, it’s a budget device, so there will be a lot of compromises. Priced at $200, the Nokia Lumia 630 can be called the Windows Phone 8.1 variant of the Moto G smartphone, which is currently one of the most popular smartphones in the entry-level price segment.

Nokia has retreated a little from its usual design of boxes for its gadgets. Now, instead of the usual small blue box, we have a much larger box in white with huge images of the smartphone on it. What comes with Nokia smartphone Lumia 630?

  • Nokia Lumia 630.
  • Charger with microUSB output.
  • Documentation.

It is worth paying attention to what is included in the kit Charger with a non-removable USB cable, which means that if you do not have a separate USB cable with a microUSB output, you will not be able to connect your smartphone to your computer. This is an extremely strange and sad fact, since even noname manufacturers of Chinese Android smartphones for $40 include the cheapest USB cables in the box. There are no headphones included, which in general directly screams about the extreme budget of the Lumia 630.

Design

Talking about the design of the device, it follows the tradition of all Lumias. The body is made of plastic so that the back panel takes the shape of a kind of bathtub for the entire device. The panel completely wraps around the smartphone, so if you drop it and scratch the case, you just need to replace it back cover and your smartphone will look neat and beautiful again.

The back cover is available in the following colors: yellow, green, white, black and orange. These bright colors look very cool and attract your eye with their richness. Green and yellow designs look the most beautiful. It is also interesting that the buttons are painted in the same color as the entire panel, which gives you a full sense of the color of your smartphone.

A smartphone is not small. It uses a 4.5" screen and we were very pleased to see the well-thought-out ergonomics of the device. The volume keys are located on the left side at the top. A person with average-sized hands will have absolutely no difficulty reaching them. The power key is traditionally located in the center of the left side. Nice that Nokia does not place the device's power key on the top end, because practice shows that such a solution is not always convenient.

Like its predecessor Lumia 620, the speaker of the Lumia 630 is located on the rear panel on the right under a round hole in the panel. Moreover, on the back panel we can see a 5-megapixel camera eye, Nokia logo and nothing else. There is a microUSB port at the bottom, and a 3.5 mm headphone output at the top. Nokia moved a little away from the concept of photographic smartphones with the Lumia 630 and deprived the device of a physical camera key. There are no usual system control keys here either. Since Windows Phone 8.1 is installed here, which allows you to make smartphones without touch buttons, the system controls have moved directly to the screen, which is why the screen resolution has been slightly increased.

Screen

These on-screen buttons do not take up much screen space and to make the user feel comfortable when working with the device, the number of pixels has been slightly increased to 854x480 from the traditional 840x480. The screen diagonal is 4.5", made using IPS LCD technology. The number of pixels per inch is 218. Not the worst indicator, but I would, of course, like a little more. You will feel the low screen resolution when you switch the home screen to display three rows of tiles. Small text will be quite pixelated. It is also worth noting that at high brightness in the dark you will see more illuminated areas at the top of the screen, which again indicates that the device is budget-friendly.

It was a pleasant surprise to see the tempered Gorilla Glass 3, which will ensure your screen is scratch-free for a long time. There is also a ClearBlack polarizing layer, but the absence of AMOLED does not allow achieving the ideal depth of black color, like the nearest smartphone Lumia 820. However, in the sun the screen remains readable, there is enough brightness reserve.

When it comes to brightness, we come up against one of the disadvantages of the device - there is no light sensor. This is not a very critical drawback, but the user will not have the automatic brightness adjustment function. Therefore, you will have to constantly ensure that the level is suitable for you and you will have to adjust it entirely manually. There's no proximity sensor either, but during a call the screen will be locked simply by the screen recognizing your ear, so you won't notice the difference between a smartphone with and without a proximity sensor.

Performance

As mentioned above, the Nokia Lumia 630 runs Windows Phone 8.1 right out of the box. This is the first smartphone that can boast of this. You can get acquainted with all the features of this operating system in our separate Windows review Phone 8.1. We recommend everyone to read it. Let's briefly tell you that now the smartphone has a full-fledged notification center, which, like Android and iOS, extends from top to bottom. There you can also find 4 quick settings. It is now possible to install applications on an SD card, more personalization options, voice assistant Cortana and other features.

Don’t think that if we have a budget device in front of us, the system will freeze and slow down. No way. Microsoft pays a lot of attention Windows performance Phone 8.1 is on budget devices and the Lumia 630 is a prime example of this. The smartphone runs on a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with a frequency of up to 1.2 GHz. Quantity random access memory It's disappointing - only 512MB. It’s very disappointing to see such a large amount of RAM in a 2014 smartphone. Because of this, you will not be able to play heavy games like Modern Combat 4 or GTA: San Andreas. Even Subway Surfers will not work, since the developers do not support budget smartphones on Windows Phone.

Nokia Lumia 830 has 8GB installed internal memory, but you don’t have to worry about it, since there is a slot for cards microSD memory, and Windows Phone 8.1 will allow you to install applications on a removable drive. It's convenient and very cool. If we talk about those games that do not require 1GB of RAM, then everything works fine - Asphalt 8, Minion Rush or Kinectimals Unleashed. You won't have any problems with this. Noticed slowdowns in the notification center if there are a lot of notifications there. But this does not depend on the device. Such glitches are also observed on top-end smartphones, so here the complaints are against the OS developers. Since Windows Phone 8.1 has not yet reached its final state, all noticed bugs and freezes will be fixed in future updates.

Working with two SIM cards

Lumia 630 is the first smartphone not only to run Windows Phone 8.1, but also the first Windows Phone device to support dual SIM cards. You can choose which solution suits you - with one SIM card or two. In the case of the second, the price of the device will be slightly higher. Windows Phone 8.1 has been optimized especially for Dual-SIM smartphones.

For each SIM card, you can assign the color of a separate phone and message tile. If you are not satisfied with this solution, the tiles can be combined into one. In the phone book, for each contact you can set which SIM card the call will be made from by default. Likewise, at any time during correspondence in messages, you can easily change the SIM card from which the message is sent to another using the switch on the top right.

Using smart SIM card management, you can configure your phone so that if one of the SIM cards is out of network coverage, the call will be automatically redirected to the current second SIM card. It is very convenient and you can always stay in touch.

Camera.

Keep in mind that the camera in this smartphone is more for appearance than for quality photos. This is an ordinary 5 megapixel module with autofocus and no flash. Not here either front camera, which is oh so disappointing. But in a pinch, if there is good lighting, you can take a photo for Instagram. Nokia Lumia 630 received a 1/4" sensor, similar in parameters to Nokia Lumia 520.

When shooting continuously, there will be a delay of about two seconds between each shot, which is quite slow. But compared to its Android Moto E counterpart, the Nokia Lumia 630 camera looks much better. When shooting with this smartphone, remember - this budget device is not designed for eye-catching photography.

Here are some photo examples:

For those who do not suffer from excessive photomania or for those who are not familiar with the cameras on the Lumia 720/920/930/1520/1020, daytime shots on the 630 model in good light will seem quite decent. Whether it's night photography. Even the most unbiased user with the biggest budget discounts will notice problems.

It's also unpleasant to see that Nokia still doesn't have an HDR mode in its software. The “backlight” mode doesn’t really help, and the exposure bracketing mode, although it can slightly alleviate the pain of the lack of HDR, is too long and impractical. Nokia hasn't made much progress budget cameras on their smartphones since last year, so the Lumia 630's camera can be considered rather a negative.

Nokia Lumia 630 comes with two photography apps - Nokia Camera and standard application cameras from Microsoft. This can be a little confusing for the user, especially considering the inability to select one from the list of applications (unless you can delete Nokia Camera). Of course, for photography it is better to use Nokia Camera, which offers many options for setting the camera - ISO, exposure, shutter speed, white balance, manual focus, bracketing, but on such a weak camera these parameters will not give much effect.

The Lumia 630 shoots video at 720p, while most smartphones can do 1080p. But we can come to terms with this, given that this is a cheap device. Generally speaking, the Lumia 630 camera is better than similar priced competitors, but it's disappointing to see that Nokia, which pays so much attention to its cameras, hasn't actually done anything new in a year and a half. Well, the lack of a front camera is generally an unforgivable mistake.

Battery

Remove the back cover of the Nokia Lumia 630 and you will see underneath it the battery that powers the smartphone. The battery capacity is not too large - 1800 mAh. Nokia says the smartphone can last 600 hours on a single charge. In reality, it’s a little less, but with moderate use of the device, you can go 100% on one charge for more than two days. There is also an economy mode that limits screen brightness and disables background app updates. We recommend using this mode only in extreme cases.

In talk mode, the Lumia 630 will last about 16 hours on a 2G network and about 11 hours on a 3G network. You can listen to music for more than 58 hours.

Networks.

Lumia 630 can work in 2G/3G networks. There is also a separate variant of this smartphone that supports 4G networks. It's called Lumia 635 and costs a lot more. Lumia 630 supports WiFi, Bluetooh, GPS and NFC (that's good). There is also a special SensorCore sensor, which can measure the number of steps taken and distance in low-power mode.

Bottom line

That's not to say we didn't like the Lumia 630 overall. It just all depends on your needs and tastes. Of course, after the top-end smartphones Lumia 1520 or 925, I don’t really want to pick up the 630 model. But since this budget smartphone for $200 it is worth treating it with understanding, making a discount on the affordable price.

We liked:

Bright design
+ good time battery life
+ Windows Phone 8.1 and Lumia Cyan
+ support for two SIM cards
+ good system performance
+ good processor
+ support for microSD memory cards
+ presence of NFC
+ presence of SensorCore

We didn't like:

Lack of proximity sensor
- lack of light sensor
- small amount of RAM
- poor delivery package
- low screen resolution
- relatively bad camera
- lack of front camera

Nokia Lumia 630 is the first smartphone based on the WindowsPhone 8.1 operating system. The smartphone is available in two versions: with one SIM card and two. Two SIM cards come with the console Dual Sim. Next, we invite you to take a closer look at the phone.

Nokia Lumia 630: design, equipment

This phone model is quite convenient. It weighs 134 grams and its size is 129.5x66.7x9.2 mm. The color range, as always, is varied. The kit comes with an additional cover that can be changed very easily, so if you don’t like the bright color, you can change it to black or white. The phone body is made of plastic.

An SD card can be inserted by opening the case cover; there is also a slot for a SIM card (one or two, depending on the model).

The equipment is quite sparse. In addition to the phone, the box will contain instructions, a replacement panel, a charger, and a battery. Neither a headset nor a USB cable is included in the package.

Nokia Lumia 630: screen

Screen diagonal 4.5 inches, resolution – 854x480, display type – IPS. The matrix is covered with ClearBlack, with Gorilla Glass v3 protective glass installed on top.

About the prints. Pressing the screen firmly can leave stubborn fingerprints, as there is no oleophobic coating on the display.

A significant drawback for many users was that the brightness can only be adjusted automatically at three levels. However, the user can edit it himself in the brightness profile.

A good plus is that strong sunlight will not impair the viewing of information on the smartphone, thanks to ClearBlack technology.

Nokia Lumia 630: camera

The smartphone has only one 5 MP camera (the front one is missing). There is also no flash. In normal lighting, the quality of the photos is quite decent, but if there is not enough light, the quality decreases significantly. The camera has autofocus, f/2.4 aperture, and a focal length of 28 mm. Video quality 720p.

Nokia Lumia 630: operating system

This smartphone model is the first device that runs on Windows Phone 8.1 OS. The changes affected the screensavers on tiles - now the user can put the image that suits him. Also, the notification shade can be customized by the user, it is now possible to continuously enter text, etc.

Nokia Lumia 630: phone stuffing

Inside the phone there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. The 4-core processor operates at a frequency of 1.2 Hz, and the device also has an Adreno 305 video accelerator.

The smartphone has only 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory. If desired, the built-in memory can be increased using microSD.

GPS reception is good, the speed almost does not depend on whether there is internet.

The operating speed is quite decent, but due to the small RAM, some applications may launch slowly (especially third-party applications).

If we talk about the speakers, then the sound should not be set to maximum, it may start to wheeze. And so, at slightly lower levels, it’s quite decent. But the sound in headphones is good.

The smartphone model that has two SIM cards also has its own characteristics. There is only one radio module installed in the phone, which makes it impossible to receive from the second card when working with the first.

But in some conditions this may be good (for example, to separate personal number and worker).

In principle, the phone has good characteristics. High-quality assembly and materials, current version The OS is outweighed by the lack of a front camera and a sensor that automatically adjusts brightness.

If you are not a very picky user, then this smartphone will be suitable for you.

There are many advantages over mid-range smartphones with the Android operating system. The first smartphone with Windows Phone 8.1 sold in Russia was the Nokia Lumia 630.

The Nokia Lumia 630 body is made of polycarbonate. The smartphone is available in several colors: yellow, green, white, orange, black. But at the beginning of sales in Russia, not all will be available, but only white, orange and yellow, but all will come with a black panel. Judging by the large number of colors of the model, we can say that the company is counting on large sales of the Lumia 630.

The general design concept remains the same - the device has beveled corners, the entire front side is covered with solid glass, the phone small sizes and weight, and it fits comfortably in the hand. The quality of materials used in the case compares favorably with Chinese and Korean smartphones.

At the end of the phone there are volume buttons, a camera button and a screen lock button. There is an audio jack at the top of the phone, and a microUSB connector at the bottom.

There are no complaints about the quality of communication with this smartphone, as with all Nokia devices. The speaker is quite loud, so you can hear your interlocutor well, there is a noise reduction function

Performance and Software

The Nokia Lumia 630 has a 4-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with a bus frequency of 1.2 GHz for each core. Adreno 305 is used as a graphics accelerator. There are no complaints about the speed of the device, the system works quickly.

Unfortunately, the smartphone has only 512 MB of RAM, so some games with high system requirements they won't ride it. But there are not very many such games, so this drawback is not so significant. The device has 8 GB of built-in memory, which can be increased by installing a microSD memory card. This model supports dual SIM cards. The phone has all the usual data transfer capabilities: Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and GPS.

Screen

After creating the Lumia 625 smartphone with a 4.7-inch display, Nokia decided to return to the traditional size for mid-range smartphones. The Lumia 630 smartphone uses a 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 854 x 480. Despite the not very a high resolution display, the quality of the image displayed on it is quite high quality. The display has wide viewing angles and its image is clearly visible in bright sunlight. The ClearBlack polarizing layer allows you to make the picture saturated with rich colors. The color rendering can be adjusted to your liking, although the initially installed palette is quite normal and does not really need any adjustments.

Camera

The camera used in the Nokia Lumia 630 is absolutely ordinary with a resolution of 5 MP. But she's not in a bad mood software, which allows you to take pictures with good clarity and color reproduction. To control the camera on your phone, use Nokia apps Camera, which allows you to manual mode configure all shooting parameters. Several photo examples.

Battery

The capacity of the battery installed in the smartphone is 1830 mAh. Under average loads, this is enough for approximately 1-1.5 days of operation without recharging. When playing video in 720 HD format, the phone can work for about five hours.

Conclusion

We can safely say that by releasing this model, Nokia has taken a significant step forward. Because before this the phones were operating Android systems and iOS were very strong competition, but since the Lumia 630 has Windows Phone 8.1 OS installed, this model will definitely find a large number of buyers.

The Nokia Lumia 630 uses a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (MSM8226) processor. It is based on the ARM Cortex A7 architecture, equipped with an integrated Adreno 305 graphics adapter and runs at a clock speed of 1.2 GHz. A similar processor can be found in devices such as ASUS Padfone E and Padfone Mini, Sony Xperia M2, Samsung GALAXY S4 mini and Motorola Moto G. The amount of RAM is 512 megabytes. The smartphone is equipped with an eight-gigabyte flash drive.

All these interesting facts about the insides of the Nokia Lumia 630 mean absolutely nothing. This device is a perfect illustration of the fact that judging smartphones by their hardware is not the smartest thing in the world. Their performance is influenced by too many factors that do not fit well into primitive tables with technical characteristics.

In order not to go far, let's take another smartphone from the same manufacturer: Nokia X. This is the cheapest Nokia device, which can still be compared with the Lumia 630. Its hardware is weaker in all formal respects, but it is impossible to notice this with the naked eye. It doesn't slow down or make the user wait.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the Lumia 630. When switching tasks, this device pauses for a few seconds every now and then. And “several” in this case does not mean “one or two,” but rather “five to ten.” Launching simple system applications can take even longer. It's annoying.

Lithium ion accumulator battery The device, according to the same stupid tables, has a capacity of 1830 mAh. This is another meaningless number, from which it is impossible to understand how long the smartphone will last without recharging. In order to find out, you need to look not at the characteristics, but at this screenshot.
